Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Absolutely. I think the touch screens offer too much in the realm of human error. A simple "oops, I hit the wrong spot" or "it counted my choice wrong because of calibration" makes them poor choices.

Honestly, I feel like the system in our county is pretty good and I can't complain about the process. There were no 'poll watchers', the line had maybe 20 people in it, and it took maybe 10 minutes to vote. Our ballot even had all of the 3rd party candidates on it, which surprised me.

Here we have a paper ballot which you fill in circles (no punching crap out) and it gets scanned into the machine. Easy peasy.
Same here in MN.

Just got back from voting. Super easy. No line. Baby was cool. This was the most bipartisan (thats not right... multi-party?) ballot I have ever cast.

Voted today. Not like it matter for the president seeing how we still rely on the electoral college, a.k.a the most outdated democratic process ever created.

There are actually some really good arguments for it. There was a debate/discussion on NPR about it yesterday and I was very impressed with some of the pro arguments.

Yeah, I hate touch screens. As an interface, we're just not "there" for them being done right, not even on phones and tablets, imo.

Also, when it comes to arguments like the electoral college... well, the less democracy in our democracy, the better, I say.

"That hardly seems fair." "Of course it's not fair, and a damn good thing, too. Give the like of Baldrick the vote, and we'll be back to cavorting druids, death by stoning and dung for dinner."

Oh, I have a question for you guys (and gals who might be reading/playing along). Who was at the top of the Presidential ballot in your area? We had Romney at the top of ours.

The order on mine: Green Party, Libertarian Party, American Independent Party, Republican Party, Peace and Freedom Party, Democratic Party.

You know... I'm not certain. Gary Johnson was 4th, I know that much... but I wanna say Romney was also on the top spot as well... but not sure. As in Rep-Dem-Green-Libertarian

I think mine was similar, but went Rep-Dem-Lib-Green-Justice-Communist/Socialist- Some other I don't remember.

I can't help but wonder how that is determined. Is it county by county, state by state, by municipality? Does the order affect voting at all as one woman I work with (a retired accountant for a county in the Milwaukee area) suggested it does? All interesting questions, I think.

I think mine had some random 3rd party on top, then Obama then Romney, but I seriously forget. There was something like 17 people on the pres ballot here and I think it might have been alphabetical by party, but it looked so random.

"For established minor parties in Colorado, the process to get on the ballot is the same as the major parties, only with a lower threshold. They can either go through their caucus and assembly process, or petition onto the ballot," media specialist Andrew Cole replied.
"For presidential candidates (rather than candidates for other offices), it is much easier to get on the ballot if you are associated with a party that is not officially recognized in Colorado, or not associated with a party at all. All it takes is $500 and the completion of a form (due to a change in law, the fee will go up to $1000 for the next presidential election)."

So according to Laura/Rush/Hannity (which I've heard each of their entire show today) the ONLY reason Obama won the Election, is because -"Romney was right"- and the majority of America are now -"Lazy/Takers/Welfare Abusers"- . That is seriously their reason why the election went the way it did. America is now more than half of it's population lazy welfare babies according to them.

Fantastic.

Hell, I've been saying that for a while.

Where the heck do you work that you can listen to talk radio for 9 hours straight? I work IN radio and I can't do that.

You've been saying what exactly?
That most Americans no longer can stomach the personal responsibility that comes part and parcel with freedom, and would rather be catered to by a pervasive nanny state from cradle to grave, free of any choice harder than what to watch on TV tonight.

You're the very living embodiment that I am right.
I'm the living embodiment of someone who wants the government to cradle him from birth to death because I am for Gay Equality, Women's Equal Pay, Education Budget Increases and Military Budget Decreases?

That's an interesting perspective.

No, because you told me a while back you support Obama mainly because of the good things he assures you and your family, and the other things you've told the board about your domestic situation. I'm guessing you didn't claw your way up from teenage fatherhood by your own bootstraps. It's entirely understandable how you would very quickly grow into a human political parasite.[DOUBLEPOST=1352321127][/DOUBLEPOST]
Funny, that's exactly what Rush/Hannity/Levin think. I see where your real ideas are now.
Sorry, I should correct myself, it has now been verified twice by national election.

And I don't get my ideas from them, they're just behind the curve to where I've been all along, on some fronts.

Yeah, I finally see you're basically GasLimbaugh or would it be GasHannity? You're not remotely third party/independant. You're very clearly Far Far Conservative Repub.

You didn't vote third party. He hates both the dems and reps equally, since they both want to cradle everyone.
If you think it's somebody else's responsibility to see that you are educated, employed, and have medical care while also being called poor but have cable TV on a big screen plasma, an X-Box, air conditioning and two cars, then you're pretty damn cradled.

I think officially Gas has become far more entertaining/funny to me than even Charlie. Well done.

Much how Charlie was once looked to for interesting movie commentary, I would say Gas used to have some interesting political commentary. Now they're both purely entertainment.

That's right! String up the gays and throw poor people on the fire to power the engines of industry! I'm gonna hold a gun to every woman's head until she brings her rape baby to term! Yeee-haw!

Shit, Limbaugh and Hannity WISH they were as conservative as me.

It's like being on the outside and looking in after I had been released from the insane asylum. I know the scene all too well, but things are so much brighter out here in sane land.

You're far from the first poster to try the "you used to be interesting but now boy are you entertaining" line with me. You won't be the last. I don't mold myself to forumite opinion. I'm here for my amusement, not yours.[DOUBLEPOST=1352321646][/DOUBLEPOST]

And yet you keep on coming back in. I think you find "sanity" boring.
