[Movies] Guardians of the Galaxy

That's why I refused to believe it. As much as I'd love to see him in the capes genre, I doubt it'll happen. Not the first time he was rumored for something and turned out to be false.

I'm sure he's just going to play Mal from Firefly in a background scene, which would still be just as cool.

I thought I'd read that somewhere already... Was that this movie, or did he do it in another movie already?
I think we talked about it here quite a bit. I haven't heard it anywhere else. SO IT MUST BE TRUE BECAUSE IT'S ON THE INTERNET!!!! YAY!!!!

I googled around, and apparently they were teasing it on the movie gossip rags back in April.

If they turn Nova into a trilogy, they have a lot of good material.

Nova 1 - Origin story, possibly ending with the New Warriors being formed.

Nova 2 - The Annihilation Wave destroys Nova Corps and Rider leads an intergalactic resistance a la Commander Shepard.

Nova 3 - The War of Kings storyline. Rider reactivates Nova Corps and helps get the galaxy back on its feet.

I think it's interesting that Marvel is risking a lot by making a lot of it's second wave films take place in the greater universe while Fox is doing everything it can to ignore it in the X-Men movies, despite most of the mot interesting X-men stories talking place in space or in the Savage Lands.

I wonder if that had to do with the success of Thor on Marvel's end. They introduced a core character who wasn't human, but more what we'd consider an alien. His movie made it clear for audiences that there are whole other races and worlds in the MU, which supported the core plot of The Avengers. Fox's X-Men movies have been deeply rooted in the mindset of "we're extraordinary people in an ordinary world". Maybe putting them in space or trying to convince people there are dinosaurs still hanging out on Earth takes away too much from that niche?

I think Fox is still shooting themselves in the foot. After Age of Apocalypse, the only other BIG story I can think of that revolves around mutants on Earth is House of M.

I dunno... maybe it's time to start doing New Mutants stuff.

Well, they are planning on X-Force after X-Men: Apocalypse.

New TV spot. Each trailer gets better. If this movie does well it will open the floodgates for Marvel. Who would have ever thought GOTG would be a movie?

That tv ad was very Rocket-heavy. As I've said in the past, I think overemphasizing Rocket is a bad publicity idea - "anthropomorphic raccoon" might cause some people unfamiliar with the source material to dismiss it out of hand. But they've had lots of good, balanced trailers up to this point, so maybe it won't matter now.

This is starting to feel like this generations Star Wars.
Eehhhh I dunno if I'd go that far. Maybe the marvel movie universe as a whole comes close, perhaps (especially when it all came together in avengers), but not GOTG on its own certainly.

As in when Star Wars came out originally, and everyone was so blown away by it that they lined up down the street and waited patiently rain or shine for weeks on end to experience it again with friends and family and strangers and there was popcorn and a cute girl at the ticket counter and ushers that actually enforced the rules and velvet ropes and people sneaking in the back door and everyone gasped when the Death Star blew up and Jawas were just the coolest thing until X-Wings!

I think they are banking hard on him because they want a solid character to base a toyline around. Yes, there will be action figures and vehicles and other stuff... but what they really want is someone they can animate and stick on balloons, t-shirts, party favors, notebooks, etc... and he's basically the only guy who fits that bill in the movie.

I grew up on 80's blockbusters which were fun movies. This feels like one of those movies to me. Doesn't take itself too seriously and looks like it will be enjoyable. I think that people who aren't familiar with the source material (which is about 90% of the theater goers) will trust the Marvel brand and understand what they are getting when they purchase their ticket. Even the less than stellar Marvel movies were still enjoyable.

You know, Chris Pratt always seemed vaguely familiar to me in a way I couldn't quite put my finger on. I finally just went to Wikipedia and found what I was looking for: he played the older jock brother on Everwood.

I'm not even sure he is overweight in that first pic. Looks to me like he's sticking his gut out.
Ehhh maybe he is, but he was always kinda doughy back in the day. He's definitely lost fat and added definition. From Andy Dwyer to Beef Hardslab.
