Timmus

The old thread got locked so I thought I'd restart the hockey discussion.

Canucks had a phenomenal December and are as deep a team as I have ever seen them be.

If they continue to play like they have been they could be first in the conference if not the league.

I don't mean to gloat when I ask:

How is everyone feeling about their chosen team at this point in the season?

If it's any consolation the leafs are still doing worse than them.
Sens have a guy from my hometown playing on their farm team right now. I might follow them a little more closely if and when he cracks the lineup.

The scary thing about the Canucks is that their back up goalie is better than their starter, thus giving the rest of the team absolute confidence in the back end.

As for the Leafs, I really just want to bury every single reporter that reports about them in a fire ant hill. It's hard enough to field a skilled team that can compete without having to compete with the media's garbage every day.

Yeah Schneider has been playing great for the Canucks. As a fan it's nice to not have to worry about who's playing net on a given night.

As for the media I think you'll find that they are fit to be eaten alive by insects in any Canadian NHL city. Best to ignore them and enjoy watching your team.

#11

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

Yes, but the press in Toronto is far and above the worst in the league to the point where they can affect the play of the players.

WTF Boston? How did you lose tonight?

#12

Timmus

Timmus

I don't really have too much exposure to the Toronto media environment. Who are they psyching out and how are they doing it?

#13

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

Well this week saw a blockbuster trade between New Jersey and Dallas. Not a friggin peep on any of the TO media outlets about it. What did they talk about at the start of the week? That Versteeg and Beachemin are soon to be traded, nay they must be traded. Both players have a decent start of the week and they stop talking about them, so they move on to trading Gustavson because Reimer has played ok in the whole two games he has ever played in the NHL. Two games! Then after the shellacking the Leafs gave to Atlantic on Friday, they immediately ask about trading Grabovski, because they figure since he is on a fantastic run right now, they might never get a better offer for him. Seriously, who else would suggest that the reward for success is to be traded? Imagine if the Vancouver press suggested trading Luongo after he won the gold medal or Henrik Sedin after he won the scoring title?

#14

I think there are fans of 30 teams that would like to have this statement to be true.

Especially come April/May/June.

#15

29 teams. The Hurricanes can't seem to keep a consistent line (or defensive pairing). Healthy or Injured.

#16

jwhouk

Well, I'd be lying if I didn't believe the same thing with the Preds. No-neck doesn't believe in keeping a line together for longer than 30 seconds.

#17

Vrii

I'd be happy if Ottawa had more than one player capable of first-line numbers for more than a game or two at a time.

Oh, and if he wasn't hurt. So I guess it's really the same thing.

#18

Covar

Covar

So the All-Stars are announced, as are the uniforms for the game. You can even buy one of those sweaters now! Just one problem: no one knows what player will be on what team until Jan 28th.

#19

Timmus

Timmus

Maybe they all wear the same uniform game day and one of the teams has to wear pinnies or something.

#20

jwhouk

jwhouk

I suspect they're going to issue one white and one dark for every player, and whatever team they end up on will be how they determine what sweater they'll wear.

You'll pardon if I don't say anything. My boys have been on a roller coaster ride over the last month and a half (five wins, five losses, six wins). I'm not sure if they're the worst bunch of players in the world or if they could beat the '57 Habs in their skivvies.

Okay, I get it - it's like picking out sides on the pond. I guess even the guy for the Raleigh Observer would like to see this spread to other sports.

Only one problem: have any of these athletes EVER played a pickup game where they just chose up sides and played? In baseball, I'm almost betting they haven't. Sandlot baseball games went out the window (at least for most US/Canadian players) back in the 1980's.

#44

checkeredhat

See the problem with that is that you paid attention to the all star game. Whose bright idea was it to have it the same weekend as the NFL pro-bowl?
I don't see a problem with that at all. I don't think I could possibly care less about the NFL. I care even less about the NFL than I do for the CFL, which is already very little.

