What are you playing?

IRON ISLANDER TRASH! My champion destrier is now lame. FUCKER!

Also, Lord Karstark is totally pissed at me for eloping with his daughter.

AND, don't award me the city I liberated from Tywin Lannister with zero help from the rest of you deadbeats? Fine, fuck you. I'm leaving it undefended. Let Stannis' boys have it after the Westerlanders take it back.

Mount and Blade is awesome.

This close Robb, I am this fucking close to denouncing you, joining Tywin and coming up there and tearing the north apart myself.

An excellent one amongst many.

Pics came on their FB page this past week, Mount & Blade 2 looking gooood.

Alright, the AI must be broken or something....or Robb Stark is just Starking up everything. He keeps giving every new city, castle or village that we conquer to the same fucking guy, who cannot possibly defend that many properties, so they keep getting reconquered.

Donnel Locke, I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE! You don't seem to take part in anything militarily. Do you just hang out with Rickard Karstark up by the wall fucking around with Wildlings? YOU ARE USELESS.

Downloaded the Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies demo.

I've never played one of these before, but the memes have informed me of the games' nature more than I realized. It's cute and ridiculous. Not sure I'm up for tossing $30 at it, but I might rent one of the DS titles and see how I feel playing a whole game. The demo is very short and kind of just tells you how to play it, so those who've played previous titles won't really find much to try here except seeing the graphic improvements and trying out the mood matrix.

I just got my Hearthstone Beta invite.

I lost 4hrs instantly.

I don't think I'm going to be able to play much else for a while now.

Are you mistaking it with something? Hearthstone is the Blizzard Warcraft themed online card game. I don't think they had a backing thing of any sort.

Completely unrelated, right now I want a company to make a Mount and Blade style game. Army combat, joining a faction, guilds, etc, but I want a greater variety of tasks to undertake with a greater variety of interactions with the nobility and when I do earn lordship over a town, or castle, or city, I want a Sim-esque building and management segment where I can control how and what gets built for my citizenry with visual feedback.

Fuck that would be awesome.

Oh.... bah, I was half asleep. I thought he was speaking of :

I couldn't give two shits of that WoW game.

And I completely agree on the Mount & Blade wish. That would be my DREAM GAME.

Here's to hoping that M&B 2 will be as damn awesome.

X-Com: Enemy Unknown

I give up. This game is just too unforgiving even on Easy level. You can't get your satellites up in time before you lose at least one country, the aliens change up far too fast for it to be worth anything (like stunning sectoids because they disappear by the time you get the stun gun), and worst of all, these so-called trained soldiers can't hit the broadside of a barn nine times out of ten, even when the percentage is well in their favour.

Not to mention all the times you're just sitting there, scanning the planet and waiting for something to do that isn't research. At least in the original, there were ships flying around on a semi-regular basis.

I recently started playing this, and... are we playing the same game? I'm playing on normal, but I'm nearly to the last mission and haven't really had a whole lot of problems. I've been abusing the shit out of Snipers. I'm assuming you aren't talking about the original (UFO: Enemy Unknown) since you mentioned its difference to the original.

Same. The only time I really had issues was when I first started and treated my squad with a very gung-ho attitude. Once I understood the kind of game this is, I learned to play carefully and started over. Been through two playthroughs on normal and I haven't encountered Nick's problems. Sectoids still show up later on; the change-up in alien roster just keeps you on your toes. Wait time between research? There's usually too much going on, except after the first big story victory; there's some dead air when the aliens seem to be defeated.

But the UFOs wouldn't stop coming and anyone who had aiming trouble usually got fitted with a scope. I want to play again with some of the harsher difficulty settings, but I'll probably wait until I can get the expansion (unless the government shutdown is too prolonged; if so that'll affect my income enough to make this a lean Christmas).

I thought Normal was decently challenging (never tried Easy I think). Classic games though... OUCH.[DOUBLEPOST=1380945616,1380945122][/DOUBLEPOST]Tips for success :

1. Never finish your turn without being on overwatch. Take your time.
2. Lead with Assault, let them carry the stunners. Lightning reflexes is king.
3. Snipers with shared vision is game breaking.
4. Research plasma when possible, their weapons are best in game.
5. Scopes on everyone not support or assault. When support hit major, scope them.
6. Armor is important.
7. Plan your base ahead, keep a 4 by 4 area on each side for satellite stuff and power generators.
8. Make sure to have a solid B team. Going in with 6 vets is nice but your rookies need some time too.
9. Get 6 man squad ASAP.
10. North America or Europe are great places to start.
11. Engineers are very important to get, scientists, not so much.
12. Plan your budget on how quickly you can get your satellite network up.
13. When you choose a place to defend in the beginning of the game, 2 places you won't choose on normal will get 2 panic. Think of reward/cost ahead of time.
14. My favorite squad is 1 Sniper, 1 Heavy, 2 Assault, 2 Support.
15. When enemies get discovered and run out range, don't go after them, get in cover and overwatch. Flank them while staying in cover. Partial cover sucks. Get full cover.

