[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

I'm going to be 27 in two months.

What the hell am I doing?
I know how you feel. I will be turning 27 in just under two months myself and I have been asking myself that very question.

----------------------------------------------------

As far as my minor rant goes it is very minor but it still annoys me. As some people know/expect I work in the IT field and I have gotten used to the stupid things customer do to their systems but sometimes I still am left just puzzling over some of the things they do. For example today I had someone ask for help getting their dual monitors working. I went over to there cube and quickly discovered the issue. They had the VGA cable from one monitor plugged into the VGA port of the other monitor and where wondering why it was not working. They also had an USB keyboard that they said didn't work and yet when I plugged it back in it worked perfectly fine. Oh well at least it was a quick and easy fix but I think it is going to be a long day.

I thought when I was 25 I'd have a career, a wife and a kid.

hahaha

Why don't I keep a flask in my desk.
Funny thing about plans... They fall through. I won't just say "buck up", because I know it's not that simple. But you're not alone, and you know as well as I that booze won't get you closer to those goals that seem so far away.

I honestly don't think more drinking is the answer to your troubles. In fact, the opposite might hold true.

And career and wife at 25? That's not exactly realistic, you shouldn't beat yourself up because your life doesn't adhere to whatever vision you had when you were younger. You know what's true about everyone's younger self? They were dumb.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Past Leigh was dumb. But most of my friends have careers. None have wives/husbands, mind you, but there are various reasons for that.

Also I was mostly joking about the flask thing. I have been re-moderating my drinking again over the last week. Obviously it's a problem for me sometimes (lots of times? all the times?), I'm not in denial, but I also don't think I'm ready to confront it with anything more dramatic than self-regulation and getting my close friends to support me.[DOUBLEPOST=1370368947][/DOUBLEPOST]

Also, they weren't really plans I guess, more like expectations. I'm not crushed or anything. Just frustrated.

I'm in the same boat as Chad Sexington. 28, no career, no family, only just getting started with college. My parents were married and had my brother by this point and I can't help but feel like their disappointed in me. It certainly doesn't help that my mother is pressuring both my brother and I for grandkids like it's her god given right.

27? 25?! Psf, you babies are babies.
I still feel very young, and that makes me feel grateful. I don't have a lot of patience for my friends who get all "OMG I FEEL OLD" when they talk about shit that happened in the 90s. My knees and hips don't hurt all the time. I'm awesome.

Hey, all the other parents in my son's class, if you respond the the invitation that we sent out, I don't have to spend two weeks wondering if I'm about to give my son a party with one person present. KTHXBYE

Okay, so, my co-workers just barely, BARELY, discovered this video:

And I don't know how much more of 'Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan!' I can take in the office. I have never seen anyone be this 'late to the party' on a video before. Is it wrong that I'm annoyed? Like, I don't mind that you find it funny and I don't mind that you want to share it with the whole office, but, please, no more!

Also, I'm having a bizarrely depressing week, if anyone cares to know.

Just wait til they start playing Gangnam Style. I'm sure they'll love that!

Oh lordy, please no, no! NOOOOO!!

Confession time: I actually still love Gangnam Style - I avoided it like the plague when it exploded so that I could still enjoy it in the future.

Man, I remember when in like 2005 or so, this woman who worked here discovered the circa-1999 "Cat! I'm a kittycat! And I DANCE DANCE DANCE and I DANCE DANCE DANCE" thing. Ho boy.

Sitting on the train me to a woman who can't f-ing sit still. She keeps touching me!!! And dropping her coat on me or putting her purse on my feet. She's tiny and these seats are big...there is no need for her to sprawl all over her seat and touch me. I may have to find something to stab her with.

Some big thunderstorms came through the area this afternoon, we got a direct hit on our apartment building. No real damage to the building that can be seen, but did have the surge fry my daughter's television and Tivo, our house cordless phone and one port of my router. Nobody was hurt and I can always replace "stuff."

So my condo is on the market (anyone want a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath condo in Calgary? Excellent location and priced to move!), and there have been a few showings this week (yay!). No offers yet (boo!).
But now my tenant is whinning that there are showings after 5pm and that that disturbes their schedule. Seriously? Yes, I know it's annoying and stressful, but most comparable properties are selling in less than 2 weeks right now, and anyone who can afford Calgary real estate is also working which means showings during the week are probably going to be outside normal business hours. You are not a special snowflake, and I do not care if you are being inconvenienced. You get at least 24-hours notice before each showing, live with it. It's only temporary. Yeesh.

I just had "the talk" with my boss about the scientific programmer assigned to help me out. I hate talking about that stuff, but I can't ignore his performance anymore. He has been working on a 3rd party piece of code I asked for since March. Yesterday, I got tired of waiting and I did it myself. It took me a morning. That's not a boast either. It was pretty straight forward. I don't think he'll be fired, but he will be given an ultimatum I think. I should not be a better programmer than my programmer. I'm a scientist dammit. I'm supposed to give you crappy code and you make it better, not the other way around.
