Scratch realizes that while he has Kirby as a companion, their relationship is akin to Garfield and Odie, in that they are not equals. Scratch also realizes he's getting older, and thus craves a mate.

He encounters a female cat, who is everything he ever dreamt of, but she has a normal cat's intelligence. So he puts her in the machine and gives her genius level intellect.

Hijinks ensue.

Possibly a miscarriage arc, as well.
