I trimmed my sideburns but used too short of a setting and they've been shaved clean off. Now I look ridiculous.

Worst part of it all: I was STILL kicked of the company softball team.

@Bubble181 the first part of that is just something that I did. Not a joke.

The part about the softball team is a reference to the classic Simpsons episode "Homer at the Bat" where Mr. Burns brings in a bunch of major league baseball players as ringers in order to win a company softball game. However in a hilarious and highly improbable turn of events, the ringers end up not playing due to various shenanigan (all except for Daryl Strawberry, Homer's replacement). One of the players was Don Mattingly who was constantly told by Mr. Burns that he had to shave his sideburns, but no matter how much of his hair he cuts, Mr. Burns won't be placated. This results in him being kicked off the team.

I think the problem is less that those men wanted to stop over those side effects (which, as said, are also reasons many women don't use hormonal contraceptives) and instead that the people running it, instead of just letting those 20 individuals opt out, chose to shut down the entire testing procedure over the reaction of 6% of the subjects doesn't seem very scientific.

That seems like kind of a pointless (and mean spirited) news story. I know plenty of women who don't use hormonal birth control because the side effects are too disruptive.

Is there independent uk's version of jezebel?
A less shitty news source on the study:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/30/health/male-birth-control/

Overall, 20 men dropped out early due to side effects. A total of 1,491 adverse events were reported by participants, including injection site pain, muscle pain, increased libido and acne. The researchers say that nearly 39% of these symptoms -- including one death by suicide -- were unrelated to the shots.
That seems like a lot of adverse events for 320 guys. I wonder how it compares to female birth control trials. The downsides after stopping don't seem very good either:

Still, there were problems. After 52 weeks in recovery, eight participants had not returned to fertility. The researchers continued to follow these men individually, and five eventually regained normal sperm counts over a longer period of time. One volunteer did not fully recover within four years, though he did "partially recover, so whether he is actually fertile is not known," Colvard said.
That said, when I was younger (and not snipped), I would definitely have been all over this if I found the side effects tolerable. I think that the slant of most of the news articles I've read on this research ("Men are pussies who can't handle side effects that women have to deal with") is total bullshit. Less men (percentage-wise) dropped out of this study due to side effects than the percentage of women who choose not to take hormonal birth control for the same reason.

Ultimately, the researchers ended the study early due to the side effects, and continue to work toward a better formulation. I'm sure that if it were the 1950's (when female birth control was invented), and there was no other highly effective methods on the market, things might have gone differently, and it'd be us guys getting shots, rather than the ladies taking the pill. But since there are effective methods already, I'm sure these guys want to make as marketable a product as they can.

Since this therapy is an injection you gotta take every 2 months, rather than a pill, I think it's actually more apt to compare it to the Depo shot instead of the pill. I know a lot less women who do the Depo than do the pill. Going to the doctor 4-6 times a year for a shot has gotta be a pain.

So just super shitty reporting, then.

I guess it is the UK version of Jezebel.

I went to the dark side thanks to a good sale. This is posted from my shiny new Samsung Galaxy s7 edge.

Extremely mean-spirited, not only against the men demanding safer medications (how dare they!), but also in the criticism of the other forms of female contraceptives. The author sounds like a shill for birth control pill manufacturers. The article describes the implant as "a stick jammed in your arm" and the coil (a form of IUD) "shoved up your vagina and cervix". Oh, please. My best friend uses the implant and loves it. I use an IUD (and it was not "shoved"--maybe the author needs a better gynecologist?) and love it. I have some minor side-effects for the first month or so, then I'm side-effect (and period) free for the next five years until the replacement. IIRC, both implants and IUDs are more effective and safer than BCP. I don't get the author's hate for female contraceptive methods other than BCP, or her shaming people in general who want safer contraceptives.

To be fair, if the BCP - especially the "heavier" ones - were being developed today, the heavy side effects and other problems would like mean it couldn't be released either. The side effects can be very problematic. However, as a society, we've pretty much grown accustomed to it and women themselves mostly don't want to go without, for a variety of reasons. I don't think anyone claims the Pill is the end-all-be-all of birth control. It's why there's so much research into alternatives.

I need to start using my powers for good.

The other day I was driving through town. I noticed this lovely young woman in a pick up, checking me out... then she rear-ended the truck that was waiting to take a left.

Some folk I know were pissed off that Paul Bernardo is having a parole hearing soon. No one wants to listen to reason that it's a fucking hearing, not that he's being guaranteed release soon. Notoriety is no reason to deny someone their rights.

Besides, he has as much chance of being granted any sort of parole as Charles Manson does.

Are you physically perfect? Then buy our hideous super hero themed clothing. It's literally the only way you won't look like a hideous chud while wearing them.

Went through that a couple weeks ago when one of Tori Stafford's murderers had an appeal hearing. One of those completely routine, nearly automatically filed appeals that are bound to happen.

My recent run in with the Geek Squad in a nut-shell:

Me: So this will transfer all my document?

Agent fuckface:Yup.

Me programs to?

Agent fuckface:Absolutely!

ONE DAY LATER-

Suitman:Yeah we don't do that, that's cloning.

Keep in fucking mind, last WEEK they said they could do that! Just...FUCKING WHY?!

On the subject, what's the best cloning software?

Best? Are you trying to start a flame war?

I'm fond of Acronis, mostly because I got a free license with my hard drive. FWIW they have 1 year of it for $15 on the latest Humble Bundle (also a lot of other great software, like LastPass and Display Fusion). Donate the proceeds to the Against Malaria Foundation for extra thumbsup from me :p

Looks like my favorite, Ghost, has been discontinued. Now you know how long it's been since I've done disk cloning.

Acronis was one I've used with success in the past. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for you.

There are a number of free cloning utilities, but a lot of them are annoying in one way or another. If you have more time than money then look at free alternatives:

https://www.google.com/webhp?#safe=active&q=free+windows+disk+cloning+software

But otherwise I'd suggest getting Acronis. Should make things easy, though no cloning job is ever trivial.

I stopped bothering trying to clone from one computer to the next.

Embrace nothingness, Yoshi. You need for nothing. Also start keeping episodes/movies on external hard drives. But programs... just let them go with the old computer, and if it's something you REALLY need, you'll reinstall it when you do. Don't be a slave to your digital past.
