Halforum Minecraft Server

On a random, not Halforum server thing, I started a Minecraft Realms server for my kids to play on, if anyone else wants to play with their kids on a server without worrying about random dick statues (I hope at least :p) or w/e, I can invite you to it. Though I am asking that it be for kids and a parent, and not lone adults just because my kids want invite space available for their friends also.

Also, I ask that said kids understand that stealing and griefing is wrong. ;)

I'll talk to Aussie about the pics later today. The only things of his I remember him showing me are the post office(?) and the iron golem farm.

OP Updated! Tagged people too. Not sure if Aussie has an account on here, so couldn't tag.

We still need a name for our old/current server world, and the new one. A couple of ideas:

Themélio - Greek for Foundation - We all learned a lot on this world. What can we build next?
Kástro - Greek for Castle - A lot of us had castles here
Castrum - Same as above, but Latin. See a theme here?

As for the new world, Ocean Monuments are things, so on that theme:

Caladan
Thálassa - Greek for Sea
Any of Neptune's Moons (of which Thalassa is one, which is cool)

Any other ideas are of course welcome. I'm just throwing stuff out there.

I'm terrible at naming places. That's why wherever I set up shop usually ends up named "GasBandia."

I'm way better at naming ships.

You should check out the labyrinths under it and nearby where he dug out all the material, too. The man loves to dig.

@PatrThom 's Underground Complex - I fluked out finding this. Almost no surface presence for this person. Found through a weird offshoot of the Nether Network.
That was what I was going for, to have a presence that was difficult to find from outside but vast once you got into it (you're supposed to step out of the central shaft into a vast, empty underground plain). Unfortunately this backfired on me since wandering explorers couldn't tell I was there (success!...waitaminit) and so built on top of me/drilled through the mountain above, and also because someone hooked me up with a nether portal (which I kept meaning to move upstairs to the smaller in-mountain base but never did). I never did finish incorporating @Dave 's railroad into a rail stop either, it was going to be really cool.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever Wasabi. Here's me being a dork and making an account so that I can post stuff and what not. Just thought that I post some pictures of other stuff that was done around the server, but I'm too noobish to do that yet. SO, I'll give some coords. First is in the nether 174/254/42, another is 1218/59/657 overworld.

I would also like to let everyone know that I built a mini shrine to the dragon egg just outside my nether portal. Enjoy, and thanks for letting me play with you guys!

Update for the main pictures: some extra images from Aussie's stuff, and everything is labelled except 2 things. The "Kelethin-like" stuff near spawn, and the castle north-west of Dave's place.

So if I can get who/what built those, that'd be great.

I think that might be @David. I'm pretty sure he walled off he village too.

Minecraft US Launch Temporarily Knocks PSN Offline story on TechRaptor.

Sony’s PlayStation Network was down earlier this afternoon following the US release of the popular open-ended building game, Minecraft.

This afternoon, around 1PM CDT, eager PlayStation 4 owners attempting to download Minecraft were met with various errors, including error code NW-31201-7. A Google search was able to reveal that the error code appears as the result of servers down or currently unavailable. Sony’s own PlayStation Knowledge Center error code search returned no results, however.

By 2PM CDT, PS4 users trying to log onto the PlayStation Network received a notification that PSN was down for maintenance, before service was finally restored roughly an hour later. Throughout the ordeal Sony’s PSN Status page reported that the service was operational. Access to PSN on the PlayStation 3 and Vita was unaffected.

Disappointed users took to Twitter to voice their frustration:
#psndown so often these days, playstation better be handing out some free ps plus for this. I feel like I backed the wrong pony again
— gareth cooper (@coopers41) September 4, 2014
How bad is psn though? Every day its down and no explanation, wonder if they will give us free days for every breakdown? @AskPlayStation #psn
— ASHLEY AMORE (@DJAshleyAmore) September 4, 2014
Others questioned whether the PlayStation Network would be able to remain operational during the release of Bungie’s highly-anticipated MMO-shooter, Destiny, on September 9th:
Looks like I'll have to wait a week to download Destiny. #PSN really need to step it up with their maintenance and security
— Takeo Kahn (@WetSparkK) September 4, 2014
I'll add my weight to the concerns about #PSN. If it can't handle Minecraft, I'm pretty concerned about it handling Destiny. @PlayStation

To their credit, Sony did acknowledge the situation and communicate their progress in resolving the problem with users on Twitter:
We are aware that there are currently some issues with accessing PSN. Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve the issues.
— Ask PlayStation (@AskPlayStation) September 4, 2014
This news today comes on the heels of a series of outages in late August, when an online group calling themselves the Lizard Squad executed a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on PSN servers; Sony later rendered the service inaccessible as scheduled maintenance was performed.

