The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

So I made a grocery list up for my daughter (age 8) to purchase at the store and included a budget to spend on each item. BUT I intentionally underbudgeted one item.

MY daughter caught the item in question and switched to a lower priced item then finished her shopping.

Now she just has to cook up the items for dinner!

Soooooo...I have a girlfriend, now.

And yeah, it's the girl from work. But she's...amazing. I don't know what it is about her. I smile just thinking about her. I've been helping her a few times with her 18 month old son, too, including driving her to the IWK's emergency because he threw up and seemed to be having a seizure (turned out, he had an ear infection in both ears). I stayed with her until pretty late that evening. And I swear, seeing and hearing her sing to her son to calm him down was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life.

I'm falling hard and fast here, guys, and that kind of scares me. But at the same time, I can't get enough of her.

Lust is easy. Love is work.

Just remember that there will be bad patches. And the strength of a relationship does not come from how you work together when things are going well, but when there are bad times. Always remember to fight for each other and don't sweat the small shit.

In my imagination, that was spoken from a rocking chair on a hot porch. Between tokes on a pipe the stem of which was pointed at Nick for punctuation.

Doesn't sound too bad actually. You should enjoy it :)

With a toothless grin a mason jar of shine and an old hound dog with lots of rusty cars on the lawn.

School is back in session, so maybe a 7 hour enforced break from each other will calm my daughter down now. If not, it's still a 7 hour break from each other. My son still has today off, but he's not an insufferable brat. ;)

I know that dopey feeling since I'm in that state too right now. Just enjoy it. I just had a text conversation with my new girl and we literally had the dumbest conversation about crust and sandwiches and when crust isn't or is appropriate and it left me with the biggest idiot grin on my face for no reason.

So I was out of the office on a work site today. Had to wear hearing protection for the first time in ages. When I pulled the foam earplugs out at lunch, a very large amount of wax came with it. Hearing much better now!

Hah, that reminds me... I'm a habitual user of Q-tips to clean my ears. I know, I know, you're not supposed to do that. But it feels SOOO GOOOD. Anyway, I was kinda worried that doing this might have led to impacted/built up wax around my eardrums because a lot of the time I don't hear so well. A friend of mine's wife works at an ENT clinic, so when I was over at his house, she just had a quick look inside.

To my surprise, she described my eardrums as clean, clear, shiny, and amazingly similar to pictures of what eardums look like in textbooks.

Welp, guess it was just the loud music when I was a kid after all. But it's nice to know my eardrums are archetypical.

My son was allowed to type his essays for the writing portion of his 6th grade standardized tests instead of being forced to hand write them like he had to for 3-5 grades, and he went from partially proficient to advanced!

This is why IEPs exist. So glad my mom got my all the special options for my ADD.

He wasn't allowed to do such in elementary school, because extreme dislike of handwriting (and inability to write small enough) apparently didn't qualify as enough of a physical disability to allow it. How his middle school special ed/teaching team managed to get it allowed this year I do not know, but I'll take it!

Also I definitely bragged to all his elementary school teachers when I went to pick up my daughter and I'm pretty sure they were more excited than I was. ;)
