Okay, okay. Let's try that again. For REAL this time.

*ahem* BOOBIES!!

No, I don't think that's it, either.
Hey, hey, now. That dude just died. There's plenty of other boobies out there if you're willing to look, but show some decorum.

So, thanks to another snowstorm, I am "working from home", which means I'm sitting at home trying to debug code while helping a seven-year-old do morning work to earn video games while helping an eleven-year-old do algebra problems that require information that the teacher has apparently never provided.

Seriously, fuck this morning, fuck this day and fuck this entire winter.

Annd I called in for the afternoon. As much as I would love a vacation this year, it seems slightly more important that I not completely lose my shit with the kids.

Why is it so hard for people to understand what a correlation really is and how a "sound correlation" still only proves an association, not a real cause! ARGH!
I'm still trying to figure out what a sound correlation is. I think the person meant strong, rather than sound which makes him even more annoying to me.

"Sound" means "likely real". The correlation can be large or small. That isn't as important. And cause effect relationships can only be established when these criteria are met:

- There is a correlation between x and y
- x precedes y
- no other variables can possibly serve as a cause for y.

As to why people have trouble with it: There are several reasons, but mainly people are usually fixated an a believable cause/effect relationship and do not seek to discredit that.
