Minor victory thread

That sounds fantastic and daunting all at once. I'm sure you can take on the challenge, though!
It's definitely gonna be a busy summer.

The thing that's gonna be different about next year is I'll have a collaborator. Last year our head of school wanted me to revamp our science program to be more place-based all by myself, with no science background (besides my year of math and science blocks in Elementary Ed). Haven't made much headway. This time I get to work with one of my favorite people at this school.

My sister-in-law just got matched to a New York City hospital for her Psychiatry residency so she'll be able to go up there with my brother when he starts his Radiation Oncology residency in a couple months! :)

If I work hard, maybe I'll be joining them in..oh...5 years?

Second day out sick at work.

This would be a rant, but since my wife has been at work and my son has been at school, I've taken the quiet to remove a half-dozen broken "tamper resistant" electrical outlets and replace them with normal ones. Evidently a lot of states (VA included) require that new homes be equipped with the tamper resistant ones when built. We had about 10 outlets around the house where only one of the pair worked. Now, all of the high-traffic areas have been fixed.

Why are they broken? Because my wife and the adult kids all thought "gently wiggle the plug into place, it will be stiff until it is broken in" meant instead "This plug won't go in. HULK SMASH!". Maybe this should be in the rant section.

Then again, I didn't electrocute myself, and nothing popped, arced, sizzled, smoked, exploded or caught on fire. Yet. And each plug only costs a buck fifty to replace. So, yup, minor victory.

Really? Y'all don't like SNL in any incarnation? Or was it good before you have memories for it? 'Good' doesn't mean the greatest thing in comedic history, btw.

as a laymen in the art of home improvement supply, take my word and replace your breakers with arc/ground-fault models. way better safety feature than the tamper-proofs for preventing shocks and shorts that kill you.

It was just so hit and miss, I could never be bothered to watch it often enough to think of it as good.
I grew up watching it and SCTV and Kids in the Hall. My folks let me stay up and watch SNL if there was someone special hosting. I agree that there is a lot of lame mixed in with the gems, but there was some funny times for sure.

Even the funniest SNL skits were like... I don't know... that weird uncle who thinks he's a lot funnier than he actually is.

So I'm starting an after-school cartooning class tomorrow. I'm not getting paid to teach it - I kinda just volunteered to create/manage/teach it. The school is providing the materials, though, and I get to do the class in the library, which is climate-controlled. Nice. I'm going to be teaching the kids how to create comic strips from concept all the way to finished, inked pieces. I figured I'd develop a comic strip with them, too.

So this will be a thing you'll see more of soon enough.

That's really great idea! Bravo!
