Well it is over, I beat the game.

No one died! I went nuts to make sure everyone was loyal, every upgrade nearly maxed, and made smart choices through the final fights. It was intense though, not knowing if it would be enough. Chose Legion as the Tech, and he did it flawlessly. Garrus was leader of both secondary teams, because he is awesome and deserved it, didn't let me down. Samara the biotic for the swarm room, and got her own little attack at the end too. They all held the line without losing anyone. Also, I made Tali my romance, Ash be damned. Tali just grew on me, and deserved some attention considering she stuck out with me for two games.

Speaking of Tali, I took her to the last fight, alongside Legion. Felt it would be ironic to have a Geth and a Quarian helping me save the universe together. I decided to keep my "strongest" characters holding the line, and felt the two techs were always a bit weaker. I don't regret it at all, because I totally underestimated them. Both had max drones, Tali specializing in exploding drones while Legion specialized in Heavy Drones. I had what equaled four squadmates, and Harbinger like a total idiot would always stand still and target the drones, letting me burst him with my machine gun without even getting hit. It was fun watching myself "save" Tali, and then afterward she saved me when I almost miss the ship. Really struck with me considering the relationship that just happened prior to the Omega4.

Now for the bad news, I was so in the moment I decided to just agree with the Illusive Man and save the fortress. Now I regret it, so I will probably play the last mission again in a month. Also, I found out that I accidentally whooed Jack into thinking we were an item without me realizing it (damn paragon choices being vague), and when I told her it was over, now she just tells me to "Fuck off", even after the final battle when I wanted to hear what she had to say about it. Hope someone mods that out or something, but either way the last mission will have to be redone so I can blow it up like I should have.

It'd be funny if saving the Collector base turned out to be the "better" choice when loading your save into ME3. For example the technology salvaged from the Collectors end up helping against the Reapers.

So far, most of the better imported choices are paragon choices, so maybe it's time for renegades to have their day.

You get Legion his Widow sniper rifle and you can sit behind cover and let him take everything out almost singlehandedly. He's definitely not weak.

Just saying.

That would work if the game gave me time to get it. I was short on Platinum because of other upgrades that I decided to take before his loyalty mission, and then once I finished his loyalty mission and it offered me the sniper upgrade, I was going to head out to get Platinum only to find the game forcing me into the crew capture scene. I didn't want to chance going out for scans and find half my crew dead by some internal timer, so I decided to go without it.

He is definitely not "weak" but compared to characters like Grunt or Garrus he felt weaker when I used him. I still think he was a great companion, and his effectiveness with the last boss definitely can not be understated. He and Tali made a really good team.

Wow, Scythe made EXACTLY the same choices that I did.
Except for the last one, I told the Illusive Man to suck it and blew the station up.

I really think that having the Collector tech is important to beating the Reapers, but damn I hate giving TIM that much power.

I would not be so guilty about it if not for the fact that literally the whole crew is like "dude... we gave that guy a lot of powerful shit, I hope you did the right thing." Even Miranda and Jacob were given me the "I am not so sure about giving the base to TIM" and I am like "God damn it... can't someone think I made the right choice on this damn ship!?"

Knowing my luck though I will go back, do it all again but blow it up this time, and everyone will be like "Dude... we could have used that tech to fight the Reapers, I hope you did the right thing".

Goddamnit, they made Tali so damned adorable in this game. Gonna be tough to choose what I want... or stick it through with Ashley for the 3rd one. Then there is Miranda in the black suit.... can't I just have them all? I may have to make multiple saves...

Last night, I got really annoyed. For some reason, the game locked up HARD and caused me to do a cold reboot. When I got back in, I lost ALL my keyboard settings, my achivements and most importantly all my paragon and renegade levels. I spent a solid 2 hours scouring the net for some kind of trainer that would fix it. I finally managed to get it fixed but really ruined my immersion last night.

Just to keep the discussion going, what did you think of all the squad members during the playthrough? Who did you find yourself focusing on and such? Here is a little list from most interesting to me, to least.

Garrus - I already mentioned him. Just his demeanor, his very cold morals and get shit done attitude, mixed with some humor and wit on occasion.

Grunt - The guy really grew on me, even more then Wrex did in the first game. He became pretty much a stable of my main squad. Not sure, but I just really liked playing with him.

Legion - He was the last guy I got on my team, and frankly I wish Bioware made it so you could recruit him before starting the IFF countdown. Something about the way he talks and how his face expresses just made me smile, I got goose bumps when I told him to blow up the Herectic base, and he opens his flaps, eyes turn red, and he says "ACKNOWLEDGED" before getting to work without hesitation.

Tali - It is Tali, you all know why people love her.