#45

Covar

Covar

See the problem with that is that you paid attention to the all star game. Whose bright idea was it to have it the same weekend as the NFL pro-bowl?
who watches the pro-bowl? That game is even less relevant than a college bowl.

#46

jwhouk

jwhouk

Of all four major league all-star games, the Pro Bowl is the most useless, impracticable and least interesting game of all. It's not even in the same worth-your-while level as the other three games (though I think the NBA ASG is slowly declining towards that point).

#47

checkeredhat

checkeredhat

I had to ask a friend of mine what the pro-bowl was, she informed it is American football's most boring game, because all the players are too afraid of injuring themselves before the superbowl to really play. Is that about right?

#48

Something like that. Imagine if they had a football all-star game the week before the Grey Cup - involving stars from all of the teams not playing in the Grey Cup.

That was right even when it was held after the Super Bowl. The game sucks.

It's not just injury concerns. Even with top level athletes Football isn't a game where you can put a team together in a week and expect high level results.

#51

#52

That's my point. The NHL needs to grow in the States and having a battle of two irrelevant games (the NHL being far more irrelevant) on the same day makes no sense.

One of these years I want a defenseman to just say "Fuck it." and flatten someone during the all star game.

#53

checkeredhat

Then you changed your point. Your initial point was :

Oh, and the CMoA of the night - intermission band. Small Time Rock Stars, a popular cover band in the Music City, were joined by some season ticket holder. Vince something. Oh, and he had a golfing buddy of him there from Phoenix, too. Funny, he didn't look like an "Alice".

#65

Oh Nashville what were you thinking? You got Mike Fisher for a 2011 1st round pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick in 2012? And you called him a top 6 forward? He's top 6 only for teams that are bottom 6 not for play-off bound teams like yourself.

But we all knew this trade was coming, it was just a question of when and for how much.

Pens finished the game with 7 players on the bench.
Mario's pretty pissed about the ref's allowing this to go down.

"Hockey is a tough, physical game, and it always should be," the Penguins owner and Hall of Famer said in a statement released by the team. "But what happened Friday night on Long Island wasn't hockey. It was a travesty. It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that.
"The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed."

#85

Jay

Jay

Figured as much. Habs went through a similar ordeal a few days before this.

Odds are, when the Islanders saw that the Bruins got away with murder they opened up a case of whoopass on their rivals. They had NOTHING to lose anyways.

#86

#88

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

He has a valid point, that game is not what the NHL is trying to sell today. That game will get more attention than any other game for a good long time and that's a regression of their marketing strategy and not good for the game.

#89

Vrii

Vrii

"If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to rethink whether I want to be a part of it."

That's the part of the quote that really reads like a pouting child, to me. And coming from the (co)owner of the team paying Matt Cooke, who throws worse hits with more blatant attempt to injure on a regular basis.

#90

Jay

Jay

Lemieux's tantrum certainly could have used a little self-flagellation over his own dirty team and, in particular, the antics over the past few years of Pittsburgh's serial offender, Matt Cooke. But simply to dismiss the Penguins owner as a hypocrite is too easy, too convenient for those who use ridicule to butt-end every mouth that opens against violence in hockey.

The man is respected in the league and his opinion matters. The Pens finished the fucken game with 7 players on the bench. There was a problem with the way the game was handled, as they could have slapped a 5 or 10 minute long powerplay after the dirty hits but they didn't. They could have suspended players for far more than 4 or 9 games as they CLEARLY intended to injury, the act of what the Islanders were doing was flagrant. Godard got 10 games for jumping on the ice when an Islander player went after their goalie after he was removed from another fight on the ice. This is a clear indication that the game went out of hand and that player should have gotten suspended as well. Did he? No.

In the end, the league weren't harsh enough and didn't pass a message.

Fighting is part of the sport. Throwing your gloves for the the whole game distracts from the game and isn't what hockey is all about.

