My in laws took Jake and I to lunch recently. While we were eating, they got really excited and said "Oh have you tried Twin Peaks yet?! It's delicious and the atmosphere is so nice and friendly!" I don't think they realize it's a booby restaurant...but how could they not? They're just so conservative about that kind of thing, but they've been back 3 times.

That atmosphere is -very- friendly.

... where's this located at again? For science...

we took my wife's youngest for his 17th birthday, in north Dallas. He was so intimidated, he wouldn't even talk to the girls.

I'm pretty sure that's Amy Shumer there on the right. ;)

Texas A&M - Galveston professor fails entire class, quits.

You could describe this as one epic fail.

Irwin Horwitz couldn’t deal with the rude, incompetent students in his Strategic Management class anymore, so he gave them all an “F” and got the F out of there.

“I finally reached a breaking point,” the Texas A&M professor told KPRC News. “It became apparent that they couldn’t do some of the most simple and basic things they should have been able to do.”

He sent a nasty email to all of the students, informing them of his decision and calling them out for cheating, making fun of him and just having a general disrespect for the class.

He claims one of them even called him a “f-cking moron” to his face.

Part of the message via Inside Higher Ed:

None of you, in my opinion, given the behavior in this class, deserve to pass, or graduate to become an Aggie, as you do not in any way embody the honor that the university holds graduates should have within their personal character. It is thus for these reasons why I am officially walking away from this course. I am frankly and completely disgusted. You all lack the honor and maturity to live up to the standards that Texas A&M holds, and the competence and/or desire to do the quality work necessary to pass the course just on a grade level…. I will no longer be teaching the course, and all are being awarded a failing grade.

While many of the allegations are being investigated, the school said that their grades will be re-evaluated.

“No student who passes the class academically will be failed. That is the only right thing to do,” a spokesperson told Inside Higher Ed.

I read about this. Good on him, as long as they all deserved it. I taught 200 student intro geology classes, and I feel his pain. People would just carry on full-volume conversations in the middle of class. They'd blatantly cheat. And no one cares about being caught. If you tell them to shut up, they stop for 5 minutes and then start right back up again. Part of it is this notion that everyone needs to go to college, which they don't and shouldn't. The biggest surprise in this story is that people cared enough to make a commotion. If you told people in my class that they would fail, they'd shrug shoulders like a high school flunky.

College has changed a lot even since I was an undergrad.

To be fair, the results are skewed slightly by references to more than just crude oil. I'm sure many ads refer to massage oil, cooking oil, beard oil, motor oil, or even honey oil, but the added omnipresence of petroleum products in those regions probably causes that word to bubble up higher than it would elsewhere.

Random:

Red Robin has to be the dumbest mainstream hero costume ever. Especially the Alex Ross version. It looks like some creepy middle aged man you hired for a birthday party, who had no knowledge of superheroes, but went to the nearest costume shop and bought the knock-off costume marked "BAT SUPERGUY MADE IN CHINA".

The hell?

We've improved the condom by making it require more prior planning and setup, using awkward adhesives against the most sensitive part of your body, and we're pretty sure that, maybe, testing will show it's better at preventing sti's and std's, but it probably won't.

But hey, at least the phrase "tighter than a dick's hatband" might make a comeback.

The one with the black cowl just looks awful, but there have been some decent takes on the costume.

beard oil?

Beard oil's useful adn all, but a combination of my face wash, day cream and the occasional drop of my girlfriend's conditioner work just as well if not better.

....what? :p I can be a metrosexual :(

So Wolfie from Howard Stern called me today, and says he'd want me to interview people with him at Wizard Con next week...HOW IS THIS MY LIFE?!

And apparently Howard thinks my voice is funny, which is awesome.

I read an interview (on lifehacker) with Patrick Norton and it made me miss TechTV and The Screensavers. I think right around that time nerdiness was starting to make a turn towards coolness/acceptance.

around 45,000,000.
The heck? I just managed around 250K. I mean, ok, I know I'm left handed, and I know I'm using a crappy crappy mouse with an even worse underground, but still. 45M? Nice.[DOUBLEPOST=1430425090,1430424967][/DOUBLEPOST]OK, it just overvalues "number of points" by, like, a lot. Just got 2M by just drawing the same circle a couple of times....

Ignoring score, I think it's also a fun tool to see how well you can approach a circle with a limited number of dots. 3 is trivial, I can manage to get 5, 6, 8 and 10 dots almost exactly on the circle. For some reason, getting 7 on a circle is a lot harder for me. (evenly spaced, I mean - the points of a pentagram, a David star, etc)
