Minor victory thread

As part of my new, challenging job, I got a new computer from the company. It's pretty nice. My old computer started to lag when I opened more than a few windows. This one doesn't.

I'm tempted to install Steam on it and start downloading games, but that might violate a company policy or three.

You know, it's funny, when someone mentions a "hunky" guy, I imagine this man whose body is all lumpy and weirdly put together. Has anyone ever heard Dana Gould describe his physique as a "condom full of walnuts?" Like that.

But still I appreciate the sentiment.

She got back from dealing with her bosses in Calgary (company owes her like, a staggering amount of money). I took her out for dinner and we had a pretty good evening talking about stuff. A little less depressed about the thought of losing her right now.

In the middle of an expected 6-12" of snow. In anticipation, I grabbed the last room available on last night's shift. The hot tub room.

So naturally, I was too busy running all over town to get ready for the bad weather to enjoy it.

But... the snow won't be anywhere near over by the time tonight's shift is done, and I've still got that room. :)

Roads were still crap by the time I finally dug out my car and left the hotel. A foot of snow in the driveway since I wasn't there to remove it. But I just charged right on up the hill and into the driveway no trouble at all.

I don't mean to brag or anything, but I just asked out a girl without freezing up or forgetting to breathe. And her answer was vague and non-committal but it wasn't an explicit "no."

"Bah I don't like people who think that their size alone makes them intimidating."

@Squidleybits "And your size doesn't make you intimidating?"

"No my sour disposition and unfriendly demeanor makes me intimidating."

"What? You expect me to refute that? "

So it turned out today that she told me she's a lesbian.

She still wants to go on the date and see where it goes from there.

Convinced a lesbian to go on a date with me. Still counting this as a victory.

Go, have fun, don't have any expectations. Perhaps she can introduce her smarter-funnier-and-hotter-non-lesbian-sibling-or-friend. Or perhaps you'll just get a great new friend out of it. Either way, win. ;)

Mark Lawrence is a powerhouse in the fantasy genre. All three books in his Broken Empire trilogy (published by Harper Voyager) have either been nominated or won David Gemmell Legend awards, and have also won Barnse and Noble's and Goodreads "Best Fantasy Releases". He's also probably one of the most social-network savvy authors in existence today.

While making a blog post about how self promotion helps sell books, he had the idea to see how relatively obscure self-published books would fare if they got reviewed by some of the top fantasy book bloggers on the internet. That idea blossomed into reality, and he ended up getting more submissions than he had slots open. This challenge has started getting traction in the blogosphere, being talked about on authors blogs, goodreads, and well-known places like Fantasy Faction.

My book made the list.

I will be read by Sarah of Bookworm Blues. Not only that, but I find myself in the first group of five books she's going to read, so I'm in the unenviable position of knowing right away whether she likes it or hates it, when the whole challenge runs through September.

I'm a nervous wreck.

The only problem with your series is there's still only two of them. (and some small typos/editing errors, but that's normal :p)
