It doesn't quite work that way. If you neuter a male cat after they've already started acting like an adult male, they tend to keep being aggressive with other cats as well as peeing on everything. (although if you neuter them too early, they can be prone to bladder infections.)

From experience, you'll find that time of year both wonderful and frustrating at the same time. Our anniversary is December 17. I'm not saying don't do it, but be prepared (somewhere in your mind) for some frustration down the line between family and time for your day.
I expect we shouldn't run into much trouble. We're both pretty lax when it comes to anniversaries/celebrations, and both of our families are understanding when we're not able to make it to family gatherings. We're usually able to make it to both holiday celebrations, which turns into looooong days for both of us heading from one gathering to the next, but we're usually able to accommodate. :3
We didn't really hit any of that until after we had our daughter. Our families are good about all types of stuff, but once the grandchild was in the picture... I wouldn't trade it for anything though.
