The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Just got out of the doc's office for Maryse's cancer follow-up: Everything's good, headed in the right direction, bones are healing very well! Blood tests are within normal range, too.

Turns out that she had a small lesion on her liver, though, that we never knew about. But it's also shrunk CONSIDERABLY.

None of that feels PARTICULARLY epic, though, right?

Well, one more thing: The primary tumour is GONE!

*Mic drop*

ALL OF IT sounds epic! Great news and great progress.

I phrased that poorly. We knew she had a spot on her liver, have done since the diagnosis, we just didn't know it was cancerous because, and this is the weird bit, it NEVER showed up on either of her TEP scans. Y'know, the scans that are BUILT to spot cancerous cells and are very good at it. It only ever showed up in MRIs or CT scans. The only reason we even know it was cancer cells is that it was affected by her treatments, which are built to only affect cancer cells.

The bafflement continues.

AWD Hybrid Sport-L trim (they didnt have any "touring" on hand)
All you're really missing are the bigger wheels, extra lighting, leather accents, in-car WiFi, and the premium sound system (unless you added them as options). You got the important stuff right (hyb/awd). Winter should be more fun now.
Now you just need to pick out a bumper sticker or two.

Longish vacation starts Thursday and I feel like I'm just dragging ass to get there, which is fine cause it's been slow all month but I'm super excited.

After my Dublin/London work trip last year, I came back and told Sarah that if we can swing it I'd love to get back to London this summer with her. She had summer school last year and it was last minute so she wasn't able to come that time. With her co-op this year from January to July that went very well and a nice bonus she earned while there(she actually has a job offer already from them too when she's done school next year), we'd have more than enough to make it happen.

Lots of time in London and, with a 2 day rail pass, we'll do a short day in Edenborough and another in Wales maybe. With the rail pass, for me, most of the goal just to enjoy the train ride itself. Also have another of the days over in Bruges(I'd have coordinated some meet up if possible with you @Bubble181 while we're in Belgium but she's super reserved.)

It's her first real vacation in a long time. Other than a trip to meet my family in Ontario a year after we got together we've only managed to do short camping trips or visits back to Vancouver Island while we were on the mainland to visit our family otherwise she's been either in school or starting a new career the whole time. With the recentish change and school nearly done before she starts another, it felt like a good time to make something happen.

Enjoy! Be aware Bruges is super touristy but still pretty... And there are other towns around here even prettier but less well known ;)
Tell her you want to meet up with my wife, she'll suddenly want to join you:D

I took some sausages out of the deep freeze yesterday for dinner tonight, along with some raviolis. Planned to grate some cheese over the raviolis, so I went to Costco to buy parmesan cheese.

Now a few days ago I noticed that the giant bin of Squishmallows was gone, so I expected that maybe there might be a new bin. So I decided to check and see, and lo an behold a giant new half filled bin of Squishies!

I start looking through the bin, it's filled with ones that my wife does not collect, that's an important part, she collects them I don't. But I spy the tag! Junie 16 inch. So I dive in and grab it, then sort through the rest. It's the last one.

I call my wife to see if she needs it; no answer. I decide I best get it anyway.

So with Junie in hand I round the corner, planning to grab some bread and hit the cheese isle and get out of there. I should note, that I am without a cart, that's also important.

Because I can hear behind me two woman stalking me! They are openly planning to grab the Squishmallow if I put her down anywhere. They follow me to bread isle, they follow me to the cheese cooler, they follow me to the canned meats! (still no Spam at our location!) They even follow me to the self check out.

And I can still hear them plotting. Juggling my items, I drop my wallet but not Junie and manage to pay and get out.

And one of the women follow me to my car. But I lock up my Squishmallow and drive straight home. I don't risk running any other errands.

I get home and find my wife asleep in bed suffering from a migraine. So I gently place the new Junie in bed with her.

She wakes up a while later, oh so happy that her online order from Costco had arrived early.

...the end?