Matt Cooke is a piece of shit and I wished he was the one who would have been on the receiving end of one of those cheap shots but seriously, Tangredi didn't do anything to deserve what he got to him. To even consider, "Well, he's Matt Cooke's teammate, he doesn't deserve any sympathy, shut up mario, matt cookie is a POS" is asinine and mentally retarded.

No offense.

So have I, and I'm sure that's what made Jay go off like he did.

As I said before, the Isles were out of line, and Gillies and Martin are probably both lucky they didn't get more. At the same time, Mario isn't really convincing anyone that he's worried about the state of the game by speaking up when his players are on the receiving end and conveniently staying quiet when they're the ones trying to knock other players' heads off from behind.

And that, in case Jay hasn't picked up on it yet, was the point I was making in the first post.

At best? 3 games.

End of season for MaxPac, for sure.

0 games for Chara. Mostly because Montreal is full of diving wussies and this is just another example.

#130

Jay

Pac dove into the glass divider and played dirty as he pretended to be hurt to get that 5 minute PP.

#131

Vrii

Vrii

Now he's pretending about his concussion and broken neck!

That said, I don't think the hit was nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be. Late hit, interference penalty, done.

#132

Jay

Jay

Intent, history, pushed into it.

In a fair world? Should be gone for the season himself as well. 0 games? You're just asking him to get shanked the next time he comes to town.

#133

Vrii

Vrii

History? You mean his zero supplementary discipline in a 13 year career?

Hard to argue intent, too. A still frame of the hit is pretty different from watching it in real time. Also not sure how you give someone a season-long suspension for a perfectly legal hit that happened to be a second or two late.

#134

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

He means between the two players.

#135

Vrii

Vrii

A little shove after a goal? I really don't think that factors into a claim of intentionally trying to end someone's career.

#136

Jay

Jay

It was enough for Chara to interrupt game celebrations and trying to take Pacs head off twice the next game they met and then finally managed to do it 2 games later.

I wish people can take their fan glasses off and see things how they are. This play is about as blatant as they come short of swinging your stick and clubbing someone into oblivion like McSorley did on Brashear.

#137

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

I actually think the McSorley hit wasn't that bad.

We'll probably see action on the Chara hit soon, Air Canada is threatening to pull sponsorship if the NHL does not clean up their act.

The one thing that seems to be sticking with me about these things, is that since they did not intend to harm the player, they do not suffer the consequences. I moving more and more towards hard set punishments for penalties, leaving the bench is already a 10 game suspension and it happens very rarely as a result. Any finding of intent to injure, suspension starts at 15 games, if the refs on the ice see fit to give you a game misconduct you are suspended for a single game as a minimum.

The sale of MLSE is actually very very bad for the NHL as a whole. The two primary buyers are communications giants and intend to use their cable franchises to broadcast the Leafs games at a loss. Not a financial loss to themselves but by selling themselves the rights at below market value. Thus in the eyes of the NHL finance committee the Leafs go from being hugely successful and a source of income sharing to the other teams, to a team that now needs revenue distributed to it.

I really don't understand how NHL teams can get insurance for their players that do not wear visors or full face protection. Had that surgery been unsuccessful, he'd be done for life and paid out on the insurers dime.

#161

Timmus

Timmus

I think the NHLPA might have some kind of disability pension...eye injury looks to be a pretty low priority for them though.

They probably pay gargantuan premiums. Visor or no this injury seems kind of like a freak thing. I have noticed any kind of catalogue of similar events or outcry about visors the way I've seen about concussions.

#162

HCGLNS

You'd think that so simple a thing as the full shield that the juniors wear be an easy way to remedy these injuries. But alas other factors are keeping it at bay.

I thought they had it when Toews got that shorty. That was unreal.

Oddly, though, I'm not really that upset. The team was gassed all year, they won the Cup last year, they made it a series and pushed what was easily the best team in the NHL this year to the very edge before losing (on what was admittedly one of the most terrible turnovers I've ever seen, and on a change to boot!).

They should be able to get something done. I have a feeling there isn't going to be a lot of pretty goals this series as long as Rinne and Luongo bring their A game.

Should be a good game tonight. I expect Nashville to have a lot of jump this game since their coach called everyone but Rinne out the last game.

I'm hoping Shane O'Brien helps his former club and takes a bonehead penalty at a crucial moment in the game otherwise I have a bad feeling Nashville takes this one.

Also, this,
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog...lling-season-tickets-1-hour-be?urn=nhl-wp6063
PD: Are you guys still accepting Thrashers season ticket deposits?
THRASHERS: We are! Where would you like to sit? How many seats are you looking for?
PD: Downstairs would be great. And just two.
THRASHERS: And what will you be using your tickets for?
PD: To watch some exciting Thrashers hockey in 2011-12.
THRASHERS: In the lower bowl, the lowest we have are $999 and they're in Sections 201-209. Do you want me to tell you the best available there?
PD: And this is for the Atlanta Thrashers' 2011-12 season?
THRASHERS: Uh-huh.
PD: Next season? In the NHL? In Atlanta?
THRASHERS: Uh-huh. Do you want me to tell you the best available tickets?
PD: Sure.
THRASHERS: We actually have some in Row A, in Section 208 and in Section 202. I would suggest Section 208, which has better angles. How does that sound?
PD: Honestly, it sounds a little fishy to me, because they're actually announcing that the team is moving to Winnipeg this morning. In, like, an hour. Are you guys aware of that?
THRASHERS: I'm not aware of it. They haven't announced anything to us yet.
PD: Huh. Yeah, so, I'm probably not going to be able to use those season tickets, if that's OK?
THRASHERS: I'm sorry, what was the purpose of this call?
PD: To find out if you guys are selling season tickets to a team that's no longer there.

That name keeps popping up. Please don't let it be that.

I think just about everyone wants it to be the Jets. Even some of the players want to wear the ol' Jets jerseys. But will it be the Manitoba Jets or the Winnipeg Jets? I guess they're trying to sell the team as Manitoba's team, not just Winnipeg's team, because that rink needs to be sold out every night in order to make the NHL any money and Winnipeg's only got, what? 700 000 people? 800 000? So they want to draw in people from the rest of Manitoba too (Which I think they could do no matter what they called the team, people are just desperate for some hockey over there).

I think that whole 'has to be sold out every night' is a crock of shit. Bettman doesn't seem to have a problem with Phoenix games being half empty, or Tampa, or Carolina, or Anaheim, or Nashville... But for some reason, Canadian teams are only viable if sold our every night. Fucking Bettman.

Not sure why they say they have to have a sell out every night without some form of expected revenue to comment against. The new team will be in tough though, they will be playing in an arena that is the smallest by far in the NHL. Though a small arena work wonders for the Alouettes.

Someone at the Star did the math on it, and itwas pretty much accurate. I think they did the math with their own estimated ticket price, and assuming the team was salary capped out. But the Winnipeg rink seats fewer people than the one in Atlanta (Though I doubt it will ever be half as empty).

That being said, yeah, its pretty clear Bettman is not happy about this. And its hilarious.

Yeah, I wasn't really rooting for anyone in particular, but I've grown sick of the Canucks' dirty plays. Now my sister and I are both making enemies on Facebook rootin' for the Bruins. Besides, Boston's got more Canadians on the team anyway.

Seeing them own the puck like this is fantastic, and is it just me or is the Boston crowd even more insane than the Vancouver one?

You've got some of the worst dregs of thug hockey play in the Bruins, and you're concerned about Canucks' dirty plays? You can't blame Bertuzzi any more, that was 7 years ago and he plays for Detroit now. Let's not forget Chara riding Pacioretty into the turnbuckle (Which fractured one of his vertebrae). Or Paille's hit on Sawada back in February (which echoed Rome's hit pretty closely, with the same 4 game punishment)

Yet its the Canucks who so far in this series have done the biting, the illegal hits, and the many, many dives.

I don't intend to defend the Bruins. I know Chara's history, and I know Boston's reputation. But in this series, they've been playing a cleaner game. I'd rather a team full of Canucks playing a clean game take the cup than a team called the Canucks playing a dirty one.

And I can already hear the argument "Sure, but how do you think they got to the finals in the first place?" Fair enough, but its not like there's a third team to pick, and that doesn't change the Canucks' behaviour. The Canucks themselves have gotten where they are playing a dirty game as well, and by getting some lucky calls in their favour. Subjective officiating is unfortunately part of the game, and until the NHL starts actually enforcing their rules, dirty plays have their place too.

Don't mistake me for some blind Boston Bruins loyalist. I'm not a fan of any one team, I just want to see a good game. That's hard to get nowadays. If the Canucks change their game, maybe I'll be convinced to cheer on the "Canadian" team.

Added at: 22:22
I do feel bad for Lou though. Great goalie, despite the performance last night.
He really should have been pulled. Keeping him in net there was just completely unfair to him, and didn't do him or the Canucks' morale any favours. He was so shaken up and suddenly full of doubt he was stopping pucks and actually checking behind him to see if he had let them through.

#242

Adam

Adammon

Oh god, the biting. C'mere checkeredhat, I'm going to stuff my fingers which are encased in thick rubber in your mouth. What are you going to do? You bite. If you don't want to get bitten, you don't put purposely put your fingers inside someone else's mouth with intent to injure. I'm getting pretty tired of seeing even the Bruins coach commenting on the biting. And the taunting of Burrows by sticking their fingers in his face is not exactly helping.

Maybe it's just the Bruins and the Canucks matchup, but it's definitely an uglier series than all the previous ones combined. The Canucks played a pretty clean game the first period last night - it obviously didn't last.

As for Luongo being a great goalie, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. (I think he's a complete flake.)

On this, we agree. I can't help but wonder what (if any) kind of coverage this is getting in the US. These kinds of displays are not exactly great for expanding the fanbase and shaking off the negative hockey stereotypes some have.

Luongo definitely has a flakey tendency. He just doesn't seem to have the head for when the pressure is really on. But his stats don't lie, when he's on, he's ON.

The hit? Solid hockey play. Stop admiring your pass IMO and look at the guy coming as the hit was a clear north/south hit. If he didn't get hurt no one would have given a shit.

And the fact that the BRUINS get a very favorable call once again reveals the league's hard on for them.

No, I should have though. It was REALLY close. Also tonight I found out that the guy who did win, shouldn't have, because he declared his Secret Objective outside of the objective phase. I needed 3 victory points, I had completed the public objective on the board (+1), and was next in line for the Imperial strategy(+2), so would have won immediately on my next turn. First time playing it. Fun game.

Sorry, not gonna feel sorry for them. In the long run, as nice as the Cup is, and as much as it means to people in the hockey world - it's still just a game. I've been in those same shoes before, and I don't particularly remember those of us in Milwaukee rioting when the Hershey Bears were skating around on our ice with the Calder Cup. 2 things,

1. I really don't like that the Reuters Articles all mention Boston in the headline. Like "Boston's Victory Marred By Violence" Just make the headline about Vancouver. Boston did not really have anything to do with the riot.

2. Every LA Laker NBA Championship over the last 12 or so years have been marred by the violence that happened after they won. I felt like Kobe should do his civic duty and throw the championship just to save LA the millions of dollars needed for the clean-up.

Not blaming your sister at all but let me tell you if most people NOT involved in the riot would leave at LEAST 80% of people would leave, causing a lot of issue for the rioters as they are incredibly easy to find and subdue. In fact, they'll probably leave as well as they have no where to hide within a crowd.

