Got the wedding band today :)
I thought you were already married. Am I just insane or is there more significance to the rings?
I was married.
I divorced my wife, June 08, which I briefly alluded to on HP on the "books you are reading now" thread..("How to do your own divorce in Texas")
I asked my girlfriend to marry me on Valentines day--I made a big thread about how I cooked her dinner, played her some norah jones, and stuff. That thread has disappeared somewhere (seriously, the entire thread is completely missing from the forum), but my epic win post about it is here: viewtopic.php?p=78149#p78149

So, the ring with the three big rocks is the engagement ring. The ring with more rocks is the wedding ring. We aren't married yet, but we're slowly gathering all of the necessary 'stuff'. We got her ring in yesterday. Thus the pic.

She just wore the ring for the picture..I've since confiscated it until the wedding

(I posted the wedding announcement on another phpBB message board I frequent also, so I figured I'd revive that post for posterity here, since the actual thread about it has vanished).

So, here's an update on the surprise engagement I planned on springing on my girlfriend tonight.

started with flowers

A fancy dinner

An aromatherapy bath

A little massage

Profit! :)

the ring looks a lot bigger on her finger than it does on mine :)

The dinner looked a lot more romantic without a camera flash brightening things up.
As mentioned, the dinner was salmon mousse stuffed portobello mushrooms with beurre blanc.

Beurre blanc is a kind of sauce made by taking shallots and white wine, and reducing it down to practically nothing, and then adding butter back until you have a rich, creamy sauce. A little goes a long way! It goes perfectly with fish, and the salmon mousse is a good pairing. Baked until springy, the mousse has a rich texture, and soaks up the sauce nicely. All on top of a huge portobello mushroom cap, to provide a solid texture and flavor to compliment and gound the meal.

I made my beurre blanc with zinfandel, because I wanted a slight pink texture to the sauce to help keep in the Valentine's Day theme. You can't see it as much in the picture, but the sauce was slightly pink and the shallots took on an awesome reddish-pink color.

Served on the side is a cauliflower champ, similar to an Irish champ, but with cauliflower used in place of potatoes. A blend of white cheeses helps bring the texture together and provides a rich addition to the dish.

The salad is a mix of spring greens, with bites of fruit and vegetables. Small bits of dehydrated (but not dried!) apples, currants, and mangoes contrast nicely with the homemade red cider vinaigrette.

The wine is the same zinfandel that I used for the beurre blanc, so it paired perfectly with the meal.

Played her Come Away With Me, by Norah Jones...perfect mood setter :)

I don't make it out to events as much these days, but I was determined to go to Marlee Matlin's reading at Vroman's in Pasadena, one of my favorite bookstores. You guys know I've been in the deaf community in L.A. for a few years now so I was very excited to see her. I ran into some people from my old work I haven't seen in forever -- including a boss from way back -- and met some new friends.

Marlee is gorgeous in person and was charming and funny, and when I got to talk to her I introduced myself as ZenMonkey (since she responded to me once on Twitter, I thought maybe she'd remember, and she did). :D I have a not-unusual amount of low self-esteem when it comes to my own signing, but dammit, I signed with Marlee Matlin and it was awesome.

And now she's following me on Twitter! :aaahhh:

Here's a crappy-quality camera pic, but I like how her hands are blurred.

I know this is a total starfucker type of post, and I don't usually get like this (), but it was the combination of a lot of things that made the event so great for me. Including that Mr. ZM took the day off so he could drive me there.

 It's been peeing since my pee standing up/pee sitting down thread.

Had a good time in Dallas, but glad to be home. As much as I love anime cons, I feel strange when I go. I'm not into cosplaying, those weird Lolita clothes, Dollfies (creeeeepy), stuffing myself into corsets (as broad-daylight clothing, anyway), LARPing, drawing, or decorative weapons... a lot of what they incorporate into these cons. So I feel very average and out of place even though I enjoy myself. It feels like the interest in some types of Japanese animation is just a smaller than others'. I don't really look like part of the subculture... but it sure is a great con. Hilarious improv show and great Robotech panels. That marketing dude (forget his name) is so enthusiastic. And it was cool to meet Chibibar in person. ^_^

Road trips with the fellow are always great. We laugh all the way there and back.

And when I walked in an hour or so ago, my brother was holding a new (used, but very nicely worn in) ukulele that's better quality. It's a more mellow sound, and it's much easier to strum. I learned 5 songs this weekend.

Man I'm tired, but what a wonderful time. I got a portrait of myself as a robot.

To both of these, there can be only one answer. PICS OR IT.... :whistling:
I was gonna scan the picture or something tomorrow. It's cute. It's me as a robot playing a ukulele as the music floats into the heads of tiny robot students... very cute! And the artist was really friendly and hilarious. I also have pics and videos........ all rated G, Mr. Bubs. :p

Whoa, what the *? Is your avatar PEEING?
Yes! Yes it is!

I keep meaning to change it back, but he's been holding it for months now, and, well, there's still some left...

Just keep in mind that if you post below me you may end up needing another shower. The hardhat was a good idea, though.

The question mark is self-explanatory too.

However, the open mouth and thumbs up are pretty disturbing...

Fixed my camera lens yesterday! Woo!

It's just the cheap kit lens that came with it, but I really don't have the money to buy a new lens, and being camera-less was painful when we had lots of family around over the weekend!

Taking it apart was fun, but getting it fixed, put all back together, and finding that it all works was awesome!

I just billed 4 grand on a side project I've been working on the last 3 weeks or so. I should see the money just in time for all of the kids to go to their respective non-custodial parents' houses for a month in july.

It's going to be a nice summer :D

Just reinstalled original XP on my PC...Started from 0 with no drivers. I managed to find motherboard drivers I needed and network drivers I needed (which are the hardest two; after all, you need these to get on the 'net to find the rest :p), everything works as it should. Yay!
Except I don't have any sound -_-

Unless you have a specific sound card, http://www.realtek.com.tw/. Good luck. I hate reinstalling sound drivers after an XP install.

Graduation is Sunday! And I'm going out with my friends Saturday night to celebrate. Good weekend all around. :D

Just got my package from the university i will be teaching at... it's really freaking exciting. I have to choose my textbook for my class and work up my syllabus.
I know it's no big deal to those who have done it a ton but it's really cool to be doing this for the first time...

I used to have one, but I left it with an ex and she dumped me and moved before I could get it back. It was my favorite jacket ever. :waah:

I have one. Got it at a thrift store (from a HUGE rack FULL of them) for a dollar. That's right. A dollah.

:ugeek: Very nice. I love professors who look the part. A lot of them go out of their way NOT to somehow.. but I have fun in a classroom listening to a dude with a long, philosopher-y beard, nice coat, maybe a pipe in his pocket... retelling some personal story about his douchebag brother-in-law that may or may not relate to the literature we were supposed to read. This cute, tiny glasses are also cool.

You know, every time I come across that shot of him with his glasses on in the "Your Picture" threads, I think to myself "How is it I've gotten to this point of my life without someone taking a glamor shot of me looking all bad-ass?", and then I go pout. :humph:

You should take one and then post it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Make it so!
I got glamour shots of me taken back in 11th grade but they aren't nearly as sexy or badass as Espy's.

Thats no glamour shot bitches, that's just me, a camera and a windy day.

Fun fact: I had no pants on.