Mordin - The guy is just fun to listen to, not only on the ship, but also in combat. He has a lot of great skills that really help when needed also, though I rarely took him with me.

Jack - Jack sits in the middle of my interest. I liked using her sometimes just for Shockwave, but it was rare and only when I knew the next mission was going to be a firefight with a lot of guys (If only I took her to the derelict reaper, damn that one was rather intense). As cliche as it was and filled with angst, I liked her story too.

Miranda - Other then being "Sexy" in that black jumpsuit, I really didn't enjoy having her on my team. She had some good squad bonuses and biotics, but I just found more effectiveness in other fighters.

Thane - I feel kind of bad for Thane, because I actually liked his personality, but I got him so late in the game that I never really gathered a lot of interest in him. I already had my "assassin" squad pretty much locked down. What is worst is the only mission I took him with, was his loyalty mission, which involved zero combat.

Samara - She fell into the same trap as Thane, I got her just before going to get the IFF, so she had the least amount of time working with me, and just like Thane, her loyalty mission involved pretty much zero combat. I used her as the biotic over Jack in the last mission more over the fact I worried turning down Jack in the romance angle screwed up her loyalty, making her prone to die.

Zaeed - Didn't really care for him. He is great when fighting, but BioWare made it so you can't even talk with him on the ship, rather you can just hear him ramble about stuff or compact trash in the background, making my desire to bring him along way to low. I like talking with my crew and the only time I got that was in the loyalty mission.

Jacob - Just like Kaiden in the first game, I felt he was rather forgettable to my male Shepard character. I just didn't have any desire to use him after doing his loyalty mission, I just had more fun and interesting choices.

I still hate the fem Shep romance options. As much as I like Garrus as a character I feel so icky romancing a turian. >.>

GARRUS IS A ROMANCE OPTION FOR FEMSHEP!?

But... that's just WRONG!! Not only cause of his Turian ickyness but... come on, he's like a brother to Shephard!

Oh man, that was surprising to read....

-Calleja, who has never played with a FemShep.

Yeah FemShep options are Jacob, Garrus,Thane, and Kelly, who is a romance option for everyone on the freaking ship (lol).

Felt exactly the same way about every single one of them saying I should have blown the station. Thing is that TIM is the only person in the universe who both has power and supports Shepard's fight so honestly I think he's the only person who Shepard can trust with the station.

Council would probably just say Saren set it up to embarrass me and that I'm too stupid to realize it, Anderson/ Udina would probably butt heads with the council without effecting any kind of change, and the Alliance would say they can use it while burying it's exsistance and sending me off on some tail chase mission.

Cerebeus on the other hand has thrown nearly their entire Budget behind the fight against the Reapers and offered up substantial support with information, logistics and money to continue the fight. Why on earth would they not use the tech they gained to fight the Reapers?

Pretty much the same reasons for myself deciding to keep the station at the very end. He brought me back to life, gave me a really powerful ship, let me control the ship and make all the choices without him nagging me all the time, a rather loyal crew, and tons of resources and information. It seemed weird not to trust him a little bit. They even had that scene where they almost hinted that the whole thing with Jack was not even fully known by him...

But that's the point. This is the most secretive and influential human in the galaxy. He has agents and contacts everywhere, and plans inside plan inside plans. You don't know what his final motivations are, or what having such technology will mean for the galaxy. All the freedoms he gives us may just be his own way to put us into a false sense of security. For all we know, he will use the factory to make himself into a Reaper.

That is why I am unsure. I might save the save game I have now and reload an old one and do the blowup anyways, that way when I learn more about ME3 I will be able to choose how I wish for that to happen.

That I think is one of the neat things about ME2, you are not sure if some of the things you are doing will be good or bad in the end. Destroy the base, I may lose Cerebrus, but I leave the base, I may make Cerebrus a stronger enemy in the future. Legion's loyalty mission is a good example also. You rewrite all the Geth to rejoin the collective as a whole, you don't know what all those former heretics will do to the Geth. Will they infect the Geth and make them even more deadly now that the "good" Geth got to experience what the heretic saw? Or will the fact you saved them allow the Geth to better fight the Reapers, since they know the internal structure of the Reapers from working with Sovereign.

Can't wait to see how that plays out.

Also, what anyone else extremely disturbed when they broke down that chick into goo? I think I am going to have nightmares about that scene.

God I love this game. They took everything I somewhat disliked in the first instalment and poured it into awesomesauce.

As far as the romancing went:
I decided to stick it out with Ashley, I'm interested to see where that goes in part 3, I'll probably romance others in my non imported playthroughs following this first one.

