Well then, there you have a solution: more thorough health checks. No need to forbid old people driving...
The aforementioned old people whine and bitch about how health checks are discrimination and that driving is a right no one can take away from them. Then they mistake the gas for the brake and plow into a bus stop.

Wait a minute... In the Americas, once you get your driving license you keep it forever? No retesting of any kind?? No health checks?

Here you need to go to special centers where they check your eyesight, coordination, etc to make sure you can drive safely. You need to do that again every time you want to renew your license, which at first needs to be done every 10 years, at some age it's every 5 years and then (I think) every year. Does this exist in the US of A and Canada?
In BC, after a certain age I believe you need a doctor to certify you are still fit to drive when you want to renew your license. I don't think it's a very strict test though.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. I know because a fat man named Richard Cody told me.

Seriously, though. Re-test the fuck outta that shit. Also, perhaps give a tougher test the first time around. I felt like it was easy as hell to get my driver's license, aside from the parallel parking bit. Which I have not used in the three years since I got my license.

I've never taken any kind of behind the wheel test.

I wish they would re-test this stuff cause I know some people who should not be driving.

My driver's test only lasted about 3-5 minutes, and he never took me out on one of the main roads. It's just a good thing my dad was a great teacher. He made sure I was fit to drive. The fact that that's how little attention they pay to new drivers scares me.

Unfortunately, retesting wouldn't do much for most younger drivers, they can fake good driving habits while being tested or when they see a cop car, but for the rest of the time on the road they just don't give a damn. There is statistical evidence for this. It's why we young peoples have to pay more for car insurance.

Yup. With young drivers it's not lack of skill, it's poor judgement. The reverse is true for old people.
