It was a brutal weekend as far as diet and exercise. Between my son's party, finalizing summer semester work, and being exhausted from the last two weeks of stress I did not eat well or get in exercise at all.

But it's a new week. Started today off with a healthy breakfast. I have a walk on the schedule for tonight after dinner. Tomorrow is bodypump. WOO!

Yeah well, that ^^^ didn't happen. Monday night I was in bed by 6:30pm because of a headache. I decided Tuesday was better for rest than working out.
Today, though, I did the bodypump class. At about 45 minutes in I was too hot and the ac vent was blowing directly on me. It made me light headed enough that I sat down for about 2 minutes. I think I had too much caffeine before class, too.

Well, I'm two months into doing my DDP Yoga consistently and eating better. Weighed myself today and...

At 220 pounds, I'm down 15 pounds in about two months.

Getting there.

Earlier this week, I decided to stop using Oasis juice in my protein shakes. I read the health label, which listed it with 26 gm of sugar per serving. That pales in comparison to how much is in Coke or something, but it's still pretty high. Besides, I get all the fruit benefits from the frozen fruit I use, already.

Just weighed myself again today. Down to 219. It's probably a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder how much a difference this change will make. I've known friends who were major soda drinkers that either reduced or removed their soda consumption from the diet and lost at least 5 pounds very quickly.[DOUBLEPOST=1411673006,1411672780][/DOUBLEPOST]You guys ever seen this? It compares various products that contain sugar with sugar cubes. Some of it's pretty surprising.

I had a similar experience to your friends after cutting out soda.

There's sugar in fruit but I'm sure oasis juice has plenty more in it. Ultimately a cup of this juice comes close to what you get calorie wise from soda.... So pretty pointless

The acid in soda is also bad for you if you're trying to build muscle mass, so I hear.
Honestly, it's bad for you in a number of ways. I can't imagine how someone can drink that on a daily basis. I lucked out that my parents refused to have it in the house when I was growing up. It was only for special occasions like parties, at the movies, etc.

If you believe in the countless broscientists out there, they'll invent any number of reasons why you can't build muscle mass. They're also the same group that will pay staggering amounts of money on placebo products if a juice monkey tells them it works.

I'm currently training on a hybrid program of bodybuilding and powerlifting. I'm hoping to get into strongman and Olympic lifting in the future when I have the time, money, and equipment. Going to train today with a split on arms/shoulder then H.I.I.T for 30 minutes, and in the evening it will be on my entire lower body. Overall training time will take about 4+ hours altogether. Hope everyone has a happy training day. :p

Just did the DDP Yoga Diamond Cutter workout very late tonight. With the week I've had, I needed to punctuate it with something good.

For the first time since starting this workout at the end of every week, I've struggled not only to get through the workout, but especially do the 10-second push up near the end. That's where you start in a full plank, lower slowly for ten seconds, hold for ten seconds just a few inches off the ground, push back up for 10, then lower for 10, and hold again for 10.

When I first started doing the Diamond Cutter, even on my knees I couldn't finish that goddamn 10-second push up. Throughout the workout there are several variations of push-ups:
-3-second push ups (piece of cake)
-Five exploding push ups (lower into a low plank, hold for five, then explode back up to plank; struggled, but I can do those now)
-Two 5-second push ups
-And that final god forsaken 10-second push-up. Last week, I was able to do half of it in full-plank and the rest on my knees.

Tonight? Not only did I do all the push-ups, but did it all from a full plank position.

BANG!!

What a weekend.

Did a 25K bike ride for Ride for Refuge on Saturday. Our teams raised over $5000 for Respect4Women (http://www.respect4women.org). Each $1000 allows them to run a 10 week group for abuse counselling so we basically filled out their funding for the year.

Did a 5K Run for the Cure (Breast Cancer) on Sunday and it was darned cold outside. 8AM in Winnipeg in October doesn't necessarily agree with me, wow.

And now, I am vacationing in my office for the week.

My current routine:

Sunday: 35-40 mile bike ride
Monday-Saturday mornings: 65 Situps, 15 leg lifts, 35 knuckle pushups
M,W (sometimes T/Th): 1.5 hr karate
T,Th: bike or run
F,S: Break, other than morning routine.

