I'm going to Disney World!

Yes, really. I'm leaving on Saturday, early, to go with my family. I might be too busy packing tomorrow to post. I'll be gone 9 days, and won't be checking the forums while I'm gone. I don't own a laptop.

I'm so excited. I haven't been in nearly 13 years. My screen name is, in part, inspired by Figment the Dragon from EPCOT's Journey Into Imagination. (It's also due to the fact that I have some friends who at one point thought I didn't exist, and was just a story made up by other mutual friends.)
My cousins are going to Disney world next week as well. If you see three adorable little blonde kids, ages 5, 3, and 1, it might be them, so tell them that Sam says hi and creep them the hell out

I'm going to Disneyworld too :-D Two weeks in Orlando, Florida, in January. Yay!

Also, nice ukelele :)

Also, crushing atoms sounds cool.

Also, I won a bar fight yesterday. Whoo! Ok, I hate barfights, but hey, at least I won :-P

Finished Chapter Thirteen of my story, and breached the magic 40,000-word mark. Whew.

Just signed for a new flat!

Of course, I don't have a job to pay for it yet, but it'll come.

I just feel so proud. The fellow and I were hanging last night--him playing Mega Man and me playing my ukulele... and I got through an entire song! I didn't move effortlessly from chord to chord, but damnit, I got through it without having to stop and give my poor fingers a rest. I'm so happy! This is definitely filling a void I've been feeling. I'm just so happy!

"What a Wonderful World," consider yourself partially mastered.... now to improve my tone and start learning to change chords without referring to a sheet!

If you can learn to play Dr. Wiley's Theme on the ukulele, I will send you $50.

:uhhuh:

Congrats. :)

Woo, first and hardest final done. Felt like spending all last week studying paid off.

Soon, go off and play catch up with people I haven't seen in a while. Here's hoping that this time, nobody throws an all-in-one remote at me.

Back from Nashville and Chicago. Had a wonderful time driving with the gf through 7 states and collecting their roadmaps from the welcome stations. Saw the Grand Ol' Opry, The Country Music Hall of Fame, RCA Studio B, The Brookfield Zoo, The Field Museum, Soldier Field (Da Bears), The St Louis Arch, and tons of pretty roadside. Visit with my mom leads to approval of said gf. All in all, I'm feeling pretty good.

(and glad to be out of Chicago traffic. Good lord, people need to learn to drive and fix the roads.)

I haven't felt this good about myself in a year or so. I'm actively working my ass off to find a job, I'm getting along with the new people I've met out here, got the balls to ask out a girl I've gotten to know a little lately (haven't heard back from her yet, but regardless of the answer I tried for once), and all in all feel like I'm finally shedding the whole "woe-is-me" bullshit I've put myself through over the past 4 or 5 years.

Way to go man! I know how good shrugging that feeling off your back can be as I've had to do that to myself last year and I'm all the happier for it.

Thanks. :zoid:

It really does feel good. I even thought about an ex today, and normally that starts the whole chain reaction, but instead I gave it a meh and went on with my day.

Worked out for ten minutes today. I know this sounds more like fucktarded win, but today it happened to be epic.

Today the Fellow and I have been together for 6 years. We haven't been able to see each other on the actual day in a long while. Well today I get out of the shower and Jake's calling. We talk, I ask him what he's doing, he says he's at the store. After a few more minutes of chatting, I hear a knock on my door. There he is with pink carnations. :)

I didn't have a lot of time, because I had to work at 5. But he bought me a mocha and a croissant and we talked outside. It was a beautiful day... I fed the finches who always chill out outside the coffee house, and then we said farewell til Friday. It was brief, but for the first time in a long time we saw each other on our anniversary. ^_^ And it was wonderful.

Woo! My website is back up to a pagerank of 4! I was 3 for so long.

Sadly, it's not going to make much of a difference for the google ads income. Gone are the heady days when my simple site was making $200+ per month. Now I'm only getting $25-$40/mo.

Of course, if I actually put information up there on a regular basis it might attract more attention, but oh well. At least it pays for its own hosting.

So far.

And you're not giving us a link why? It's a NSFW thing, isn't it?

