Video Game News and Miscellany

I feel like we should stop calling cdProjekt Red an indie artist. Every time I see reports about them or witcher, they always mention "indie developer cdproject red." They've been swinging for the fences with AAA quality every since they first came around, they've got mad talent, and are now a powerhouse of a studio.

But then again, they're both Polish -and- hate DRM. Hrm...
Instead, maybe those lines should say "indie development success story cdProjekt Red..."

No link because I don't want to give them traffic, but IGN used some shoddy sources to claim The Last Guardian was cancelled. Someone at Sony comes back within an hour or so saying "hey no it's not, stop that." IGN changes headline to TLG May Be Cancelled, and multiple reviewers/the lead editor of IGN go nuts with damage control.

Games journalism needs to diiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I'm pretty sure The Last Guardian is never coming out.

And honestly yeah, at this point it's DNF all over again. But that doesn't excuse false claims and bad reporting.
Basically this. If you can't back up your sources, don't fucking post it. It's better to miss a breaking story than ruin your relationship with a trusted partner.

They're really making it hard to take the phrase "video game journalism" seriously, which is definitely not what the industry needs.

Sims 4 is to be released in september. I wouldn't really give a crap other than that means probably the next installment of @Gusto 's Halforums House this fall!

*cough*Artificial Academy 2 comes out in 3 days.*cough*

This man speaks truth. We'll probably see Halforums House 4 before Halforums Academy 2.
The community might get the basic stuff translated within the first days (interface) but from what I read there is almost 3 times more text. Last one took a year to translate correctly.

Odds are a very basic translation will be done in a month then they will translate one type at a time.

AA is a high school simulator. I've played countless games with the hentai off. The shit that happens is awesome.

I probably got more entertainment by that game in one sitting than I ever will with Watch Dogs.

Well, that's because Watch Dogs is fucking soulless. I could not enjoy that game.

You don't have to really correct him, he knows. He was part of it, remember?

I have to admit I was surprised that the whole semester went by with no fight breaking out between Jay Sirius and Frank the Tank, though. Just shows ta go ya.

Is this where we geek out about there being a new Star Wars Battlefront? Because I wanna geek out about there being a new Star Wars Battlefront.

Haven't you heard? 30 fps is more 'cinematic' and 'looks better'.

Of course, I don't give a shit about Dead Rising 3 anyway, so...
1 was refreshingly fun... 2 was good until "special zombies" started showing up and Capcom pulling some stupid shit again.... 3 was on console and I'm mostly fuck consoles... PC port.... oh interesting.... "locked at 30 FPS".... which gives me mild headaches after playing for an hour? No thanks.

Oh, I had some enjoyment in Dead Rising 1 and 2 (though fuck the time limit mechanics in 2). But I lost all interest in 3 when they decided to start taking shit seriously.

This was kind of my problem with 3 too. Dead Rising needs to walk the fine line between "utterly ridiculous" and "Just sane enough to have a coherent plot". Dead Rising did it because Frank West didn't care about ANYONE but himself. Dead Rising 2 did it because the dynamic of Chuck caring for his daughter one second and going out to cross dress while performing pile drivers was hilarious. But Dead Rising 3 fails because the lead is so bland and boring that nothing he does matters in the slightest. He's not the self absorbed Frank or the caring dad on a mission that Chuck was. He was just... there.

Also, it was on Xbox One and fuck that noise.

I would've kept in the mall, the confinement was part of its charm. Also I could believe that an unopened burger would be lying around there, rather than just...lying on a street. For fuck's sake, at least make me break a crate first!

No... the small town angle was clearly the next evolution of the game design. I think part of the problem though was that the place was JUST big enough that you needed a car but JUST small enough that actually using one feels like a gimmick and not a necessity.

I kind of view State of Decay as the next step in the kind of game. It's clearly big enough that using a car is a must... but it suffers the problem that it doesn't have most of the kinds of buildings you need in a town that size. For god's sake, it didn't have a hospital OR a school.

I don't think it's locked at 30 fps, just optimized for it. You can play it at higher framerates with the option unlocked.