I've tried out the update. It is pretty cool so far. I like all of the new stone variants. and the F3 info has a few added features. I have yet to catch bunnies due to a lack of carrots. but otherwise it seems pretty stable. I haven't heard anything about server issues yet.

There has been "interestingness" with Bukkit, Spigot, and a disgruntled developer who has filed DMCA notices against them. The best way to read it IMO is:
Spigot original notice to community of DMCA
Spigot DMCA Response
Minecraft Dev Response about claim they endorsed this (they did not, and do not)

From what I can tell, the disgruntled developer (not even going to make him more famous by posting his name/pseudonym) claims that since the original projects are under GPL, and they distribute Minecraft Source Code (de-compiled, I think) in their projects, and since they aren't authorized to do so by Mojang (and he quotes something from Mojang, that is clarified to be wrong in the dev response), that those projects are distributing copyrighted material in violation of the DMCA. To remedy and comply with GPL they would need the Minecraft Server Code to be distributed/opensourced as well.

Now for my analysis: bullshit. First on the GPL thing: this would only apply one-way, if Bukkit code directly was in the Minecraft code, not the other way around. Secondly, tacit permission from the company to distribute a couple of the binaries is also not grounds for this.

It is extreme sour grapes from a developer, and this guy had better change his forum handle he goes by, and possibly even his real name if he hopes to get in on any future projects, anywhere.

OK, I think I'm going to go ahead and make a new server for 1.8. I honestly would have preferred to leave the original up, and have a teleport to the new area. I spent a lot of time on this server, and have some really good memories of it. It's where I learned a good chunk of what I know about minecraft. I'm just not sure how well the server would deal with that. With the problems we've had before, I don't want people to get going on new builds only to find out it's using a ton of resources that we don't have because the map is so spread out. Hopefully some time soon we can get them both up at the same time.

I've got it shut down now. I'm backing it up, and I'll try to get the new world up by about noon today. I'll post the backup for everyone to download, and get a final map of it built.

In other news that won't affect anybody

Minecraft: XBox One Edition is now available for $19.99 - however it is just $4.99 for XBox 360 edition "owners".

I put "owners" in quotes because it's fairly loose with that definition. I had always had a slight interest in seeing what all the hoopla is about, but never really enough to drop the 20 bucks on it for whatever platform. But with this I had an idea. One of the few games available for rent from your local handy Redbox kiosk is usually Minecraft: 360. So let's take a shot.

So - rent the game from a Redbox for $2. I got home & dropped it in the 360 & played thru the tutorial for a couple of hours. Now today - 24 hours later I check on the XBone and... yup, sure enough it's available for just $4.99. So ultimately $7 for Minecraft is a little more palatable to me.

Also, you can transfer all purchased DLC & worlds from the 360 to the One for free.

Carry on

@Dirona and I are at 15, 90, -400. Big rock spire. We are claiming lands around it, though borders are right now not distinct. We'll work that out.

Fun doing new.

I popped a nether portal at the spawn area, I didn't get it fully enclosed though, ran out of stone.

I'm currently at -1029, 88, 1005

Ooo, that is some prime real estate. Thought I had a nice place staked out...until I found torches.

EDIT: Found a village at 263,-722

I've barely ventured beyond spawn. I am a coward.
You and I might be sharing the same territory. At least, someone went deeper into the cave next door and turned off the spider generator.

I'm 475, -735 for the curious (and to avoid neighbor disputes).

Yeah, I'm at 345, -600, and I disabled a spider spawner. I built a little hut there, but that's all I've done. I'm not even sure how much I'll play this time around, since this semester is just starting, and I really should not be playing too much.

I'll let you have the area, and plan to move on.
