The Carter deal I was fine with - they freed up the space for Bryz, got a decent forward back, plus a good pick and an okay one. Jackets got the best player and a forward to (finally) give Nash some support. Good trade for both.
Bryz signing is absurd. The Flyers already have a good, young goalie in Bobrovsky, and signing Bryzgalov for so long - and so much money - pretty much ensures that he'll never get a realistic shot to take over; see Schneider in Vancouver.
The Richards trade just looks awful for the Flyers. Yeah, they get a highly-regarded prospect and a second/third-line forward, but they traded their captain, and someone who's miles better than either player coming back, now and in the foreseeable future. I have to imagine there were major issues with him as the captain/conflict with Pronger and/or the coach, because otherwise the trade just doesn't make sense. Particularly given that they already gained their cap space in the first trade, and that Schenn/Simmonds will make about as much combined as Richards was.
Overall, it looks like the Flyers got much, much worse today, and I don't understand it.
