Video Game News and Miscellany

Honestly... this probably is THE way to get VR technology off the ground floor and into the mainstream as usable devices. That was never going to happen with Oculus working on their own. That doesn't change the fact that the company that is going to profit from this is probably going to misuse this technology.

Gal Civ III available on Steam. At over £75. For an Early Access game.

Who the fuck would pay that much for any game, never mind one that isn't even close to being finished yet?

*drool* Sounds like they've really improved on the web-slinging mechanics from the first one (and the first wasn't entirely terrible).[DOUBLEPOST=1395962178,1395961653][/DOUBLEPOST]A shorter look at the gameplay.

So they basically just copied the Arkham Batman games. Which is fine, if you're gonna copy a game, might as well copy a good game.

They mostly did that in the first game, too. I'm more excited about the improved web-slinging, multitude of costumes, and the variety of New York districts.

Oh, make no mistake, I think it looks good. I love Spider-Man, so I want a good Spider-Man game out there. I just hadn't played the first amazing spider-man game, and was taken aback by how blatantly Arkham everything was.

It really is. And to be honest, not as refined as the Arkham games, either. Even though they try so hard to be like the Arkham games, neither the stealth or the combat is even remotely as good.

That said, it's still a game worth at least one play through. I played through it on Hard, got all the trophies including Platinum, and then traded it back shortly after.

I still don't think I've played a better Spider-man game than the Spider-man 2 movie game. It was very sandboxy, had cameos from other Marvel heroes, and let you do what you wanted between missions.

Spider-Man 2 was the pinnacle of Spider-Man games for certain.

Coin miners are in a but of trouble with the recent ruling by the IRS that cryptocurrency is property not currency and they want taxes as such. It puts a huge damper on mining in the US.

FUCKING HOPEFULLY anyway.

It's more like a commodity right now anyway, like gold. If it fluctuated less it would actually be better.

Gal Civ 3 is out on steam as an early access alpha. I am really tempted to pick this up, but it's going for an astounding 100$

From what I've been reading, most of the companies using Steam Early Access are using it to keep their companies afloat during development because they lack outside funding. But I don't see the logic in buying a pre-release game for $100... I mean, it's EVENTUALLY going to go on sale. Who needs to play a game so badly that they'll pay that?

Oh right. Idiots.

It should be pointed out that this edition of Gal Civ 3 comes with any future expansions and DLC as well (also non-material rewards that people may or may not care about). They're expecting to release 5 DLCs a year at about $5 each, along with 3 or 4 expansions over the next few years at around $20 each. They're going to replace it later this year with a "standard" early access version that costs the same as the game will when released ($50), without anything more than than normal game.

Yeah, lets be fair to Stardock here. This is the company that has consistently refused to put DRM on their software, even after getting completely screwed over by pirates in their Demigod launch. They are a very good company.

I'd have bought Skryim for $100, but that's probably the only game I can say that about.

Someone bought SNES copy of Earthbound from me for $185 years ago. People are crazy.

Dunno if this was posted here but FTL is giving out a free expansion that lands on Apr 3rd to owners of the PC version.

I really need to get around to playing FTL one of these days. I have the GoG version, though, hope it gets the expansion too.

"Making specific games for a specific set of fans instead of trying to make everything one grey mass of "for everyone" will result in a better game and more loyal fans". Could've told them this 26 years ago. And I'm 29 years old.

I remember a quote from Roger Ebert that I'm going to butcher now in paraphrasing. He was talking about Spirited Away, and said that when he spoke with Miyazaki about the film, he had said the film was aimed at 10 year old girls, because he wanted to make a film for his daughter. Ebert said this is the reason the movie resonated so well with people, because it was -for- someone, and even if you're not that someone it can still touch you. Movies made for everyone are made for no one in particular.