Jay already gave lots of great advice. If you're early in the game and don't yet have any assaults to lead the... well, assault, then you'll want to cover your troops via overwatch from behind. Before advancing into unknown territory, get a couple of your troops into cover and put them into overwatch, so they can provide support fire down range as you creep forward.

Get shared vision on a sniper, and get the talent that allows overwatch reaction shots to crit. Then stick him somewhere high up with good vision of the entire are and put him on overwatch. Most times he'll one shot any alien coming into view, or at least severely wound.

Did we mention how important overwatch and cover are? Seriously, most time you won't be doing dash moves (snipers can dash, since they can't move and fire at the same time anyway), you'll be moving as far as you can under normal movement, and then going into overwatch. You want your soldiers covering each others asses.[DOUBLEPOST=1380959248,1380959119][/DOUBLEPOST]What have I been playing? Volgarr the Viking! It's awesome, and hard, but fair with really tight controls.

How awesome is this game? Just look at the front of the manual.

I finished the main quest for Prototype.

It's a fun enough game, but I think the side quests could use more variety. I like how the city feels like a properly populated city. In other open world games I've played, streets tended to only have one or two cars on them at any given time, but here you've got tons of cars, tons of pedestrians, and they react to what you do in largely realistic manners.

Having said that though, the AI's really dumb sometimes. "Oh look, there's a guy who just ran into our military base, sprinted straight up the wall, and then jumped down and landed so hard he literally made a crater. He's dressed as a soldier though, so I'm sure he's not suspicious at all."

Still though, this was quite an enjoyable venture into open world mayhem. Being a one-man superweapon is tons of fun. Probably going to play something else first before I move on to Prototype 2. Oooh, Borderlands looks good.

Much as I love the Prototype games Boarderlands is way better.

Gods yes.

Dear Metro Last Light,

While I appreciate that an autosave feature exists in your game (especially on a day where I'm playing a New Game+ of Devil Survivor, going along thinking I'm invincible, only to have a crucial NPC die, cause Game Over, and realize I haven't saved since Day 5 began), I wish you also had a NORMAL save function so I could have saved when I felt appropriate, rather than being stuck on the unfortunate autosave spot where I'm about to run out of filters. Thanks a bunch.

I don't know. Maybe the console version of X-Com different. Or maybe I just suck at the game. I rarely have patience for tactical games. I turned off Final Fantasy Tactics back in the day before the end of the first fight that felt like it lasted half an hour or an hour.

I have the console version.

If you don't have patience for tactical games, then it's probably not the game for you. In Final Fantasy Tactics, you can at least go on the offensive and barrel into the fights. Only the story missions (and one really hard random Chocobo battle) will take a while. But in XCOM, you have to play slow and steady or else you lose. Half an hour is a pretty quick mission; usually mine are probably 45 minutes, and the tough ones can go for well over an hour.

Also, don't play Fire Emblem.

Tactical RPGs are my favorite genre, so it's hard for me to be unbiased. I can only tell him what awesome games to avoid.

(Tactics Ogre, Valkyrie Chronicles, Vandal Hearts, Devil Survivor)

Well, I tried X-Com one more time today. It's just too frustrating a game for me. I deleted it.
If you want to try your hand at another hard but AWESOME game, you need to enter the world of the Viking! Or at least the kind of viking world that exists airbrushed on the sides of vans.

Playing Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold, since I'm sick of getting repeatedly faceraped by the boss of the 3rd maze on IV. I think I'm going to need to respec some of my guys because I out level the crap out of the fight I'm just not doing enough damage fast enough. (Needs more ice magic power!!!!!)

I must be a glutton for punishment. Either that or I just hate myself deep down.

My Awesomenauts lifetime Win % is less than 40.
Everytime I play Hearthstone online, my Win % is less than 40.

Everything I play competitively I lose way more than I win.

I don't have fun.

Yet I have 50+ backlogged single player games and I spend hours on Awesomenauts and Hearthstone.

Now you're making me scared for when I get that far; the last thing I want to do is have to re-mold these people.

I suppose I'd forge their weapons to have Ice properties if that would be at all effective.