Ok so Squidley actually looks younger every time we see a picture of her, right? Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me? Like, do we have a Benjamin Button situation going on here? Maybe a Dorian Grey situation? Am I the only one who sees this?
Judging from the way @HCGLNS keeps looking older I think she's draining the life force out of him one stuffed animal at a time :p

I am her Dorian Grey potrait.

Was about to say, Mr and Mrs Grey over here.

Also, is that like a little hat making kit thing? The end result is really good.

@Squidleybits If I were to pull you over today, I would probably think you had a fake ID and would 100% go and check it immediately. (You probably get tired of hearing that kind of stuff, ha ha ha)

I’d been worried because the university recently sent an email forbidding us from feeding the campus cats. My department chair is sympathetic but he warned me that some admin were looking for me to make a mistake. I was planning on feeding Daisy and her two friends in secret, like sneaking food to Anne Frank’s family.

At the faculty senate meeting today, I voiced my concerns and proposed setting up a program to coordinate between faculty, students, and volunteers to feed and care for the cats. They thought it was a great idea. Some of them feed the cats regardless. Even the Dean of Agriculture wants in on it.

The campus cats will be protected.

@bhamv3 sent me a bag of magical potato chips that brings good luck to all that it touches for Christmas. So I have kept it on top of my new printer that I also got for Christmas and nothing bad has happened to it.

The cats knocked the chips off the printer this week and WHAMMO! SHACLACKY! Problems with the printer all week!

THAT JUST HAPPENED!

I think you're supposed to eat those.

...the chips, not the cats.
Actually... no, you're not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuai_Kuai_culture

According to the prevailing culture, one must be aware of not only the color difference but also the expiration date. It is important to not place expired Kuai Kuai; expired products must be replaced immediately.[27] People must also check the bags for signs of damage, lest the food inside be consumed by cockroaches or mice.[10] Importantly, no one is permitted to open and eat snacks adorning machines themselves or haphazardly replace them. News reports in Taiwan have placed the blame for some accidents on improper Kuai Kuai usage.[29][30][31][32]
(I didn't know this either until my wife pointed it out to me recently. I also thought you could eat the chips and just use the packaging for good luck.)

Inspired by the likes of @ThatNickGuy and @Tinwhistler , I wrote a novel this summer. 125,000 words in the bag. I've edited it twice and now my wife is the first person to start reading it for a general vibe check. Nothing may ever come of it. I wrote it for me and to see that I could do it. I did it!
90% of the battle is finishing that first draft.
Then, 90% of the battle is editing.
After that, 90% of the the battle is the crippling anxiety when people start reading it.
After that, if you publish it, 90% of the battle is marketing.
Then, 90% of the battle is not putting critics on blast when someone inevitably doesn't like your work.

I know that's more than 100%. That's just how writing works.

I don't know what 90% of the battle of 'success' is. :) I sold a fair number of books, but I didn't end up making it into some kind of career. If you want that metric, you'll have to see if Hailey Knight ever comes back to the forums.

This is 450% how it feels.

A few weeks ago I received a letter about the upcoming final deadline for the "Fresh Start" program, which is suppose to help people whose student loans have fallen into default get back into good standing and set up a repayment plan that's affordable to them.

I haven't paid my loans from my Bachelor's in almost 15 years. They were wanting me to pay so much per month that I wouldn't have been able to afford to live. And this kept happening with each subsequent collection agency that took over my loans, none were willing to work with me. One eventually started garnishing my wages, but that only lasted a few months before my state made it illegal for people under a certain wage bracket. My loans passed through so many hands, I eventually lost track of who owned it. Then I tried going to Heald College to become a paralegal, took out more loans to attend there. Then the whole Corinthian Colleges scandal hit, and my school was closed with only 10 weeks left for me to complete my degree. Kept receiving emails that my loans there would be forgiven, but then assholes in Congress kept blocking it, and I just gave up and accepted whatever fate would come.

So after I finish creating my account on the government loan website, I log in and prepare to wince at the total amounts I would see after years of interest on my unpaid loans . . .

. . . only to see "$0" amounts on all of them. And a status at the top that said all of them had been written off due to "Closed School Discharge". Even the loan from my Bachelor's.

I have no student loan debts anymore.

I wanna cry.