Just got back from writing my Travel Writing exam. I've been doing extraordinarily well in the course (A on the mid-term and first essay, definitely getting full participation marks), but I've been so busy with three essays that I hadn't studied for it at all. I figured I was going to do terrible. And...well, I'm going to pass it, at least. Doesn't help that the exam started at 8:30 in the morning. Ugh.

Anyway, the epic win? Last week, I wrote the 2,500 word final essay for the course. At this point in the year, especially after the two-month strike earlier in the school year, I wanted to just get it done and over with. So, it was a "first draft and done" kind of deal that took me all day to labourously write.

The mark that I recieved? An A.

I don't know how the hell I managed that, but man, it's going to be a saving grace after that exam.

I went in looking for one of those floppy summer hats. You know, like Depp in Fear and Loathing in LV, or like Kisuke Urahara. Anyway, I have a giant head, so out of the measly selection of hats like that at Academy (I really didn't know where else to look) none really fit. XL was kind of tight, and I couldn't find any XXL.

but there, out of the corner of my eye
on the clearance rack
was an Indiana Jones-esque fedora.
no tags
XXL
only one
I asked the nearest employee how much it costs, expecting like 25-35 bucks (it was nice wool)
2 dollars
because it was winter clearance
I scored a sweet fedora for 2 bucks
I think when I saw it out of the corner of my eye, it had that light from above on it, and I could hear that angelic chorus

I finished the week with a fairly epic result in an experiment we've been building up to for a month or so. It garnered a fabled "Let's get a beer to celebrate!" from the company owners. It will have to wait till Tuesday, but that's also my birthday, so double win!

I had a most epic floppy hat that I found in a little shop on the Oregon coast after much searching. I lost it a couple years ago and am still heartbroken. I also suffer from monster head-ism (as well as cheap bastard-ism), which makes it tough.

You've diminished my win, you bastard! :waah:

I'll be 'measuring the inherent noise in DNA mollecules' with optical tweezwers. How does that sound to you?
Sounds superficially similar to my dissertation work. I was mainly measuring the high-frequency motions of atomic groups in DNA (using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) and relating that to base sequence, mismatches, carcinogen damage, etc.

Leaving for a two week trip back to Ontario on Wednesday and I couldn't be more excited. I'll be flying out and spending the majority of the time in Toronto visiting a few of my very best friends that I grew up with who I haven't gotten to see since late last summer. After that I'll be taking the train to my hometown to visit my Dad, my younger sister, a few friends and the real reason I'm looking forward to going there, my dog Jax, who I had to leave back with my Dad when I decided to move out here.

Can't wait!

2 seasons in Chicago - winter and construction. Seriously... can't think of a time I've been to Chicago that there wasn't a major stretch of freeway being majorly worked on. What really hurts is when there's construction before you hit Chicago. I usually hit it north of Indy and/or outside of Gary :finger: .

As for traffic - yerp.. if yer doing the speed limit... yer gonna get run the fuck over. But that's nothing. Go try driving in Boston. Never had seen people cross 5 lanes of traffic to hit an exit like they do up there.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Tomorrow! To-freaking-morrow is going to be the beginning of awesomeness! The second I get off work, I'm meeting the Fellow at the store in my hometown. We're gonna get some stuff for our travelin' cooler, then we're gonna head back to my folks' house, watch the UFC fight (I taped the one from last weekend), then go to bed and in the morning we're going to Dallas! FINALLY! I have been waiting for this convention forever! Gleeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm going to do EVERYTHING, and we finally had enough scratch to stay someplace that isn't crappy! *hops up and down* I'm just so excited!

Oh, and I memorized "What a wonderful world." :D I'm printing out more songs to take to Texas.

:unibrow:

Nah, it's just electronics stuff (geek porn? Naked circuits?) - I didn't link it partly because I didn't want to toot my own horn that much, and partly because few of you would be interested in it. http://www.ubasics.com for the suitably curious. I also did http://www.ubasics.com/dighole/ which gets hit occasionally with a link on some biggish site (not digg, but stumblupon and a few others, especially in europe) but makes almost no money. It's fun to see it suddenly get 40k+ hits in a day though.

Oop you just scared one away. She thought you were one of the many men who hang out around the all-girl dorms waiting to force-feed their daughters jello shots and lure them away to frat houses for shady sex acts. Seriously, this job is getting interesting.... :eyeroll:
