[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

Also it's super 90's and kinda hard to get past.
Insufferably '90s! The only part of that movie I like is Tim Curry. The miniseries is this strange combination of padding, do-nothing scenes, and then trying to cram in book scenes without their context. Like with the damn bike, for example.

This one, at least for what we've seen, feels right.

I went back last week after finishing the book and while the mini-series is close for a lot of the book I agree that it feels like it's trying, for some parts to be too close to the book and others, that ultimately flop rather than this, wildly different. Also it's super 90's and kinda hard to get past.
This is what I'm doing right now. I'm rereading the book for the 3rd or 4th time to get it fresh in my brain again, but I also rewatched the miniseries. There is something really lacking without all the cursing and the violence, except for the awesomeness of Tim Curry. I still think it had some good casting, but like mentioned above, I really wish they had better pacing and higher production value. I keep wondering what it would be like if HBO did the miniseries (well, with the production value they currently have). I'm still iffy a two-part movie can touch on everything.

One that I caught was having the orderly drop his roll of quarters on screen after being attacked by rottweiler It. Without the build up of him using the roll to beat the patients, it's just like, ok, guess it was laundry day?

Exactly! And really, there's no way for a movie to capture all those little things. Better to catch the spirit of the scene and just have a way to show it's a comeuppance scene in a small degree.

The cast isn't terrible, but their acting is, so I'm gonna lay that on the director since I've seen some of them be good elsewhere.

But the kid stuff hurts more because it lacks teeth. The approach to the kids shouldn't be too dissimilar from Monster Squad, except the movie around them plays itself more sincerely.

I'm on my fourth read of the book still; I keep taking breaks. Will definitely finish before the movie comes out though. It's nice being reminded of my love for these characters.

New Blade Runner looks pretty cool. Maybe I should give watching it another chance. Every time, I find I'm just bored and can't get into it. Plus, there are like fifty gajillion billion million different versions out there, so I don't even know which one to watch anymore. That number, by the way, is not an exaggeration. There are literally fifty gajillion billiion million versions of that movie swimming around.

I'm not sold yet. It looks like it might be good, but it also looks like they are trying damn hard to match the tone and atmosphere of the first one rather than let this be in the same universe, but stand on it's own.

Also, is it me or does Gosling's character look ALOT like Ford's from the first?

Maybe he's a Replicant from the same model line and that is the big twist? I'm running off the sorta confirmed but maybe not really, but yeah it is idea that Deckard in the first one is a replicant.
spoiler alert!

I'm assuming this is like the bullshit trend DC has been trying to get away with on some of their trade releases? Take out the color, slap noir to the end of the title and sell it at the same price as the colored version?

From what I've heard, that's not the case. It got a very careful color treatment, similar to when Fury Road had a limited black and white (which they called black and chrome) release

I don't know. I loved Dark Crystal as a kid, and it holds up pretty well, but... the story was basically complete. I don't really know where you'd go from there.

The civilization and eventual genocide of the Gelflings alone would provide plenty of story material.

Backward, apparently. This is a prequel.

They could always go way back like the graphic novels, to the creation myths of Thra, but that might be getting too abstract.

But hell, I'm excited just to see a full Henson workshop production. That it's set in the world of The Dark Crystal just makes it so much better.

Maybe we should rename this thread "Upcoming Trailers Thread" so we don't feel weird posting TV stuff. Because...

This...doesn't look bad. The punches with lightning feels kind of cheap, like an episode of Power Rangers, but overall, it looks promising.

I recently read the novelization (got it from Humble Bundle) and it was damn good. I need to rewatch the movie, because I don't remember the movie having as much detail in it as the book.

One of these days I need to get Netflix, but now is not the time.

"Ha ha, Gas got snared by the red hair, that's so typically Gas, you'd never be able to trap me like that... holy shit look at those boobs!"

Holy crap. Is that Trevor, Grant Danasty, Alucard and Sypha Belnades? Is this a Castlevania 3 series?!? (rare squee)
