So I *FINALLY* got around to watching this show and I have to say it was much better than I expected. Started off a little...meh. Very formulaic, CSI/ Law & order/ Criminal Minds kinda thing but with superpowers and a sci fi twist , but as the over arching plot took hold and it planted its feet a little more firmly in the MCU's soil,it really improved. I'll definitely be back for Season 2.

:zoid: Indeed! It begins with a background being established by Agent Carter. Then revolves around that issue with new twists And AND an iconic villain is revealed! With some nice special effects.

It was pretty good. It's nice seeing how the character evolved since we last saw them, and the villain actually has some heft to him since he is much more classic.

Total waste of Lucy Lawless though. =( Also, holy shit poor Fitz.

I like the atmosphere in season 2. It used to feel like high adventure with their pristine working conditions, high tech gadgets, and unlimited funding. Now you get the sense that they're on the run and they have to fight and sacrifice for everything.

Yes I think for this season they are taking to heart the fact the first season started so slowly. It really is keeping a good pace.

I think this season has a lot more freedom to do what it wants, mostly because Age of Ultron doesn't hit until May so they have an entire season to build up to it, instead of having to cut it in half for two movies.

Usually a character "leaves" a show because the actor leaves and gets written out (eg. Chuck from Happy Days, Lori from That '70s Show). But the actress who plays Simmons is still part of the show and gets screen time. I'm wondering why Simmons left the team.

I would guess so that they can...

...demonstrate Hydra's brainwashing capabilities on her. Simmons being seperate to start with allows them to have her be abducted by Hydra without having to set that up in advance, which would make the main cast suspicious/attempt to rescue her.

The story reason is that she left because she felt she was holding back Fitz's recovery. But the real life reason? I know she has a movie coming out Nov. 21 (Reach Me) but she doesn't seem to be a major player in that.

Honestly, I was guessing the guilt of watching Fitz struggle mentally because of injuries sustained saving her life. I know that's not the excuse she gave, but story-wise it makes more sense to me.

She really never left the show. The actress still has to show up to play the version of Simmons inside Fitz head, and based on the teasers for next week, Simmons is now part of Hydra and has a confrontation with Coulson. The first two episodes focused on establishing some of the new guys, mostly Hunter.

Though honestly, when I saw that scene of the confrontation in the teaser, I was pretty certain it's going to be one of those moments where it looks like Coulson's in trouble, only for him to say a witty joke, Simmons drops the gun, and we find out she is deep undercover for him. Just you wait.

That scene with Fitz and Ward together was great. Fitz was processing so many emotions and his damaged brain could not handle all of them. He can barely order a glass of water but he was suddenly speaking to a trusted friend who had betrayed him.

I've gotta say, I've been really impressed with Iain de Caestecker's acting so far this season. He plays Fitz' sheer terror and distress at being diminished extremely well. And yes, the scene he had with Brett Dalton was awesome.

Finally watched the existing episodes.

HELLS YEAH, finally an instantly recognizable villain from the comics. Not some second rate also ran, like the Enchantress' sister, or Deathlok, but an honest to goodness big baddie.
