Maybe you were paired with people who knew how the game worked.I've only played the new brawl 3 or 4 times, but I won every one.
Maybe I'm just too awesome.
...unless one of your current quests states that you actually have to win some brawls. But you don't even have to win to get your pack, so it's pretty irrelevant.
I know your pain.I won my first brawl, despite being paired with an idiot. I played Millhouse, and he proceeded to play all his spells then play Lorewalker Cho. ARGH!
Actually, in the case of assassination, it's better to buff the other player's minions, as Mechazod will cast assassinate against your side of the board before flipping back to your partner's turn.I feel you. I had the win 3 games with priest quest, 15 tavern brawls later I finally had my fourth time getting to play as a priest and the guy didn't really seem to get that it was cooperative until I healed him directly over myself. It was that way for a couple of games where it didn't click until I would buff or heal their minion. It's hard to do that early though because you don't want to waste your mana and valuable buffs on a minion that may get assassinated before it gets the chance to attack.
If Mechazod uses Assasinate, it's always against the highest attack minion, regardless of which side of the board it's on (in case of a tie, I think it's in order of play.)Actually, in the case of assassination, it's better to buff the other player's minions, as Mechazod will cast assassinate against your side of the board before flipping back to your partner's turn.
I've noticed that, though I can't say it's a guarantee, since I've seen him go against that rule exactly once.If Mechazod uses Assasinate, it's always against the highest attack minion, regardless of which side of the board it's on (in case of a tie, I think it's in order of play.)
I wonder what the audio cue will be.Now I have to play Murloc Shaman, this reference is fantastic:
They might be thinking of old Nefarian.I like the brawl.
If the random thing assigns you Nefarian, you win!
...seriously, every time I've drawn Nefarian, the other guy has conceded prior to the end of turn 1, one time before I even got to choose my cards.

I have a control warrior deck right now that doesn't run more than 1 copy of any card... is that overkill? Yes, but fun....IF you can activate him.
