The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Does this mean we will see you in Diablo soon??
Yes and no. I've BEEN able to play Diablo but once you reach 70 it's nothing more than a grind-fest. I found myself this season running rifts to find the same stuff I found (and lost) last season.

I love DIII in chunks but get tired of it fairly fast.

I wanted to upgrade the motherboard and chipset as well, but to do that I'd have had to spend money on a case, etc. Might as well just buy a whole new rig at that point. But that i7-6770K looked awfully tempting.[DOUBLEPOST=1467672992,1467672879][/DOUBLEPOST]But I can finally run Fallout 4 again so I'm happy.

I think by "4k" you mean "1080p" since your monitor can't actually do 4k.
If you want some context, here are my scores (but keep in mind they are only 1280x1024 and not the 1920x1080 you are running).

Keep in mind that my system is what could've been considered absolutely top-tier for January, 2012. What a difference 4 more years can make, eh? Still, it'll at least carry me to 2018, maybe even 2020.

The video card I replaced was #1 on the benchmarks on July 1, 2014. So it would have been good for most things.

I think by "4k" you mean "1080p" since your monitor can't actually do 4k.
You can still render in 4k for benchmarking, as well as higher quality in-game with supersampling. My monitor can only display 2k, but I render Elite in 4k for higher quality and no aliasing. Though, all that quality is lost when I size those screenshots down, because goddamn 4k images take forever to upload in mass.

I know you can do it, but since it lists his output resolution as 1920x1080, I wasn't sure it was "actual" 4k since the benchmark just says "AA" it doesn't say SSAA or MSAA or whatever. His does say "Extreme HD" which is an option I don't get, though.

Tomorrow AM. That's when it gets delivered. I'll remember you all fondly when I become Max Headroom.

Yeah I discovered that and fixed it. I have the monitor plugged in to the display port and the Vive plugged into the HDMI. Works like a charm and is seriously cool. My room is too small to roam around, though, so I either have to take over the living room or just do standing only.

With all the meetings (like my psychiatrist), errands, and working this new job as a kitchen bitch, I've struggled to keep up on the writing spree I've done in the last month or so.

That said, the writing is still going pretty well. I'm actually going back and forth between TWO books at the moment: Dill's third adventure and my first crack at a Young Adult novel. For some reason, I've started tracking my daily progress. I don't know why I started it, but I'm kind of glad I did. I can track my progress and look at past dates to see how well other writing sessions have gone. For me, I don't consider it a good writing session unless I've written at least 1,000 words in that sitting. So

I don't know who would be interested in this, but here's a breakdown of my word counts for both books I'm currently working on.

Armadillo Mystery #3
May 17: 24,543
May 18: 25,783 (1,240)
July 1: 27,872 (2,089)
July 4: 30,085 (2,213)
July 5: 30,778 (693)
July 6: 31, 247 (469)
July 7: 31,692 (445)
July 8: 33, 084 (1,392)

Young Adult Novel
June 16: 33,356
June 17: 36, 942 (3,586)
June 18: 39,233 (2,291)
June 19: 41,077 (1,844)
June 20: 41,607 (530)
June 21: 44,005 (2,398)
June 22: 44,654 (650)
June 23: 45,074 (420)
July 1: 46,196 (1,120)
July 2: 47,275 (1,079)
July 3: 48,690 (1,360)

With both books, my rough end goal is about 60,000 words. It seems that's my sweet spot for novel length. Whether I go over or under on either, I don't know. But I wrote 1,400 words today for Dill, which is more than I've written most of this week as you can see.

However, I don't think I'll have time to add anything to either book tomorrow. See, the reason I'm posting in the Epic Win thread is...

I HAVE A DATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON.

Met a girl through Tinder of all places who seems really nice and funny. We're meeting downtown and going for a long walk together with her dog.

It's weird. I don't know if it's all the writing I've been doing, the new job, or the new medications I started recently, but I haven't really had a down day in weeks. The best example I can think of? I went into work a few days ago feeling amazing. Had a great writing session (this would've been July 4th, I believe, going by word counts), went into the kitchen to find one of the sinks piled to the rim with dishes. Instead of how I'd usually react and go, "Oh fucking hell!", I laughed. I actually laughed, pointed at it, and said, "Welp. Got my work cut out for me tonight. Better get to it!"

So yeah, things are kinda coming up Nick these days.

So the FIVE HOUR DATE (!!!) was a pretty good time. She brought her dog with her and we brought him to this dog festival at the nearby park. I think she really appreciated this last minute change to the date since I saw the post at Starbucks yesterday. She even met a dog personality trainer who may help with Ollie's excitable temperament.

Then we went for a long walk along the waterfront, talking the whole time. We stopped at an outdoor pub, had a beer and shared some nachos and talked more.

At 34, she's older than the women I've dated in recent memory. It was a little refreshing. She seemed more...grounded. I found her relatable in that, like me, she'd been through a lot of hard times (which she discussed) and really grew as a person because of that. It was all over her face and personality.

We discussed future dates, like hanging out with my friends at the Board Room Cafe or seeing a movie. Nothing 100% settled. But after I said, "Would it be too forward if I went in for a kiss?" at the end she responded positively, I'd say there's at least a chance of a second date.

I hope you capture a few pokemon during the birth. We brought our wii and balance board to one birth and used it pretty effectively to distract my wife and encourage changing positions and using movement to aide the process. I've got a video somewhere of the midwife trying it out.

FYI, turns out playing the hula hoop game in wii fit after the water breaks is hilarious for observers, but not so comfortable for the birth mother squirting amniotic fluid as she hulas and hoops.

How best to protect the balance board is an exercise left to the interested reader.

Actually, that could be a great idea for a sidebar with Dill:

He's running away from some baddy and runs into a guy playing Pokemon Go (or some variant for the Dill-verse), and the guy mistakenly thinks Dill is a super-upgraded Pokemon!
