My sister's helping me update my resume. I'm going to miss the exceptionally sharp and enthusiastic kids, but not the irritating parents. The lessons and creativity, but not the sacrificing of almost every scrap of free time. And I especially won't miss coming home feeling sapped of all energy and creativity. I love this school, and I believe in it, but this model they have is not sustainable. This job suits 50-60 year-olds with no kids/empty nesters who don't mind giving 80-90% of their free time to their job. They have so much trouble hiring.

Who knows if I'll find anything in the next few months? I might be stuck here another couple of years, and if I am, I'll be okay. I'm good at what I do, and this still beats the public schools who are hiring at the moment. But it feels really good to think about what else I can do with these skills--and who might be willing to compensate me a bit better. Just thinking about it has been comforting.[DOUBLEPOST=1415555381,1415555064][/DOUBLEPOST]
I found an old film Canon on ebay today super cheap that will work with my lenses. Fun!
Nice! I don't get to comment on them often, but I have been enjoying your pictures very much.

Crappy draft done at 88k words. It sucks and it's going to suck until my wife and I un-suck it, but I'm at least proud of myself for finishing a draft under 100k words for once.

I "like" both parts of your post!

You need to do what's best for you. Any job that requires that much of your free time isn't worth it long term. It's always a good idea to keep your resume up to date and know what else is out there!

And thank you, I am looking forward to trying film! I will actually need to think about the pictures I take because I will only have 24/roll of film!

Good: Picked up the entire Justice League animated series on DVD. Didn't even know a big boxed set was coming out until I saw it today. Yes!

Bad: Due to a number of distractions, the next Supervillainous will probably be a single, oversized panel.

Kid's getting his own computer tomorrow (a repurposed one from his grandpa) so he can Minecraft and a couple other games.
To facilitate this, our living room computer station has been broken down and reforged from a vaguely L-shaped 3-person job into two separate islands housing two users apiece. Also, the lighting has been rearranged and a much larger rug was placed in order to cover more of the floor. Also, we moved in an old tube-style phonograph to replace the short end of the "L" because that's where it was supposed to go all this time anyway (and now we have a big hole in our bedroom where we were using it to pile things).

What's one more computer to admin, I guess. At least now he won't trash the desktop/settings of our computers any more.

So, now that I have a nice new video card, I decided I would look into overclocking, and see what kind of different it made. I was using the unreal engine based 'HEAVEN' demo for benchmarking purposes, mostly because it's free and I'm just testing the waters anyway.

Without messing at all with the voltage (and using an online guide, since I'm new at this), I was able to overclock the core clock speed from 1366MHz to 1506MHz and the memory clock speed from 7GHz to 8GHz. My general fps in the benchmark with all settings set to 'extreme' went from 68fps to 79fps. Everything still runs very stable, and temperature with the fan set to auto-speed never went above 70°C, and fan speed never even went above 60%.

Overclocking is magical! Why did no one ever tell me this before?

A fucking awesome kid wrote that my lesson changed his life on a worksheet...and then suggested therapy. I love this child.

I got bestof'd on Reddit again for the second time in my life. Appropriately enough, it was for a post that was remarkably similar to my other bestof post.

Dammit, I saw a comic I breezed past just last week that basically was this gag. Now I can't find it. Basically, it was a guy mowing the yard, wishing for slave labor, and the punchline frame has him in bed with his wife telling her he's ready to have kids (and she reacts "HELL YES.")

Well at least he didn't tell you to man up, or the third thing that usually follows in that memetic reference ;)
Heehee. I do this really common observation lesson in 4th grade using candles and an apple core. I ask them to describe and then identify the objects. Then at the end of the lessons, I bite into the apple. He's still talking about it this week. "I can't believe...how could you do that??? How could you deceive us?! I mean, it was awesome, but how could you??" He's very expressive. My little nerd friend.

Finally some use for having children!

Fucking snow. Fucking parents making children, innocent children, do manual labour for them.

My father would come into my room, grab me by my shoulders and throw me from my bed to the floor, draping my coat over me. "THERE'S SNOW EVERYWHERE!" he'd yell, and whack my head a few times with the shovel, to get the message across. Then he'd steal the coat back and send me half-naked into the forty-below weather to clear our driveway. The driveway, I should note, was so long that by the time I reached the end of it, the top needed to be shovelled again. Sisyphus' winters.

You have brought up some stuff.

Actually she volunteered to do it and it was only half an inch of snow. There as no forcing involved. I am not a monster. ;)

I just don't comprehend this. What is that thing she had in her hands? I just never... oh, wait, I live in a part of the country that people are running around this morning whining about how "cold" it was (about 38f) and how they were going to freeze to death. Yeah, what you have there would have shut down this part of the state for the day.
