It's not that their coffee doesn't have flavor, but it's from the often harsh roasting sbucks does, rather than from the bean. Which is what you do with beans that don't have great flavor to begin with. Keep in mind, I'm not saying that it tastes bad, it tastes "normal" to most folks and i think its about the best chain coffee you can get. Good coffee beans actually have some really phenomenal and complex flavors, not unlike wine.
That being said, it took me a long time before I started like more complex coffees. They tasted really weird to me at first. Now I can't get enough of them. I still like a good dark roast and I'll drink sbucks when I'm on the road. It's consistent and it's decent. Just not their espresso.