I played Assassin's Creed and this is my opinion.

A couple of final comments about the rioting and boorish behavior of VAN fans: First, it was painfully obvious that the rioting had nothing to do with the game. Part of me wonders if SE BC has a gang problem of some sort, since this strikes me as not only something organized, but something that has been sustained.

Second, it's one thing to boo Bettman (sorry, my people in Nashville couldn't bring themselves to do it, I'd think; he actually did more to make sure we stayed in Nashville than anyone else, save the current ownership group), but it's another thing to throw bottles and trash onto the ice as the captain of the other team is lifting the Cup and skating around the ice with it.

Take a look at the presentation video, right after Chara skates off with it, about 1:30 into the clip - you'll see several things fly onto the ice in the background:

Sorry, but that's beyond classless.

<--- MOVING ON --->

The good news for the day: the Predators have filed for arbitration with our Captain, Shea Freakin' Weber. This means that we're serious about re-signing him, and that we're committed to paying him whatever it takes to keep him (since we don't have walk-away rights when it's club-filed arbitration). Bettman said he'd let them have the name.

The only reason its probably not going to happen, is because everyone in Winnipeg already has Jets jerseys. It'd severely cut the profit to be made, even if they revamped the logo most would still wear the old one. Instead, they'll have a new team name, probably with a fugly logo like all the new teams get, and then they can sell thousands of new jerseys, thus keeping the other southern teams afloat via NHL's profit sharing. Then they'll have themselves a Winter Classic type game where they wear their "vintage" Jets jerseys that will again, sell like hotcakes.
Profit.

Gunning for Brad Richards and clearing cap space. They got Brayden Schenn! What was LA thinking!
At a guess? "Hey, we can trade him for somebody who's already better than Schenn will ever be". Nevermind that this sets the Kings up to actually make a push in the playoffs - Richards and Kopitar as the top two centers is pretty solid.

#348

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

It goes against everything the Kings did this year to protect Schenn. I do not like the Bryzgalov signing, 9 years is too much.

Columbus deal was fantastic for Philly though.

#349

Vrii

Vrii

The Carter deal I was fine with - they freed up the space for Bryz, got a decent forward back, plus a good pick and an okay one. Jackets got the best player and a forward to (finally) give Nash some support. Good trade for both.

Bryz signing is absurd. The Flyers already have a good, young goalie in Bobrovsky, and signing Bryzgalov for so long - and so much money - pretty much ensures that he'll never get a realistic shot to take over; see Schneider in Vancouver.

The Richards trade just looks awful for the Flyers. Yeah, they get a highly-regarded prospect and a second/third-line forward, but they traded their captain, and someone who's miles better than either player coming back, now and in the foreseeable future. I have to imagine there were major issues with him as the captain/conflict with Pronger and/or the coach, because otherwise the trade just doesn't make sense. Particularly given that they already gained their cap space in the first trade, and that Schenn/Simmonds will make about as much combined as Richards was.

Overall, it looks like the Flyers got much, much worse today, and I don't understand it.

#350

HCGLNS

HCGLNS

Not necessarily. One of the primary changes in the new NHL is the need for overall NHL/AHL team depth. The Flyers gave up 2 players and gained 6 in return, so they have gained valuable depth. I think the days of huge trades of significant impact players are dwindling in the modern injury plagued NHL.

#351

Covar

Covar

#352

Vrii

Vrii

The Flyers gave up 2 players and gained 6 in return, so they have gained valuable depth.
They also gave up two first line quality players, and got back zero. Voracek should be a second liner, Schenn will be lucky to stick in the top 6 in his first season, and doesn't really project to be a scorer at the level of Richards and Carter, and Simmonds is a quality third line player.Who are they counting on to score goals now?

Philly's team offense dropped significantly today, and given Bryz's last couple playoffs, they look a hell of a lot less scary than they did the past couple seasons.

