My parents had a lightening strike in their backyard some years back. Hit one of their trees, traveled underground, blew out their phone line, destroyed the tvs and computer, took out the lights they just installed to line the walkway going to the house, and shot the cover of their electric meter about 8 feet from the house. My mom was in the bathroom at the time. I told her she was in the right place since the "BOOM" this thing made had to have scared the shit out of her.

This experience has reminded me of one of my personal dreams. Call me weird, but one thing I'd like to experience once AND SURVIVE(can't make that any more clear) is getting struck by lightning. One because I would FEEL THE VERY ESSENCE OF THE UNIVERSE COURSING THROUGH MY BODY- and two because I could brag about that shit for like a year and get free drinks. Provided my bowels would still work and I could still walk of course.

A crazy fantasy? Yes. But its one of mine none the less.

I don't think you'd feel the essence of the universe. You'd just feel electricity choosing through you. Go lick a 9 volt battery or something.

The house I grew up in in rural SC seemed to be a lightning magnet. We were struck a lot. It's dug grooves in the ground, taken out trees, and burned down my dad's workshop (which was thankfully not connected to the house). It seemed to be particularly attracted to the water pump, which electrically may make sense. We had to replace it a couple of times due to lightning damage. To this day, I have next to no knowledge of 80s TV that aired on CBS or ABC, because those were UHF channels, and lightning blew out UHF on our TV, leaving only NBC and PBS.

I have some creepy memories of thunderstorms. I'm sure FnordBear and General Specific can confirm that they are oddly strong in central SC. I was playing outside with my friends and our parents once in 4th grade when we all saw a huge bolt of lightning take out a big, old tree in our field. Another time, my family was eating dinner, and something struck nearby. None of us saw a bolt, but we all agree to have seen a glowing ball of light just above the table. Maybe it was just the bright light overloading our retinas. Who knows?

You've got some strange ideas.

I know everyone's giving you crap about this 'essence of the universe' thing, but I'd like to give you crap about this: what other dreams can one have other than personal ones? Impersonal dreams? External dreams? Can you have others' dreams?

He could have a Quantum Leap experience.

Its really just an tag, I thought it sounded nice.

And keep in mind folks I did say "provided I could still walk and have control of my bowels." I am aware it would most likely be painful, its not like I'm running straight into lightning storms or anything. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna think about it every time and again though.

I haven't worn a wristwatch in 10 years. Almost every morning, when I get in the shower I STILL TO THIS DAY have a brief moment of panic to the tune of "Ohmigod I forgot to take off my watch! Wait..."

Hey Yoshimickster ... this is what happens when lightning strikes asphalt.

Hey, he said it was a fantasy. I think he knows a lightning can and will fuck you up if it hits you.

I have a fantasy of having kinky, wild sex with a pair of highly attractive twins... but I know the likelihood of that ever happening is about the same as getting hit by a lightning.

Thank you North_Ranger .

Speaking of watches GasBandit , I have't worn a wrist-watch in forever either. I really should though because I'm tired of taking out my phone just to see the time. I'd just look at my wrist and BAM I'd know what the time be. I'd like one of them wind-up deals though, I hate programming a digital watch. They can just be a BITCH to program. You gotta hold 2 buttons at once just to reprogram the freakin' time-GAH!

Speaking of wrist watches, Seattle has apparently recently had a rash of burglaries by a group of suspects that the police have taken to calling the "Time Bandits." They stop you on the street, ask you if you have the time, and when you look down to pull out your phone or look at your watch, they pull a gun and rob you.

Casio w-71 . Cheap, lasts forever, small and light, trivial to set the time, has all the features one generally wants in a watch (dual time, alarm, chronometer with laps, countdown timer, hourly chime). Battery lasts 5 years.
Heh, I had one of those when I was a kid. Bashed it on a rock when I fell out of a boat rafting on the Arkansas.

Got a Casio Databank to replace it. Until I... bashed it on a rock falling out of a boat rafting on the Arkansas.

I took my watch off to go rafting after that.

Reminds me of when this time when this beer glass I was holding just broke in between my fingers. Didn't drop it, it just broke between my fingers. Always gotta be careful with glass that comes out of the freezer.

Yeah, but can you bash it on a rock falling out of a boat on the Arkansas?

LOL...

The sapphire glass is supposed to be pretty tough... but yes I imagine you could bash it on a rock falling out of a boat on the Arkansas (though if you don't fully pierce the glass it's water proofness shouldn't be comprimised).
