The wait between the conference final the stanley cup final is killing me. I was ten the last time the Canucks were in it.

Except they won't be the Jets. And it won't be "Winnipeg _____". It'll be "Manitoba ______"

Grr. That's stupid.

Where'd you find that?
All I can find is that there is no official word on what the team will be called yet.

Also, this,
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog...lling-season-tickets-1-hour-be?urn=nhl-wp6063
PD: Are you guys still accepting Thrashers season ticket deposits?
THRASHERS: We are! Where would you like to sit? How many seats are you looking for?
PD: Downstairs would be great. And just two.
THRASHERS: And what will you be using your tickets for?
PD: To watch some exciting Thrashers hockey in 2011-12.
THRASHERS: In the lower bowl, the lowest we have are $999 and they're in Sections 201-209. Do you want me to tell you the best available there?
PD: And this is for the Atlanta Thrashers' 2011-12 season?
THRASHERS: Uh-huh.
PD: Next season? In the NHL? In Atlanta?
THRASHERS: Uh-huh. Do you want me to tell you the best available tickets?
PD: Sure.
THRASHERS: We actually have some in Row A, in Section 208 and in Section 202. I would suggest Section 208, which has better angles. How does that sound?
PD: Honestly, it sounds a little fishy to me, because they're actually announcing that the team is moving to Winnipeg this morning. In, like, an hour. Are you guys aware of that?
THRASHERS: I'm not aware of it. They haven't announced anything to us yet.
PD: Huh. Yeah, so, I'm probably not going to be able to use those season tickets, if that's OK?
THRASHERS: I'm sorry, what was the purpose of this call?
PD: To find out if you guys are selling season tickets to a team that's no longer there.

The mayor doesn't seem to think it'll be the Jets. But the NHL owns the trademark and Bettman seems open to giving it back to them. That may cause some confusion with the sportsbooks but stranger things have happened. I hope to God it isn't the Manitoba Moose.

That name keeps popping up. Please don't let it be that.

I think just about everyone wants it to be the Jets. Even some of the players want to wear the ol' Jets jerseys. But will it be the Manitoba Jets or the Winnipeg Jets? I guess they're trying to sell the team as Manitoba's team, not just Winnipeg's team, because that rink needs to be sold out every night in order to make the NHL any money and Winnipeg's only got, what? 700 000 people? 800 000? So they want to draw in people from the rest of Manitoba too (Which I think they could do no matter what they called the team, people are just desperate for some hockey over there).

I think there will be a backlash if they don't call it anything but the Winnipeg Jets.

I think that whole 'has to be sold out every night' is a crock of shit. Bettman doesn't seem to have a problem with Phoenix games being half empty, or Tampa, or Carolina, or Anaheim, or Nashville... But for some reason, Canadian teams are only viable if sold our every night. Fucking Bettman.

hey, Carolina is in the upper 80% capacity each night.

We're a small market, but they do all right for themselves.

Not sure why they say they have to have a sell out every night without some form of expected revenue to comment against. The new team will be in tough though, they will be playing in an arena that is the smallest by far in the NHL. Though a small arena work wonders for the Alouettes.

Someone at the Star did the math on it, and itwas pretty much accurate. I think they did the math with their own estimated ticket price, and assuming the team was salary capped out. But the Winnipeg rink seats fewer people than the one in Atlanta (Though I doubt it will ever be half as empty).

That being said, yeah, its pretty clear Bettman is not happy about this. And its hilarious.

Also you forgot Phoenix, which came real close to losing the Coyotes to Winnipeg earlier this season.

So who's it going to be, tonight? Bruins or Canucks? I'm really hoping the Canucks's extra rest gives them the edge. But I'm expecting the Bruins to be playing a very physical game right out of the gate.
Also, anyone know where I can watch online? TSN doesn't seem to be streaming it like usual.
*Nevermind, CBC is streaming it*

So, Bettman said that Winnipeg had to sell 13000 season tickets in order to make Winnipeg a viable team. I thought that was a pretty lofty goal, after all, Winnipeg isn't exactly a huge market. Expectations were that they would try to sell that many tickets in the month before the governors meet.

