undead archer 2.jpg

You had the misfortune of falling prey to a trap. A seemingly innocent unattended campfire. When you investigated you were set upon by 2 revenant archers, 2 zombie brutes and 5 skeletal minions. The archers used the terrain to their advantage by attacking at long range as the brutes held you in position.

Two crucial events occured, Inara was hit by a powerful attack that dazed her (SE) and she promptly failed her saves for several rounds. This allowed the monsters to switch locations that took them out of Inara's line of site while a group of skeleton engaged her.

The second crucial event occurred as the party was finishing destroying the undead, it was an intense combat with dailies, healing and second winds being used by all, but the advantage was clearly in the PC's favour. Only the archers remained when one of them felled Solaria with a devastating arrow shot. Ralts quickly killed this archer, but the final archer decided to run away. With Solaria dying, and Inara unable to assist her, the other party members opted to give chase to final archer, before eventually returning to help Solaria.

The spreading out wasn't the fault of Inara, but rather the plans of the archers. They controlled the movements of Solaria and Inara then moved the combat to a place that better suited them, you chose to follow and split the party.

Actually, the archers kept moving away from us and dropping that multi-target bomb. Since Inara was dazed and Solaria was low on hit points, we ended up spreading out. If the archers were less mobile it would have been a very different fight. We just don't have (or at least don't utilize) a lot of powers to lock down movement or push our opponents around. This by definition means we have to chase them around. :-/

Or next time, stay hidden behind the wall and make them come to you. When they turn the corner to get a clear shot, pounce!

Beautiful Bloomage!

My private conversation with HC has given me my greatest roleplay challenge ever.

I just want to reiterate, Locian even pointed out that this was going to be a trap. his exact quote was: "Every time we stop to investigate things like this, something tries to kill us. I say we ignore it and keep moving." moral of the story. Locian is now team leader and everyone should start listening to him.
Whoa, wait.

Was I leading this team??

Well look at it this way, you know don't know where you are, where you are going or how to get home. You are constantly harassed by birds, pursued by viscous cats and half your party is likely to be killed on sight by the locals. There are at least two separate forces trying to guide your path, neither of which you trust, you just lost a faithful companion and have allowed a deadly enemy to escape.

On the plus side, it's only another day until you reach Lutal.

You think. ;)

i don't think anyone was before. but i was the one that pointed out this would be a trap. and it turns out i was right. and had this stop been avoided, as par my suggestion, we wouldnt have lost solaria and its no like we would have missed anything, as we realy didnt gain anything from this. thats how locian sees it.

The wall was very little help. Unless we could position ourselves so the wall was between us, but the approach to the campfire was completely open. The archers had the wall. In fact, we began the encounter by moving behind the wall to start, which really just led to us being in the open again. I think the only severe mistake was moving Solaria specifically into a vulnerable position and not moving her away in time (although the killing shot was a doozy...didn't see that coming).

Really, I'm not talking about her specifically, though. As a group, we don't have a lot of powers to let us control the battle. Instead, we just go out and pummel our opponents and that can lead to problems like we saw. There isn't much finesse in the group. I think that is partly because I don't have a feel for the characters that aren't mine. It makes it harder to play them, obviously.

Edit: Also, Bastian is now with Locian. There are few friendly people in this place. Trust nobody.

:)

Man who knew that Solaria would become the innocent lovable female character in a Joss Whedon production, if I am to make a hamfisted metaphor.

Just so I can say it in no uncertain terms, I am hoping for a resurrection. I don't know the costs or if it will even be possible, but HC has presented it to me as an option and I like Solaria enough to not reroll. Also my stint in the afterlife has already granted me some insights.

Damn. This is all NAFTA's doing. :( (Edit: Jeez...I am in a weird mood right now....)

Oh, HC how about a ruling? Can Bastian take an hour or two and transcribe Solaria's rituals?

Well...we burned Solaria with her lute, armor, bow, and arrows. I have her cape and ritual book. Locian has her dagger. Hopefully, if Solaria returns, those things will be replaceable enough.

As a rule it, transcribing rituals is part of mastering them, and it takes 8 hours per ritual to do this.

Fair enough, you saved the important stuff.
You also have a nice evil long bow.

Well shit, missed the game again. Since it's like once a month... I fail to remember, I think a 48 hours PM notice would be recommended. At least for me.

And I don't think HC's Inara character sheet is what I choose for my character. In fact, I don't even have a Wizard character as my character was build as a Essential 4th edition Mage with much more interesting abilities. I think I have my character somewhere on my PC, I should upload it later. Are we like... LVL 2 now?

Can't wait to come back from vacation and start putting all these sexy ideas I've been writing down to continue the Icewind Dale campaign. (I'm seriously jealous that we don't have an RP thread... and I'm totally going to borrow that).

The reprecussions are coming back.
