Strongly disagree. First off, the Smells Like TEEN Spirit part of Pan was the only good scene in the movie, and managed to sum up the crossing of worlds by juxtaposing a part of modern culture onto these strange, otherworldly pirates.
The reason to use popular songs in a movie is to evoke the emotion involved in that music, transform it, and make it apply to the scene it is accompanying. Music more than anything else occupies our collective cultural hivemind, it makes connections in our brains and brings new meanings.
