My university definitely doesn't want me....I am becoming increasingly convinced that I am isolated and unwanted and it is an unpleasant feeling.

Lack of receipt confirmation is in my top 5 pet-peeves for job application. I hate it when applying to a job feels like gathering a bunch of papers then throwing them off a cliff, praying to the wind.More job application fun!
PROTIP for people looking to hire: if you've had a vacancy for over a year, and someone expresses interest and you say you'll send them docuementation. DO IT. Promptly.
Also: If someone sends you their application, comfirm receipt dammit!
I realize it's a week before Christmas, and December is insane in this industry, and that there is a lot of paperwork and committees involved, but seriously people. Get it together!
Yeesh.
Good god, I hate that kind of thing. On top of all that, I'm one of the people in charge of or Friday Xmas celebration. I made all these decisions and put a lot of time in, and our fucking head of admissions butts in and undoes all this stuff I've done. I am so ready for this week to be over.
Me too! If they want me in charge of something, they should respect my decisions. Oh well.. I'm making toffee as a gift for our secretaries and facility mangers, and that is cheering me up.Good god, I hate that kind of thing.
And tonight I come home to find my video card (8800 GTX) has given up the ghost. Hello laptop my old friend, it's been a rough week. It's been a rough month. It's been a rough year. The magic smoke escaped the TV last night. Argh.
I don't know whether to say "Don't jinx it" or "those are two things I'd trade for one particular thing to have not happened this year."At least you're still living in civilization and (presumably) have a car.
Can't ever do anything halfway, can you?And tonight I come home to find my video card (8800 GTX) has given up the ghost. Hello laptop my old friend, it's been a rough week. It's been a rough month. It's been a rough year.
It did last a good 6 years. Still was keeping up pretty well with modern games. Ah well. I think going forward I'll not be spending 500+ bucks on a video card any more. Technology is moving too fast. A $150 dollar card now has 5 times the benchmark score. So I'll end up spending the same amount over the long haul but enjoying better performance on a bi-yearly basis. Can't ever do anything halfway, can you?
Well, it sounds like your iron soldier outlasted mine, though only by about two weeks.

Good friends. Hard to come by. Sounds like you're well lovedA friend pointed out to me that since 2007, there's been a non-trivial architecture change (PCIe 2.0 to 3.0). My current motherboard is only 2.0, which means the new cards today won't work on it. So. New motherboard is required. Which means new RAM, new processor...
Basically new entire computer.
I guess I must have inundated the environs with waves of "crestfallen" radiation. I probably wouldn't be able to budget an entire new PC for months. So my friend then surprises me by e-mailing me a copy of the invoice for the PC he's just bought me for christmas. I'm glad he wasn't there in person because I broke down sobbing like an infant. Nobody's ever done anything like that for me before.
He's been my friend for almost 20 years. We went to high school together. And this still blew me away. First person (that I wasn't related to by blood or romance) that basically dropped a grand on me out of the blue.Good friends. Hard to come by. Sounds like you're well loved
You're welcome.I just realized that we have these little numbers on our profiles for our ratings, and that I have exactly one negative rating. One. This is somehow more infuriating than having a whole bunch of them.
Only needs a lock is negative; disagree is neutral. I languished with one 'needs a lock' for ages, until I voiced my opinion on orange juice pulp. You're welcome.
There you go.Nope, still one. Troublesome.
They will work, but they will downclock to PCIe 2.x speeds. It should be no different than plugging a USB 3 device into a USB 2 port...you will get slower communication, but otherwise no huge difference.A friend pointed out to me that since 2007, there's been a non-trivial architecture change (PCIe 2.0 to 3.0). Not every human being on this planet is a dick. So long as there's no ulterior motive, I say you take advantage of the opportunity and sneak in a little happiness. It'll do you some good, even if it happens where nobody gets to see you smile.Nobody's ever done anything like that for me before.
I don't have any locks. I am disappoint.Only needs a lock is negative; disagree is neutral. I languished with one 'needs a lock' for ages, until I voiced my opinion on orange juice pulp.
I'm not falling for your game.I don't have any locks. I am disappoint.
Don't worry, one day you too will offend people with your CORRECT OPINION ABOUT ORANGE JUICEI don't have any locks. I am disappoint.
