Guild Wars 2 : Anticipation Station

I'm on Black Gate... did a full hours of WVW... with a new character.... you lvl slower... LOL 9 now...

It's fun but at the same time... incredibly frustrating when PVP sometimes had 30+ people fighting on each side during sieges.

Blizzard where always the best at taking the ideas of others and polishing them into a better game, so i'm not really surprised... what i'm wondering now is what they would have done with WoW if they where left free reign (as i recall ANet was a result of them leaving over WoW during initial development)...
Way back as the release of WoW approached, there was supposed to be a huge focus on open world conflict between Horde and Alliance. So, basically, it sounds like GW2 is what they originally invisioned WoW to be like.

And also, screw you guys for making me want to buy another game right before classes start.

I WILL RESIST!

I did WvW... basically all day, except for a few breaks to eat and poop. SO TIRED. Was fun tho. The ol' guild and I moved to one of the underpopulated new servers and had a ball fighting against overwhelming odds. Also made like 9 levels.

Realm? :D

Right now, Kaineng but that's subject to change. As a realm it's doing very poorly in WvW because it is new as of 2 days ago, and my previous server, Ferguson's Crossing, pretty much owns every single tower, camp and keep. But because of that, there's always a fight for us to find, while most of them have to stand around camping our doors while we sneak off and hit a camp somewhere, then wait for them to show up, and then they show up and we kill them till their numbers overwhelm us.

One thing I am disappointed in though is that there's no "warband" mechanic like Warhammer or WoW. Groups are 5 people max, so if you have to run multiple groups it's difficult to keep track of the other groups as they don't show up differently on the radar and not at all on the sidebar. There's this thing called "squads" which I understand also suck... you have to buy a 100g commander manual to be able to start a squad, and even then it's open-join and still not as good as a warband.

The trading post was up all day yesterday. Hopefully that means we've seen the last of the "DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE" whale or whatever that is. Thank god.[DOUBLEPOST=1346872895][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, a good site for all your crafting needs:

http://www.gw2db.com/

It's run by curse gaming though, so keep those adblockers up.

Whale is back up as of this morning :(

I enjoy the shit out of this game. I made a male Norn warrior, and my axes carve a path of destruction through my foes. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR.

I actually also enjoy PvE in this game, for the most part.. which is astonishing to me as I've hated PVE for the longest time.

Maybe it's because it's still new, and I haven't MMO'd for years.

This game's a lot of fun. Working on a Norn Guardian (Tarnished Coast) and not only am I loving the flow of PvE/exploring/gathering, but the storyline missions are interesting and at times, challenging as hell.

Hmmm...may have to pick this up once the digital sales go back up. Refuse to buy physical disks for my PC on top of my console games.

If you don't want to wait, you can buy the physical disc, activate using the code, and then throw them away. Like most mmo's, the client is always digitally available.

You know, I thought about that one, but there's no way I'm throwing out the disc once I buy it. I still have my disc for Spore, and I ended up hating that game!

That's kind of why I'm starting a "no disc for PC games" policy for myself.[DOUBLEPOST=1347029288][/DOUBLEPOST]Actually, fuck it. I'll finally just get rid of Spore, and then GW2 can have the spot on my shelf.

Damn straight. Fuck Spore.

I love me some Angry Joe, but complaining about the subscription fees in MMOs is very silly. While these games still make a healthy profit, you have to hire a much larger team to maintain/update MMO games than single player ones. The way free to play games get around this is by making you pay real-life money for in-game shit (and Guild Wars 2 is no exception.)

I just wish I could wear the aviators with my armor, instead of having to get all metrosexual with my "town clothes" self.

The pressure on subscription MMOS to deliver a bang-for-buck experience at a steady, rapid pace is considerably larger than for F2P MMOs. There's a reason why the subs-MMO market is littered with failures and turned-F2P MMOs. If you can deliver that level of content and experience and people are happy paying for it, good for you.

Is anyone major even left at this point besides WoW, Rift, and EvE Online (and both WoW and Rift are F2P to 20 now)?

I dunno if you can call them a "major" one anymore, but DAOC is still subscription based. Heck, isn't UO still subscription based? I think they're the oldest surviving MMO, since (google google google) wait, no Meridian 59 is back, and now IT is free to play. heh. Warhammer Online is also subscription, though they have an endless free trial with a low level cap.

UO brings some good memories.
I think it doesn't get all the credit it deserves, even... pretty sure you could say it inadvertently pioneered the contextual action key, with all the people who macroed "Vendor buy the bank some guards" to a single key.

Playing an Elementalist now, ridiculous amounts of fun, swapping between Elemental Affinities mid-fight.
I got an elementalist to 30 - they're great. I mostly go air because they can move fast as hell, and switch to fire when doing keep defenses. Ground-targeted AEs pass through gates, sooooo... it's fryin' time.

Right now I'm trying to get an engineer to 30 because I saw an engineer gets his own personal instant mortar as an elite skill. Along the way, though, grenades are hella boss for keep attacks and defenses, and flamethrowers are the funnest thing ever for PvE.

Sorry haven't been playing much the last few days. ROTK 11 has kept me busy... and to be honest I'm waiting for our server to get better population... getting tired of being 20 vs the bunch.

Some of the others got tired of that too, and moved to borlis pass. One of these days we'll have to freakin' settle on a server.

Cautionary tale folks - the little woman's account was hacked friday night. We couldn't figure out why she kept getting kicked offline, and while I was busy checking drivers, settings, tracerts etc, somebody got into her account, changed the e-mail address (which is the username for their purposes) and stripped all her characters of cash.

She doesn't buy gold or levels, obviously, or run hax, or browse fansites or do any of the other shit they warn you about doing. What she did have was an extremely weak password (a single, real word, no caps no numbers).

Took Arenanet about 6 hours to get to her and get her account back. They took all the cash and items from her inventories and bank. I'm just glad they didn't vendor off the gear she was wearing/wielding for a few extra silver to send off to the orient, so at least she could recover somewhat.

So. Strong, unique passwords, folks. They're not bullshitting out there.

I read once (maybe it was here) that the best way to make a strong password you'll remember is to make it out of two proper nouns that have meaning to you (like child's first name and favorite beer name, or whatever) and add your zip code to the end. Like "OliverDosequis80917" or something to that effect. A lot harder to brute force but still easy to remember.

Yeah.I would get a mail from ArenaNet at least once a day, that someone was trying to login into my account.Usually from China, big surprise there.Changed my password to a quite long number.
