Growing up in the 80s/90s in SC basically meant you were cut off from the world unless you had the (then) super expensive dish service and a place to put a big 10ft dish.
The thunderstorms in the summer, or "Hot Wet" as I call it, could be pretty terrifying. Sometimes you have tons of rolling thunder without a drop of rain, others it seems like Zeus ate some ghost peppers and has the pepper poots.
South Carolina has a unique weather pattern, the four season you are likely familiar with don't exist. Our four seasons are Hot Wet, Hot Dry, Cold Wet, and Cold Dry. No real variation. Sometimes there is snow and hail.
Earlier this year during late Hot Dry/early Hot Wet we had tater tot sized hail.
