[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

Well I'm glad to be wrong. Maybe the anime didn't sell well enough.
Maybe :(

Hope train: Madhouse (the studio responsible for NGNL) sometimes waits years between seasons for no discernible reason. Look at Chihayafuru (2 years), or Burai Kaiji (4 years). They also sometimes revisit old ideas and expand on them: Death Parade, which I'm fond of, was originally just a 1-shot quasi-Shigoku-Shoujo-homage OVA from 2013 called Death Billiards.

Yeah... not selling enough DVDs has sort of been an issue for a lot of series since 2000. It's what killed Big O, Deadman Wonderland, and a few other series. Part of this is Japan's unwillingness to change business model and part of it is the decline of anime in the West because of huge licensing fees.

Natsume Yuujinchou just got greenlit for a fifth season, apparently. Excited for that, though, it's a fantastic series.

I'm trying to think what else is getting a new season pretty soon. Shokugeki no Souma has a s2 coming, Shingeki no Kyoujin/Attack on Titan has one coming eventually, uhhhhhhhhh.

Madhouse's adaptations over the last couple years have been pretty solid, I'd love to see more continued series from them. Ore Monogatari! was fantastic, for example.

Nate and I have been watching a bit of anime recently (I've taken a LOOOONG hiatus from watching any), we started Seven Deadly Sins because everyone said it was amazing and No Game No Life.

I'm gonna pass on SDS because good god, I can't stand Elizabeth. Nate and I now shout 'Meliodas!' at each other as a running joke. Anyway. Not my cup of tea, but I'm glad lots of people seem to be enjoying it. =^^=

I'm much more interested in No Game No Life, we're only like four episodes in, but I'm liking it so far. It's so colorful! And Shiro is like an anime version of my friend Raye, which makes me laugh and just makes me want to watch more.
i fricking marathoned NGNL in one night after buying the super premo numbered ultimate weeaboo edition from RightstufAnime. I love the hell out of Shiro and Sora. Shiro is one of those awesome fully fleshed out characters that isnt just simply fanbait.[DOUBLEPOST=1458606089,1458605881][/DOUBLEPOST]also i dont remember who told me it, but season 2 of Date-A-Live comes out tomorrow and i am looking forward to seeing if its actually a trainwreck like i was informed. I Loved Season 1!

Not any time soon. The manga is barely ahead of where season 2 will end, so the creator announced it'll still be a while.
It was slated for April initially I think, but yeah, I heard it got pushed back. That would be a pretty good reason why.[DOUBLEPOST=1458608008,1458607924][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think I dropped s2, but the fact I can't remember should speak to its quality. I enjoyed s1, but I remember s2 being pretty poor quality and just badly-paced.

Oh come the fuck ON Dimension W-
-you keep the part where Mira get's decapitated, but write out the awesome car-chase of Petrol power vs. Tesla power?!

GRAH-I say- GRAH!

Edit: Aaaaaaaaaaaaand after seeing the next episode that needlessly skipped the classic horror/mystery aspect of the arc its BASED on I am done with this series. Fucking done. Also its needlessly stylized, and it pisses me off.

Still watching Shiki. It did get better as @Denbrought suggested. It still has that irritating anime convention where "monsters" who look and act exactly like humans pretend like humans are the same as livestock. Since when does a pig speak the same language, act the same, and design and manufacture everything you use and consume?

There's been enough ink spilled, on behalf of Vampire the Masquerade, as to why that's a an interesting worldview to explore as an ageless blood-ravenous human husk that is likely evil incarnate. Anime may do it wrong pretty often, but the trope has its place, and I think this show played it pretty well.

There's a lot more to it than that (a lot of my thoughts rely on what happens in last third of the show, and I'd rather not spoil it), but I was reasonably satisfied with what they did.

Baccano!
An anime the three episodes rule was made for. The first episode can be really confusing with the different storylines, the time jumps back and forth and the amount of characters. But after that it keeps getting better and better. Finished the first volume with four episodes in one go and will watch the rest very soon.

Why does Japanese McDonald's get the Big America Texas 2 burger, while TEXAS doesn't?!

I don't know. Why did Hardee's/Carl's Jr. discontinue the Steakhouse Thickburger? It came out only three months ago!

1/2# beef patty topped with crunchy onion strings, blue cheese crumbles, A1 sauce, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

Woah dang, Adult Swim is partnering with Production IG (Ghost in the Shell, FLCL, Attack on Titan and a ton more) to produce two more short seasons of FLCL.

It was announced on March 24, 2016 via the Toonami crew's Tumblr and Facebook page that 12 new episodes of FLCL would be produced in cooperation with Production I.G. The upcoming episodes will be split into two individual seasons which will serve as sequels to the popular series which was broadcast on Adult Swim's anime block in 2003.

If only they'd consider throwing that kind of resources at Venture Brothers, so 8 episodes wouldn't take 2 years.

Still progressing through Shiki. Really like Toru. Kaori's breakdown was good. In any case, I feel like this author really liked Salem's Lot. It has a great deal in common with it.

Whoa. This anime seriously had a hockey stick graph in quality, too. Episode 19+ are phenomenally better. Kaori, the liquor store owner's son, Ritsuko. All pretty good.

Glad you're having a similar experience. It's like one of those long-wind-up roller coaster ride.

Megumi's death was perfect. She died as a dumb, ditzy teen, which made the show's point perfectly.
The only things I didn't like were Seishin and Sunako. Their rhetoric was kind of dumb. The simple answer to their quandary was that they actually weren't alive at all. They'd already died. That's the vampiric curse after all--you only borrow life from others to extend your undeath. I mean that's a grey area with lots of moral questions of its own but it sidesteps a lot of her concerns. It's also why Buffyverse vampires never really interested me. They're not a curse, they're just demons in a skin suit, and that's far more boring to me.

so finished watching it this morning. season 2 did have weird pacing, it just made me want to know where it was going next. The new characters felt really shoehorned in, and we got to see the big bad like 4 times and he was completely out of reach of the heroes.

Musaigen no Phantom World, KyoAni's show this last season, ended today. Pretty good action/comedy, though it doesn't have much of an over-arching plotline like most shows they've done in this genre. Regardless, though, it's a fun ride and as usual KyoAni's animation is top-notch.

so i just bought Lupin the III: Jigen's Gravestone. holy hell, its one of the best short films i have ever watched and the modern dub cast is spot on and tons of fun. it plays like a buddy cop movie and everything is so well played together! I need to get the tv show that spawned this reboot to see if its as awesome as this movie turned out to be.

Part IV? I'm about 4 episodes in. It's a lot of fun so far.
