Video Game News and Miscellany

Cool, thanks for letting me know, @Frank I have Bioshock 2 on steam, but never got around to really playing it.

'Course at this point, I own a great big chunk of steam games.

Oh man, teasers for Frictional's (Amnesia: Dark Descent) new sci-fi (I assume horror too) game SOMA. I love this kind of marketing, bring it on!

The thing I've come to dislike about the Oracle Zelda games is feeling completely lost since there's no hub map.

It's why I'm still on the fence about getting A Link Between Worlds.

So EA is rebooting Dungeon Keeper. Couple negatives...

It's EA.
It's going to be an iOS app game.
It's going to be free to play, meaning in-app purchases.
Peter Molyneux is not involved.
Digging now takes a full minute per patch of dirt.

I'd have settled for a port.

So, they're reskinning Farmville as DK? Nice for them, I'll gladly just ignore its existence.
1 was a big problem. 2 means I'm out, anyway. 3 would've sunk the boat for me as well. 4 I don't care about...As long as someone else with talent was working on it. 5 is just a logical consequence of 2 and 3.

Apparently Beyond Two Souls isn't very good.

This review made me bust the fuck up though and he barely cracks a single joke.

Yeah, well, I wouldn't call it a favorite of all time, but I got some enjoyment out of cooking eggs in Heavy Rain.

I'm gonna wait for it to be cheap too.

It's Jane Jensen, of course it will.[DOUBLEPOST=1381281367,1381281319][/DOUBLEPOST]
It will be presented with 2048x1536 3D graphics, replacing the original's 640x480 pixel art.
And I'm out.

I don't know what you mean.
Most adventure games operate not on real world, real thinking logic, but on that of the person who created the game (this is of course, natural, since they made the game). You're more playing profiler to the way the designer thinks than using actual logic when solving puzzles in these games. Jane Jensen is one of the most egregious examples of this, especially with Gabriel Knight 3's infamous fake ID puzzle.

Based on this post I found this article. It illustrates your point nicely.

I've mainly heard good, but frustrating things about Beyond. Honestly that could describe Heavy Rain too so I'll wait to play it before making any judgements. And I'm not reading any reviews or anything. No spoilers. I went into Heavy Rain knowing nothing and that proved to be the best way to do it.

Most good adventure games give you clues to the puzzles, though, which you find through investigating. This could be a clue when you look at the item in your inventory, a piece of dialogue, etc. I don't recall Sins of the Father having any "dream logic" puzzles that you had to think of on your own. And you can't blame GK3's faults on its predecessors. I've heard that was a terrible game all around.

All puzzle games use dream logic, even the best ones. Grim Fandango, for example, is held up as the best adventure game of all time and it had some real fucking bananas puzzles that ended up with people just using everything on everyone.

Also,

Final Fantasy 6 is getting remade for iOS and Android devices. Here's an example of how FUCKING AWESOME Final Fantasy 5 looked:

Also, it'll probably cost 40 bucks.

Fuck Square.....get your life together.

But I can already play FF6 on my android phone. There's like a billion SNES emulators out there for it.

I dunno why but those character models are off-putting.

To me it's that they're on a 3d landscape, but the perspective is all off. The characters are all standing next to each other, but the landscape makes them look like they should be a mile apart. I can't stand it.

My main concern with this is that there is no talk of how profits would be split. Also, why the hell aren't they giving people access to some Square stuff? I can see protecting Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but why not let folks take on stuff like Vagrant Story? They certainly aren't interested in developing it anymore.

Though really, Vagrant Story is technically a Final Fantasy title anyway since it's part of the Ivalice Alliance universe. It might not be the best example.

I'm waiting for a new Final Fantasy Tactics game that isn't a shitty iOS rip-off of Suikoden's battle system.

I may have to resort to just playing War of the Lions again or buying a used copy of FFTA2. I like the pre-fall Ivalice* with all the different races in it, but the stories for the FFTA games suck.

*I'm going on the assumption that the Ivalice we see in the original Final Fantasy Tactics is the dark ages, where they talk about airships and robots being mystic relics, whereas the other games show us Ivalice in the time of St. Ajora when it was a thriving techno-magical wonder.[DOUBLEPOST=1381443795,1381443640][/DOUBLEPOST]
So people will give Square a good idea, which they can go fuck up.