On the ending:
So we all handed the base to TIM on our first playthrough? :p
It just seemed like the right choice and I was somewhat amazed that no one agreed with me on this (ingame). TIM put a lot of time, effort and resources in letting me do my thing and didn't bitch and moan about how I did it, unlike the council did.

Hell no, I blew that shit up, and told TIM that I'm running things, and if he's lucky he can come along for the ride. Then I hung up on him.

Felt great, too.

That's the great thing about Cerberus. You can't tell if they're good or bad, or anything in between. Their ideals sound good, and in a galaxy of so many people sitting on their ass, it's great to see a group being proactive. But they're so damn secretive that it's impossible to tell what their real goals are. If Cerberus were made too powerful, what would keep them from steamrolling the rest of the galaxy once the reapers were taken care of?

If there's a galaxy left, anyway.

I blew that shit up, too. And I also hang up on TIM *high fives N_R*.

That and the choosing of the team leaders were the decisions I took a good long time to ponder. I decided that Cerberus was just too good to be true and they obviously have ulterior motives. Also, I didn't forget the stuff Cerberus did in ME1. The idea of a human-superiority organization gaining leverage over the entire galaxy didn't sit well with me. Humans don't need any more of a leg up at this point, they're one of the Council Races and are pretty much running C-Sec now. Humanity is recognized and respected now, we don't need Cerberus fighting with anti-alien agendas around MY Milky Way. Screw Martin Sheen, we do things MY way. (damn, I think Shephard might need someone to keep HIM in check now :paranoid:)

Now that it is over I have time to show everyone my own Shepard. He looks exactly like the one I had in ME1, only I gave him hair rather then the buzzcut, just for the sake of making it look like time passed.

The last one is HILARIOUS, I still don't know where I got him to make such a stupid face.

The damn lighting suckered me with my femshepard. I thought she looked half decent and she didn't look bad in the beginning, then on frigging Omega in the red lighting there I noticed there that she looks like she has retarded psuedohuman fish lips. And it drove me nuts.

Dr. Pepper codes. Not available outside of the US unless you sign up for three separate accounts on drpepper.com in the promotions section and use these codes:

CBEEAAA41NWH
CBEEAAAE4L9N
CBEEAAAFQG9J
CBEEAAAE98ZV

Any 3 of the 4 should work. You have to use a separate account for each code and tie each account to your ea/bioware account.

Each code should give you the choice to unlock a single item from Mass Effect 2 (or some other EA games). It's a pain in the ass but it's the only way those of us outside the US can get it.

Regarding party members:

Garrus: You can really tell the two intervening years have changed him. He's still dedicated to truth and justice, but now he's willing to take extreme measures to get things done. I thought Garrus's darker personality fits well with the overall darker settings and tone of the second game.

Tali: Still hot, still cute, incredibly well voiced. Also, she feels like she's grown up and become very competent, an integral part of the Migrant Fleet.

Miranda: Not too big a fan of the ice queen schtick, though her opening up and becoming warmer after earning her loyalty is nice. Also, she's very hot.

Jack: I haven't tried romancing her yet, so maybe there's more than meets the eye, but basically while her "they messed with me so now I'm fucked up" background is understandable and worthy of sympathy, I didn't care enough about her to really want to be her shrink.

Jacob: Found him to be a bit forgettable and not all that interesting.

Thane: Pretty cool, but I wish he lived up to the sheer awesomeness he was in the preview trailers.

Grunt: Ditto.

Samara: It's an asari with her boobs hanging out. Also, it was nice to learn more about asari culture, such as the justicars and the Ardat-Yakshi.

Mordin: This guy's hilarious in every way possible. I could listen to him talk for hours and not get tired of him.

Zaeed: Pretty forgettable in terms of character and combat ability. I don't think I used him at all apart from his loyalty quest.

Other crew members: Joker is still awesome and hilarious, as are the two engineers in the engineering deck. I also liked Kelly, since I'm a big pervert and she's an attractive woman willing to sleep her way to the top. Doctor Chakwas seemed odd though, she feels quite stiff and robotic in this game. It's like her animators forgot to animate her.

I actually liked Jacob. He was the normal guy on the ship. My shep and he were total bros, and I can imagine them going out to a bar together after the mission.

I was also surprised at how much I liked Jack as a character. Her preview videos and stuff all showed her to be nothing but a 90's style gruff omg exxxtreme bitch! But she actually had a lot more depth than she appeared.

Also, she looks like Natalie Portman.

