I forget how different childhoods were for city and suburb kids down here compared to mine in a tiny northern Alberta town. Every time I tell stories about my early I get looks like I'm fucking Tarzan talking to aristocrats about the jungle. Yeah, I played in abandoned rodeo grounds full of rebar and other dangers. We used to bike out of town to a quarry to get hurt repeatedly. Yeah we had a fort up in the trees built by older kids many, many years prior in the forest directly behind our houses (full to the brim with bears) that was dilapidated, dangerous as fuck and full of porn from the 70s. Yeah a kid I knew was paralyzed when that fort eventually collapsed.

Our lives were literally "Is it dark outside? No? Why aren't you getting hurt."

The only person I know whose stories come close to the insane shit we were doing on our own at 7, 8 years old is my friend from Poland (who makes my stories seem like I grew up Barron Trump).

I am a stupid bastard at times. I buy this expensive lawn mower gas that comes in a half gallon tin can. I left it on the front porch in direct sunlight. During the heat wave it blew up like a balloon, then slowly contract at night as it slightly cooled. Last week it reached 106, then it rained. That damned can was crushed like a beer can.

I’m not laughing at you, but more of a shared experience. Mine was a can of Coleman stove fuel, camping trip that it was around 100 and an afternoon thunderstorm dropped temps 20-25 degrees in minutes. Made being careful with the campfire much more important.

At work a new guy hooked up a tote of antifoam. These totes are about 2000 lbs (907 kg) and made of hard plastic with metal cage around it. He forgot to unscrew the top and the thing slowly imploded until it looked like a tin can someone had stomped on.

I checked my schedule for next week and it turns out I have three vacation days. So I have Sunday through Wednesday off.

And I have zero plans or ideas of what to do.

Every time I have days off (that I didn't take off because of plans) I find myself in the same boat. Many times I find myself just clicking through Reddit or YouTube videos while trying to decide what to do until it's too late to actually DO anything and I just go to bed.

Squidley takes flight, she
Runs with her eyes all wide
Looking for a place to hide
HGCLNS follows close behind
Playing tricks upon her mind
Doing wrong by singing songs
Such a nuisance all day long
Go, Squidleyyyy -- we hope that you get free!

I think I up'd my NerdCard membership level yesterday. I attended my first official SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) event. I was there as a potential member, with garb and everything. I knew one person going into the day. It was a very long (12+ hours) and people-y (200+?) day, but it was interesting and fun. I think. I'm still processing.

Pictures behind spoilers, because large.

And as far as I know, there are no pictures of me, for which I am grateful!

Looks like I got out of jury duty, as the post card only said "Michael Robinson" on it. Not Michael C Robinson(me) NOR Michael T Robinson(my dad), NEITHER! And when I called about it, they told me there were NO records attached to which juror was summoned! Some clerk just auto-selected the name and never specified.

The tinnitus in my left ear has gotten so bad that I honestly just thought someone turned on the hose outside. The hiss sounded exactly like the sound of the hose from inside the house.

Go away, jeez.

I don't know if this works for sure, because I don't have tinnitus, but it's worth a try?