#353

Jay

Jay

Obviously, it is front ended for big bucks... but who would have paid anywhere as close to what they did anyways? I understand the need, Flyers always had shitty goalies but 6M a year? For 9 years (though since he's under 35 it won't matter if he retired 6-7 years into the contract).

What a terrible contract to Bryz.

And the trades were steals for Columbus and L.A. Lucky bastard, would have liked to have Carter in MTL.

NHL needs to start a reorg for 2012-13. Or at least change the division names. Its ridiculous that we have Winnipeg in the "Southeast division."

About as dumb as the Cowboys in the NFC East come to think of it.
I think they've said the current scenario is only for next year and the move is on too short notice to completely alter the schedule.

That was my impression too, I believe the schedule is already out.
Added at: 15:15
And the Cowboys stayed in the East because the other 3 teams wanted to keep the competition high. Since Arizona was in the East too (dang near on the west coast,) it was easier to let them go instead of the Cowboys.

From the rumors I heard, Richards was not well liked in the locker room.

The road whites look tolerable. And I do like what they did for the collar ("NASHVILLE" on the outside, Piano keys on the inside).

The home Yellows, however... they may make me long for the Mustards.

What an odd trade Toronto and Nashville just made. Nashville gets a defenseman who didn't find a way to contribute to the Leafs and a forward that just made he way up to the AHL. Toronto gets a defenseman who does contribute and a forward who lost the season due to injury. With a draft pick swap thrown in based upon the health of the player.

The Rangers will pay Richards $50 million in the first five years of the contract, including $24 million in the first two years, $18 million of which is structured as a signing bonus and protected against the possibility of a lockout in 2012-13.
So what is the average cap hit for this and why bother making a cap if the owners keep abusing it.

I love love love the rondel with the Jet/Maple Leaf combination in the middle. Love it. The Jets word mark is bland and uninspiring and I'm not particularly fond of the winged hockey stick one. But I'll buy a jersey tomorrow if the main logo is the rondel with the little logos on the arms.

I will not buy if it just says Jets in the goofy type.

I like it. I was worried they were going to go and do something crazy and ugly like always. This "boring" logo, I am thankful for. The best logos in the NHL are the so-called "boring" (Some might say simple, or even classic) logos of teams like Boston, Toronto, Montreal, St Louis, and Philly. This isn't nearly as iconic, but I'm glad its not as bad as the current Buffalo logo, or Anaheim, Columbus, Minnesota, Florida, etc.

But yeah, that font. I don't know.... seems too baseball-y.

#402

I don't know, their logo,(And also Florida's) seem very NFL to me. I feel like the NBA, NHL, the MLB, and the NFL each have very distinct styles, for the most part. The NHL style, to me, is as I said, based around those simple iconic designs and colours. Maybe it comes from being Canadian, and the difference in the media coverage here as compared to in the States, but it always seems to me that the NHL is pretty stubborn in the way it clings to traditions and the romanticism of its past.
The newer teams, with the newer logos, have a very distinct style in their uniforms (and in some cases, the "Ice Girls"), which it seems to me comes from a very blatant attempt to try and appeal to the NFL crowd. Its not ACTUALLY ugly, it just seems out of place to me. But to be fair, the majority of the NHL logos now seem to fall into that category, so maybe its the older style that is really out of place.

If we're talking ACTUALLY ugly logos, then we're talking about Phoenix. Yeesh.

Dude it's still early. A W is a W and maybe that's the win that gets them into the playoffs this year. As for the Jets...well last year they were the thrashers it's going to take awhile before they are actually good.

#415

checkeredhat

checkeredhat

The Leafs actually played a good game, for the first two periods. They just did what they always do and got too comfortable with the lead. The D fell apart, and although I think Reimer's good, he's not good enough to carry the team on his own if his Defensemen aren't pulling their weight.
On the flipside, what the Jets seriously need more than anything, is a more solid goaltender.