Even though they made her out to be a better character than she first appeared to be, I'm not very partial to Jack.
I like Jack, but I don't like how they don't give you an option to easily say you want to be friends with her. The fact I got in a relationship with her on complete accident annoyed me. Plus I am not very fond of bald girls, unless they are green. :p

I agree and it was annoyingly placed as well. I wrapped up a lengthy mission (in this case, miranda's loyalty quest), went through a nice immersive rp moment, we get back on the ship and before I can even save, I'm thrown into a decision making moment (i'm currently trying to wrap all things before going to the IFF, with all loyalty/sub quests done and no romance started) with Jack and Miranda in a fight. I had to choose Miranda. I may down the line, have to take a mid-game save backup I did and play it through with Jack.

Is there a way you can get MaleShep to sleep with all of them? Polygamy FTW.

I didn't have that issue because I was way into Paragon by that point. The Paragon (and probably renegade) charm option lets you get through the fight without choosing either one of them. You later have a similar event with Tali and Legion, they don't have much if anything to do with the romance options, but choosing one over the other causes the forsaken one to lose loyalty.

As for sleeping with all of them? From what I know, if you sleep with Jack first, then after you beat the game you can "continue" playing for the side missions, and during that time you break it off with her, and pickup the other girls one after the other. Jack is the only one that will never reconcile after you break off with her, so you can swap between Tali, Miranda, and Kelly (though I hear Kelly is actually a free romance, and does not actually effect the real romances, as weird as that is. ) This is only what I heard, not done it myself.

Also, you can call the romance optins up to spend time with you in the captains room after beating the game. Kelly even dances for you in stripper gear, and sits on your lap.

For the record, on both of my playthroughs so far, I blew up the collector base.

Also, my usual team consisted of Garrus and Zaeed/Thane.

My general philosophy being that it's better to take them out at range. Though if they do make it up to us, we still have the needed tools.

I did use Tali quite a bit for her combat drone abilities.

The rest were situational at best or not used at all outside their respective loyalty missions.

Overall impressions:

Garrus - still very much the same as he was in ME1. Kicks-ass, takes names, and puts bullets in the annoying ones. Exactly what I want him to be. Almost let him shoot Harkin and probably will on my full renegade run through.

Tali- romanced her hoping to see what a Quarrian looked like, didn't get to, but still like her a lot. Getting to actually go to the Migrant Fleet was pretty cool. Again, voice acting is great and I'm pretty loyal to her for sticking with me through everything. Plus, she's got the "vas Normandy" designation now, so probably gonna stay through 3 as well.

Miranda - very hot, esp. in the black suit. Otherwise kinda blah. May romance her in a later playthrough.

Jacob - just very blah. He's former alliance, so was snapping to faster than anyone else, but he didn't have any intersting abilities, so I didn't have much interest. Easily my least used team member.

Mordin - hilarious. but not very useful to me in the missions. May be worth it to take him along just to hear all his various quips.

Grunt - strong warroir for short-range fighting, but otherwise not much use to me. I actually liked Wrex better.

Thane - good for long-range support, interesting backstory. Romanced him with my femshep and he gave me a nickname that I thought was kinda cool. I'll probably try to romance Kelly on the next femshep playthrough.

Jack - got tired of the ultra bitch mode. I get it, she had a traumatizing childhood, but instead of dealing with it and possibly growing as a character she just bitches at everything. Hopefully, if she makes a return in 3 you'll be able to either have her harness her anger into even greater power or get a grip, untwist her panties, and get over it already.

Samara - very cool character. I really like her backstory and insight into Asari culture. Have not yet tried using Morinth yet, but will likely do it on my full renegade playthrough.

Legion - had the same problem with getting him late that everyone else mentions. Because he is acquired so late in the game that I never really used him for much. He could be a great choice with the long range I like and the drone abilities, but I just don't have the time to utilize him properly. Second playthrough, I didn't even activate him until after I had finished off the collectors.

I think you're doing a disservice to Miranda and Thane, here.

Miranda is probably one of the most useful squadmates in terms of abilities, which you especially see if you play in Insanity. She is able to strip all three defense types with Warp and Overload, she has a crowd control ability with Crippling Slam, and her class skill benefits the whole team.

Thane does insane damage since his class skill ends up adding +50% damage output, and his shredder ammo can add +70% more to organic targets. He's one of the best for fighting Collectors because he can strip their biotic shields with Warp, then eviscerate them with his sniper rifle and shredder ammo.

I think you're doing a disservice to Miranda and Thane, here.
Those were merely my opinions. I don't have the inclination to play on Insanity, so that does not mean much to me. Thane came to late in the game for me to really get into his character, and Miranda was good, but I felt others were simply better, with or without the squad bonuses.

If you play after the credits and talk to Legion more,
he's ton more interesting as a character. The way his faceplate animates actually conveys a lot of emotion for him, and his conversation with EDI is adorable.