They sold out in an hour.

Wow. Take that you fucking prick, Bettman.
I'm sure he gladly will.

So you thought it was a lofty goal tickets sold out in 17 minutes and he's the prick?

He's a prick for thinking that Atlanta is a better hockey market than Winnipeg. Considering there's only 15000 seats in the MTS Centre, yeah I thought that it was a bier lofty...after all, he didn't put that stipulation on any of e sunbelt teams.

Now it's war. Aaron Rome absolutely destroyed Nathan Horton with a late hit. Horton stretchered off. Rome ejected. Twitter goes berserk.

Yeah, I wasn't really rooting for anyone in particular, but I've grown sick of the Canucks' dirty plays. Now my sister and I are both making enemies on Facebook rootin' for the Bruins. Besides, Boston's got more Canadians on the team anyway.

Seeing them own the puck like this is fantastic, and is it just me or is the Boston crowd even more insane than the Vancouver one?

You've got some of the worst dregs of thug hockey play in the Bruins, and you're concerned about Canucks' dirty plays? You can't blame Bertuzzi any more, that was 7 years ago and he plays for Detroit now. Let's not forget Chara riding Pacioretty into the turnbuckle (Which fractured one of his vertebrae). Or Paille's hit on Sawada back in February (which echoed Rome's hit pretty closely, with the same 4 game punishment)

Yet its the Canucks who so far in this series have done the biting, the illegal hits, and the many, many dives.

I don't intend to defend the Bruins. I know Chara's history, and I know Boston's reputation. But in this series, they've been playing a cleaner game. I'd rather a team full of Canucks playing a clean game take the cup than a team called the Canucks playing a dirty one.

And I can already hear the argument "Sure, but how do you think they got to the finals in the first place?" Fair enough, but its not like there's a third team to pick, and that doesn't change the Canucks' behaviour. The Canucks themselves have gotten where they are playing a dirty game as well, and by getting some lucky calls in their favour. Subjective officiating is unfortunately part of the game, and until the NHL starts actually enforcing their rules, dirty plays have their place too.

Don't mistake me for some blind Boston Bruins loyalist. I'm not a fan of any one team, I just want to see a good game. That's hard to get nowadays. If the Canucks change their game, maybe I'll be convinced to cheer on the "Canadian" team.

I do feel bad for Lou though. Great goalie, despite the performance last night.
He really should have been pulled. Keeping him in net there was just completely unfair to him, and didn't do him or the Canucks' morale any favours. He was so shaken up and suddenly full of doubt he was stopping pucks and actually checking behind him to see if he had let them through.

Oh god, the biting. C'mere checkeredhat, I'm going to stuff my fingers which are encased in thick rubber in your mouth. What are you going to do? You bite. If you don't want to get bitten, you don't put purposely put your fingers inside someone else's mouth with intent to injure. I'm getting pretty tired of seeing even the Bruins coach commenting on the biting. And the taunting of Burrows by sticking their fingers in his face is not exactly helping.

Maybe it's just the Bruins and the Canucks matchup, but it's definitely an uglier series than all the previous ones combined. The Canucks played a pretty clean game the first period last night - it obviously didn't last.

As for Luongo being a great goalie, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. (I think he's a complete flake.)

On this, we agree. I can't help but wonder what (if any) kind of coverage this is getting in the US. These kinds of displays are not exactly great for expanding the fanbase and shaking off the negative hockey stereotypes some have.

Luongo definitely has a flakey tendency. He just doesn't seem to have the head for when the pressure is really on. But his stats don't lie, when he's on, he's ON.

The hit? Solid hockey play. Stop admiring your pass IMO and look at the guy coming as the hit was a clear north/south hit. If he didn't get hurt no one would have given a shit.

And the fact that the BRUINS get a very favorable call once again reveals the league's hard on for them.
