Video Game News and Miscellany

I didn't say Del Toro was bad, just Kojima. Silent Hill has enough baggage without Hideo Kojima's fetishes.
I actually can't wait to see how he tops the rubber fetish nurses from the games. It's going to be some disturbing shit.

My REAL concern with the game is I think it might be going in an Outlast/Amnesia direction and I'm not sure I want that for Silent Hill.

You weren't kidding. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.

"Fucking brilliant! Mental! Brilliant! Bloody good show!" :awesome:[DOUBLEPOST=1407891094,1407891001][/DOUBLEPOST]

Shin Megami Tensei.
I've tried SMT and Persona, they're just not for me. I don't know what about them doesn't click, but it just doesn't.

Considering Kojima's fetish stuff, Silent Hill might be just right for him.

It did kind of look like that at first, but I wonder if that's just for the playable teaser. I don't think they'd go through the trouble of mo-cap/scanning Norman Reedus just to go first-person.

Is anything ever a PC exclusive for reasons beyond the game having not been ported to another platform yet? I haven't heard of anyone being paid to produce a PC exclusive.
No, that never happens. If something is PC exclusive, it's because it isn't conducive to the console experience, or has hardware requirements that consoles can't match.

IE, "PC exclusive" means "not dumbed down."

I prefer to say that PC exclusive means "uncompromised vision".

Also, developers do exclusives because Microsoft or Sony pay them to do it, whereas there is no "PC Company" to pay for exclusives for a game.

Actually, Microsoft used to pay devs to make games exclusively for Windows back in the pre-2000 days, when Apple was still kind of a threat. Of course, it's not a thing anymore.

I'm also pretty sure Radeon and Nvidia pay devs to design their engines around their 3D accelerator architectures.

Hidden Japanese pinups and incontinence for everyone!

People who've played the demo say it's plenty scary, so that's a good start.

Fucking Norman Reedus' stupid face though.

Looks like Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive on the XBONE 1.

Still a terrible decision.

Delaying your release on other platforms just kill your game's hype.

Check out the interview, these guys sound like fucking idiots.

"I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine." "I didn't buy it, it's not mine."

Speaking of Kojima, he announced a PC version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain at Gamescom today.

So, that strikes another reason for me getting a PS4 off the list.

Kojima does a "real world" spy thriller action series and fills it with inconsistent nonsense, baffling relationships between awful characters, and weird sexual issues, not to mention making the actual fighting part of the game intentionally punishing.

Now that he's been handed a supernatural psychological horror series? You'll probably wind up fighting a 30 foot tall robot Pyramid Head. In a 35 minute non-interactive unskippable cutscene.

...Honestly, that's not the most ridiculous thing Kojima's included into a Metal Gear Solid game, in my opinion. It's basically a new version of the porn mags you can leave out.
"Hey that cardboard box has tits on it. Let's go look!"

Seems pretty dumb to me.

Not just that, but also "Hey, this cardboard box has tits on it. Let's stay here and continue looking at it! Pay no attention to the guy who just came out from under the box and is now walking away!"

I watched a Let's Play of the new Silent Hill "interactive teaser" (which is called P.T., for those who have a PS4 and want to try it).

The chilling atmosphere, with its descent into madness, repeating hallways, and use of sound to unnerve you as the scares came forth? Great and did an excellent job scaring me.

The stupid obtuse puzzles that Kojima put in specifically to delay people for like a week before they reached the end and realized it was a Silent Hill teaser? That was dumb.

Let us hope that they stick more to the former than the latter, because it genuinely got to me, and let us hope that Guillermo del Toro ends up managing to counter the usual Kojima weirdness which wouldn't be conducive to a good Silent Hill game.

Super Smash Bros 3DS/Wii U, we're up to 37 characters. If they stick to Brawl's final roster number of 39, then my guess is that the last two characters will be Ness and Jigglypuff. However, since I think it's unlikely they won't include Ganondorf, the final roster number will probably be higher, which means no way of knowing when it's final until the game releases in Japan.

Also, this is coming to Europe:

I don't see why they'd put in Jigglypuff when they could do someone like Mr. Game and Watch or something new. But yeah... we're probably getting Ness and Ganondorf, maybe even the Ganondorf from the new Hyrule Warriors.

Obsidian is making a digital version of the Pathfinder card game.

OBSIDIAN ANNOUNCES PATHFINDER LICENSE

Obsidian to partner with Paizo Inc. to release electronic Pathfinder games

INDIANAPOLIS -- August 13, 2014 -- Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: the Stick of Truth and the Kickstarter phenomenon Pillars of Eternity, announced that they have entered into a long-term licensing partnership with Paizo Inc. to produce electronic games based on its popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game intellectual property

Obsidian's first licensed product will be a tablet game based on the highly successful Pathfinder Adventure Card game, a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players. Players each have a unique character composed of a deck of cards and a set of stats. Characters have classes such as fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric, as well as numbers that define attributes such as strength, wisdom and charisma etc. Players will be able to customize their deck to better suit each individual’s vision of their character.

"At Obsidian we have a long history of working with the greatest RPG franchises, and we're thrilled to get to play in the Pathfinder universe now," said CEO Feargus Urquhart. "We're huge fans and can't wait to bring what we do in the electronic gaming world to Pathfinder fans everywhere".

In the world of Pathfinder, players take on the role of brave adventurers fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil. The Pathfinder RPG is currently translated into multiple languages, with hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. The Pathfinder brand has also been licensed for comic book series, graphic novels, miniatures, plush toys, apparel, and is being developed into a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game.

"Obsidian is a video game developer at the top of its game", said Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens. "Being able to bring that type of experience and passion to Pathfinder can only mean great things, both for our loyal Pathfinder community and for all fans of great CRPG's."

Obsidian will be at Gen Con 2014 showing off an early prototype of the digital Pathfinder Adventure Card Game in the Paizo booth (#203) and in their own booth (#2151) featuring the first consumer hands on for Pillars of Eternity.

No wonder Chris Avellone mentioned playing a lot of the card game on the Watch Out for Fireballs podcast episodes he was on.

Everyone should subscribe to that podcast by the way, it's really great. They even interview Avellone twice, once after their Fallout 2 episode and once after the Alpha Protocol episode.

Steam patch yesterday gave it updated "visuals," makes it look more like the stupid "flat colored rectangles" fad that seems to be infecting every OS these days.

Apparently there IS a female Link, they call her Linkle. From the Hyrule Warriors art book -

Kotaku' Japan corespondent basically broke the hope on that one: the heading on the page translates to something like "unused" or "failed" character concepts. Basically, they were tossing around the idea of a younger sister to Link for Hyrule Warriors but they nixed the idea. Also, Linkle is just a bastardization of the characters for saying Little Sister and Link.
