Ah say y'all be friggin' stoopid! Git off mah land boay, ah know maaaah hockey an' mah opinion is import TANT! GAWD BLESS AMERICAAAAWWW

And I thought it was unclassy when they basically drowned out Bettman after handing over the Connie and Lord Stanley.
There's never a wrong reason to boo Bettman.

Also, in case Jay was wondering, I wasn't mad about my future sister-in-law getting tear gassed. I knew she would be fine, she's a tough girl. She should have bolted at the first sign of that crap.

It's really rather sad that the accomplishments of both teams and players are now gone from the media and we are left talking about the least of society.

Congrats to the Bruins for winning the Cup!
Well done Tim Tomas, oldest Con Smythe trophy winner in history.
Thanks for all the memories Mark Recchi!
Looking forward to seeing Marchand parade the cup around Halifax!

I was thinkin' that too. The stories about the game and about the cup run are all buried under the stories of the riots.
2 things,

1. I really don't like that the Reuters Articles all mention Boston in the headline. Like "Boston's Victory Marred By Violence" Just make the headline about Vancouver. Boston did not really have anything to do with the riot.

2. Every LA Laker NBA Championship over the last 12 or so years have been marred by the violence that happened after they won. I felt like Kobe should do his civic duty and throw the championship just to save LA the millions of dollars needed for the clean-up.

She should have bolted at the first sign of that crap.
Not blaming your sister at all but let me tell you if most people NOT involved in the riot would leave at LEAST 80% of people would leave, causing a lot of issue for the rioters as they are incredibly easy to find and subdue. In fact, they'll probably leave as well as they have no where to hide within a crowd.

I played Assassin's Creed and this is my opinion.

This is why I feel the cops should warn people a fixed number of times and then start to disperse the crowd with stronger methods. As someone who loves the sport and loves his city I cannot abide for this bullshit.

When the riots happened in MTL a few years back a personal friend put facebook pictures up him at the event and doing classless shit. I saved everything and took printscreens of the comments. The next day I sent an email to my friend (who's also a client, remember I work in the security field) at the SPVM and sent him the data package.

My friend got picked up by the police who knocked at his door 2 days later.

He was charged and convicted and spent 4 months in jail, directly because of me and he never found out.

I unfriended him soon afterwards.

I would do it again.

In 09 when the hurricanes lost the Eastern Conference Finals, many fans stayed and cheered to congratulate the Pens.

...and I thought LeBron was classless with his remarks when the Heat lost.

This year I was in attendance when the Houston Aeros lost game 7 of the Calder Cup Finals, and I stayed and cheered the champions, bla bla bla. Even though it really sucked and I was super depressed afterwards.

Also, for the record, Gary Bettman deserves to be booed at every opportunity. He's a shitty commish.

I agree with the statements on people leaving. I've never had to do any sort of riot duty (this town is small and stupid) and I dread the day I would be called on to do so.

It's funny. Before the game, there were tonnes of jokes on my Facebook feed from Vancouverites saying "Hey, looters, pick me up an Ipad while you're out there."

Not so many jokes now.

I have to agree with Jay. Even the people taking pictures/video are part of the problem. Just leave, it's not hard to get out of Vancouver. If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Standing by (and cheering) the rioters may not make you culpable for the damage done, but it certainly makes you an idiot.

The one that got me was this morning on the news, one of the political commentators from later in the day's programming said we needed to "give the rioters a break" because "if this was a tyrannical society we'd be cheering on the rioters and calling this Canadian Spring." No we wouldn't. This is a bunch of stupid, drunk, 20-something sports fans who are pissed because their team lost. If it were Iran and a bunch of morons were rioting because their sports team lost a championship, we wouldn't be cheering them on.

I'm sure the businesses that were looted and the property owners who's things were ruined agree, BREAKS FOR EVERYONE!

All I'm reading are reports that police weren't brutal enough.

WHICH IS IT PUBLIC AT LARGE?

WHO DO YOU WANT TO SHOW UP?

Where is the magic line the media and the public want the police to walk?

More tear gas! More batons! BLEEEAARRGGGHHHH!!!!!

:D

Personally... in riot situations (especially over bullshit like this)... I'm all for the police using everything they've got to disperse the crowds.

If they had today there would be a public outcry and headlines like: Police Brutally Savage Brave Party Goers Just Out for a Good Time.

We want you to look the other way as costumed vigilantes kick the rioter asses 8 ways from Sunday.

Then say "Sorry guys. Don't start nuthin', won't be nuthin.".

This wasn't disappointed hockey fans. This was preplanned. Hockey fans don't bring balaclavas, bricks, and molotov cocktails to the game.

I agree with everything said here except it being easy to get out of Vancouver, at least last night anyway. Soon after the trouble started the skytrains, buses and bridges out were closed with only the skytrains coming back up later in the evening. In no way do I condone what happened though at all.

Pretty much this.

I've never seen so many crowbars in my life beyond watching Mad Max and playing System Shock 2.

That sounds a bit like the Battle of Seattle. I made a complaint about how the riot was planned and a fellow teacher jumped down my throat, saying it was the Police Brutality that set the riot off. Then I asked her where they got the bricks, crowbars, Molotov Cocktail Launchers and masks.

I don't have a problem with this.

And after careful consideration, I have to say I really don't have a problem with you... sir.

However, I reserve the right to call you an asshole when situations warrant. And when it's funny. :awesome:

(BTW, I'm not Korean.)

No, because they'd be dead.
Exactly. But even if it were someplace less likely to result in immediate death, the point remains. If this were a riot about government austerity measures and disappearing freedoms, or 40 or 50 years of dictatorship concealed as democracy, then yes, they'd probably be getting some support right now. As it is, these are just a bunch of anarchist fuckwads who decided to take advantage of a crowded night. I wouldn't support a bunch of anarchist fuckwads in Iran, Syria, China, the UK, Ireland, etc., and I won't support them in Vancouver either.

Disconnected

It's easy to get out of vancouver. It's not easy to get to the north shore though.

I hope they throw the book at these punk pieces of shit. Make an example of them so people might think twice next time before destroying things for no reason.