Unfortunately, I've gotten the guilt trip from some friends about taking time away from my family to workout.

Training on the bench press today. Peaked my strength for my 1RM @ 210lbs. for one on conventional, close, and wide grip variations. Former 1RM was 187 lbs. I'm very relieved I'm regaining my strength. Onward to benching 2 plates and increasing overall big three lifts to 1000 lbs overall. :D

Running a 5k for the Imagination Library in Selkirk Mb today. And it is cold as hell. Hopefully this will be quick.

Yeah, I've been trying mini fartleks and it's brought my time down a fair bit, still that last little hurdle to get over.

I am turning into a pumpkin... or some other round gourd. Recently had to go up a bra size. Muffin top's a little too muffiny. So I'm fixing it.

I brought my daily cardio back up from a half hour to an hour, restarted arm exercise 3x a week and am doing yoga at least once a week. It's sort of eating into my planning/grading/grad school time, but I really need it. I've missed it. I'm also getting a standing desk for my office. I'm doing so much more work now that I find myself at my desk more than I'd like.

Been packing sensible lunches and filled the fridge with healthy snacks. Jake's been really helpful. I have 0 time to cook, so he's been taking care of it and fixing me big bowls of salad for the week. I want to get back to where I was at the end of college--I didn't even miss unhealthy food. It felt so much better to eat well. It was easier to be moderate when I did splurge a bit. Nowadays things are so insane that I'm not focusing when I eat. I'm just working and shoveling and not being aware. I'm back to stepping away from work while I eat so I can pay attention to how full I feel. I think this is going to work. Finally.

It's a little after 6am it's 29 degrees Fahrenheit outside and my dumbass is up to do my first workout of the day....please,please,please kick in Mr. Beta Alanine!

My little win is that I'm starting to develop a bit of a six pack doing situps and leg lifts every morning. Kind of a 2-pack at this point.

Currently sitting at (workout weights, NOT max):
Squat: 270
Bench: 170
OHP: 145
Pendlay Row: 170
Deadlift: 315.

Gained some weight back since I was out of the game for a little bit, but hovering around 245 again. I NEED to step my running game up... but... sleeeeeeeep....

One day I'd like to see what my max lift for each is, just to see where I'm at... Would probably need a spotter, though... I don't trust myself not to injure myself.

PR's for 1RM -

Dead-lift 385 lbs
Squat 335 lbs
Overhead press (standing) 180 lbs
Bench (conventional) 220 lbs

Officer_Charon - Do your best to keep your fear at bay when you test your maxes, how you feel makes a noticeable impact on how well you perform. I suggest adding small increments of weight to every lift each time a rep is completed - 5lbs for overhead and bench, and 10 lbs for dead-lift and squat. Eating alot the day before you do a strength test is also recommended. Best of luck! :)

I asked Callistarya if I could post this. After her hysterectomy, she gained a ton of weight. The daughter-in-law gained a bunch after moving out of her mom's and in with us, because she was a starch-a-holic.

Before/after, 26 months, her and my daughter-in-law

Honestly, I don't even recognize my wife in the "fat" pic. She never looked like that to me when I looked at her. Love is funny I guess. :D

That said, she's pretty hawt now ;)

Niceeeee

My turn is coming up next week.

Jay Diet 3.0

Year 1 - Went from 245 to 208
Year 2 - Went from 228 to 206
Year 3 - Currently at 215... time to crack 200!

(mind you this is only a few months of dieting - I usually spot by june - and do baaaaaaaad things)

Love is funny I guess. :D
So is change blindness.

I keep meaning to do something like this myself, and I want to work up the guts to ask Kati if she wants to join me on my journey*, but we will see how that goes.

*Originally slated to begin 1st week of Oct, but delayed for an indeterminate amount of time until I complete an open-ended ... project I'm working on.

So, there's a new guy at work. He works out a lot, and works, or will be working, as a personal trainer. He's invited me to his gym to show me the machines and get me started on a fitness regime. He says I could get myself a four pack in about six months, among other benefits.

I really should take him up on this, my nearly 40 year old body would appreciate it. But there's that bloody inertia to overcome.
