Your ACTUAL New Years Resolutions

I figured it'd sound silly, and I don't want to go too far down that rabbit hole, but let's just say my first child is 7, and we'd always planned on having 2-3, and there are quite a few sad endings in there the past 5-6 years.

Well, sorry. I know people who write something like that as a resolution or a goal often do have a reason for saying so - I was just adding some levity, not making light of what might be a painful situation.

We had a similar problem. My wife and I are rh mismatched. Lots of miscarriages but we have 2 kids we wouldn't trade for anything...

...less than $100

I'm still trying to figure out some real life resolutions, but my Halforums resolution is to stop accidentally hitting ratings when I'm scrolling the threads on my phone. (Apologies if you ever get notification of odd ratings in your Alerts.)

I know it's cliché to the point no one takes it seriously but I'm going to lose some weight. I'm 28 now and my body has let me know I can no longer eat like I'm in my first year of college. Combined with the insanely busy and insanely stressful year at work, I ate garbage food all 2014 and am now heavier than I have ever been in my entire life (195lbs).

Specifically, I am going to lose 20 lbs by May so that when I get fitted for a tux for my brother's wedding I'm back to almost where I should be. I have no year end goal for weight loss but I would like to be bench pressing my weight by the end of the year.

I have very specific rules set for my diet, and am going to be weighing in bi-weekly. This is going to suck for a few weeks but I know it's going to get better.

Manage money better.

Work every day on a marketable skill. I think I've been doing a really good job of this so far; I've been making a serious effort of learning C++ and getting pretty far along learning all of the basic syntax rules (it helps that it's so similar to Javascript that my lessons from codecademy already covered a lot of the same rules I'm learning). Before long I think I'll be ready to take my school's computer science placement exam and skip over the intro classes to get a minor in computer science.

Get into a financial position to afford better apartment conditions after my lease is up this July. I miss having my own room.

Seriously cut back on procrastination. Homework gets done from now before I allow myself to watch shows, play games, or browse the internet.

Whee! Mine! A Squier Jaguar Bass

Someone else did this to it at the store, which got me $30 off...

but otherwise it's still new, manufacturer's warranty and all that.

So step 1 is complete. Now to learn how to play. I skipped getting an amp on this paycheck, partly because my car needed a new battery TODAY, and partly because I need to train my fingers to do what they're supposed to first.

I continue to keep my number 1 resolution, that I make every year: Do good. Ala Mr. Feeny.

And then, my self serving resolution is to have my book sent out to be published.

1. Don't accidentally kill myself. So far, so good.
2. Start regularly attending therapy.
3. Get back to freelancing and working on RPG material.
4. Write.

Does anyone know a good iOS app that will simply track whether or not you've done a list of daily (and maybe weekly) tasks? Maybe give you stats as a bonus?

There are plenty of task list apps--even built in ones. But I would like the ability to tick them off daily and preferably track it. I know these exist but I can't remember the good ones. Google results are all over the place.

Well, I found exactly what I was looking for. Way of Life does exactly what I want. I don't like their pricing though. It's free with a 5 dollar unlock. Okay I am fine with paying for a good app, but this effectively disables the app for Family Sharing, since in-app purchases can't be shared.

I like Habit RPG, though I use the web interface and can't speak much for the quality of the iOS app. Still, it's free (there's stuff you can buy, mostly cosmetic and otherwise non-vital stuff though). It let's you track daily, repeated, and one shot tasks, count the streaks for the daily ones (which can also be set to specific days rather than every day of the week), and if you're doing this with other people, you can form a guild and do "quests" as a group.

Man, Kung Lao has, like, a LOT of femora.

Also, everyone in that game looked like exploding sacks of dog bones.[DOUBLEPOST=1421093133,1421092917][/DOUBLEPOST]

Things just went free. No RPG elements, but it's a stone solid app.
Also, Remember the Milk is free, but with limitations (limited synching).

Meh, I'll stick with "femurs". It's accepted by the OED, the OAD, and M-W.

Things, Wunderlist, Todoist, Any.do, RTM, etc are good to-do lists, but they don't track. That's the killer feature I want. RTM was great at first, but the requirement for a recurring subscription to do what literally dozens if not hundreds of other apps do for free is not appealing.

Well, then it's not free, is it?
Also, I assume they did that just to get around the possibility that one family member would buy it and do just that. Clever dev.

It's fully functional for 3 tasks. But really, who wants to track just 3 things?

Well, duh. When I set out my goals for learning bass, I completely forgot about this little number...

New goal: ACQUIRED. :D

Evidently I went a little too crazy with the healthy eating, and I've been basically anorexic for the last two weeks and didn't know it.
Girl at work kept bugging me that she didn't think I was getting enough calories, cause all I eat are raw vegetables at work. I told her at home I generally eat stir fries or pastas, so that's where all my carbs and calories are comeing from. She said that still didn't sound like enough, so I plugged my average daily diet into a calorie counter and man, she was right. I've only been consuming roughly 800 calories a day. And burning 300 of that on the exercise bike.

Basically I need to start eating nuts and fish.

So apart from going a little too crazy with the dieting, I think I've done well so far. Haven't weighed in yet, but I'm getting up each morning and doing 45 minutes on a recumbant bike. That's led to me actually having more energy in the day so I'm drinking less coffee as well. Down to 2-3 cups a day from the 4-7 I was drinking before. I've replaced most of the cheese and bread in my diet with raw vegetables, so I still have something to snack on but it isn't just made of starch and fat, and I've limited the intake of carb and protein heavy foods to only before my weight training at night, and never within 2 hours of bed. There's been one or two stumbling blocks; a buddy of mine just moved to Halifax and there was a good bye shindig, and my friend just got a job after 5 months of unemployment so there was bar food and drinks last night, but on the whole, I think I've made huge improvements.

So apparently I too went a little too far with the cutting of things from my diet. It's a good thing you posted, @checkeredhat. I feel great most of the time, but I've actually cut a bit too much sugar out of my diet, and it's been causing minor panic attacks. But, just to sum up, I quit smoking 17 days ago and have had 2 cigarettes since (and I'm even off the patches now); I've also cut (a bit too much it appears) sugar from my diet, added fiber (in the forms of whole grains, legumes, and benefiber), increased my water intake, and even added some seafood into my diet.

The biggest drawback I've seen so far is that I'm exceptionally sensitive to fragrances now. My wife was eating some Hi-Chew in the car last weekend and I nearly drove off the road because it smelled so much.
