[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

I want to finish the show, since I think the last two seasons are the ones I haven't seen, but yeah I remember this is around where I stopped watching weekly.

Halfway through Agents of SHIELD season 3 ... fucking Whedon bullshit.

When the shot comes through the window, it felt too conveniently wrong and I assumed this was a dream sequence. Nope, good old sudden Whedon death.

Which was where the show started losing its luster to me.
Yeah, I have to agree. The whole last season story was sort of bleh to me. And I didn't like the ending at all. I hate when a great show has a poor ending *cough*Chuck*cough*.

Or Earth 2, or V (1984), both of which got canned right about when they were starting to find their footing.

On last night's Preacher, Jesse acts like a supervillain , and Tulip continues to be a psychotic ex-girlfriend ... I kinda hate this show.
The preview looked like something might happen, but yeah. I'm just about ready to drop this show. I know Rogen and Goldberg said they were going to deviate from the original books, but I didn't know you could make Preacher so boring. (And they can't blame it on tv standards, because this is the same channel that airs The Walking Dead.)

Back in the time before the internet to let me know that the show had been cancelled.

I just sadly waited for a resolution to the cliffhanger which would never come.

I doubt they have the budget to do a proper road trip show. They have to reuse the locations they have.

ALSO

I just finished Humans. I really enjoyed it.

I fuckin' teared up when William Hurt died and Odi started reciting memories to him as he lay dying.

Its mostly the characters for me at this point that bug me(though the lack of an awesome road trip is still a factor). Tulip is one of the most schizophrenic anti-heroes of all time, Jesse needs to get a fucking clue, and the damn towns-folk are CLEARLY all gonna die by the end of this season so why are we wasting our lives focusing on them?

Almost done with POI season 4 on Netflix, will sadly have to wait for season five to show up there before I can finish it but it is a great show.

Even if they don't have the budget for the road trip, it feels like there's no real stakes. QCE&M (or whatever) has no explained purpose, Tulip, Jesse and Cass barely interact, they've mentioned Jesse's father but no threats of Angelville (which wouldn't have required a trip, it could be a town over), Tulip's hung up on someone who ditched them (which, without any backstory is just "B.F.D.") and the angels have done jack-shit, except not die. I'm all for a slow burn, but it seems they're doing nothing with the plot/characters they do have.

I binged the first 15? episodes or so and lost a little steam. I've always meant to go back and everyone says it becomes/is amazing, I just haven't done it yet.
Like with many shows, the first season sets up expectations and lays the groundwork for the larger story. You do need to wade through a lot of number of the week episodes but those get fewer and far between as the series progresses. Give it another shot.

Has anyone gotten into Outlander? I read GRRM drool all over it and was intrigued enough to watch the first episode and eeeeehh, I'm not sure.

It's hard to talk about Person of Interest without getting into spoilers, but what I can say is:

- Perhaps the most amazing thing about PoI is that it exists at all. It's a gimmick procedural on the stodgiest US television network. It's locked into the framework of its gimmick -- the numbers never stop coming. On top of that, it has a narrative device, a frequent use of flashbacks, that has tripped up other shows (Lost and Arrow come to mind.) The thing is: the show's creators had a plan. They had stories to tell and largely told those stories. They built up larger stories on the framework of the weekly gimmick. They used the narrative device to reveal small details that fit together in a larger whole. And the details do fit together. This isn't a show that cultivates an air of mystery just to reveal that it didn't matter or a show that changes details because it's trying to outsmart the audience. It plays fair.

- @Gryfter is correct. The larger stories become more obvious as the show moves into season 2. More than that, the show becomes more comfortable with itself. The main characters fit together more naturally. The cast starts to expand with some excellent additions.

If anyone wants to get a feel for the show, IGN posted a guide to quickly getting up to speed on the show. The episodes they recommended for season 1 were:
"Pilot"
"Ghosts"
"Witness"
"Root Cause"
"Many Happy Returns"
"No Good Deed"
"Firewall"

And to be clear, there are a lot of good, watchable episodes in season 1. It's just that PoI isn't optimized for binge watching, likely a byproduct of being a show on the aforementioned stodgiest US network.

@Charlie Don't Surf -- watch "No Good Deed". It is entirely your jam.

Alright so there's definitely a decline in quality during season 6 of House, but shining jewels like "Help Me" can still be found. Hell of a way to end the season.

I'll disagree with the first part! Lost's flashbacks were always its greatest asset imo, and they're the best example of constant flashbacks working in TV drama. Not to spoil a 10 year old show - but I might agree with them being dicey in the final season/with that twist, but overall it was great.

And yeah, I'm only not watching it since I'm drowning in other stuff on my plate. TV never stops. But especially since it's conveniently on Netflix, I will end up finishing it one way or another.

If it weren't the last season I think I'd be stopping House with season 8. Park is a horrible actress and
Foreman being the Dean just turns his arrogant dicknose dial up to 11.

Chris Evans is leaving Top Gear.

Although he was improving (not being as shouty and trying to channel Jeremy so much), I'm not sad to see him go. He really seemed to be the weakest part of the new show.

Otherwise, the new Top Gear has turned out pretty good. They just need to give Sabine real review segments (not just challenges or making people throw up) and bring Rory and Chris Harris doing the news back into the main show.

Watched Shadow Hunters over the weekend. I kinda like the magic system, may look into the books.

Show seems like a Charlie and Gas mash up.

I like Park. She's a bit off but I to work with House you'd have to be.

I love the show but the final season seemed strange to me. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the series almost like I was watching something else. I need to find a new show on Netflix now.

She's not bad as a character, but the actress is just awful. Like she's reading her lines for the first time.

Also yeah, I think that's the issue I've had with this season. Even with most of the team back at this point something just doesn't feel right.

What the fuck, man, House s8 is just trying to make me mad now.

Wilson gets cancer? Dude is basically the only decent person on the show for 8 fucking seasons and he gets cancer? Not cool.
