Minor victory thread

No Ren Faires in D.C.? Speaking of D.C., I will be needing a run-down of restaurants from you, if you please. We're planning on going up there sometime next spring for the cherry blossoms.
There's a Maryland ren faire, but the one in Plantersville is the biggest one in the country (or 2nd biggest, depending on who you're asking). It just doesn't compare.

As for restaurants, I can only really give you the skinny on restaurants near the Teddy Roosevelt building (near the White House). But that's near most of the cherry blossoms so hopefully it'll do. Be aware that mostly I ate at places like Potbelly, Subway, etc. But here are some of the nicer places I've eaten at:

I've been to the texas one nearly every year for the last 10 years.

I still prefer the colorado ren fest. Texas is good, though.

I used to like the Texas one. I'm getting older and more crabby, I guess. Now I hate waiting 45 minutes in traffic in the middle of nowhere just to turn into the parking lot. Then the place is so crowded you can barely move, and it always seems to be hot. I don't mind heat, but there's just something about that combo of heat + 400 billion people + $7 water bottles that rubs me the wrong way.

Here it is 7:30, and I'm about to head home from work. But before I go I wanted to relay this slightly humorous true story.

I'm sitting here wrapping up the end of my production, when a girl I'd never seen before peeks in my office door. She's carrying a plastic tub full of promotional items (bumper stickers, T-shirts, etc) so I assume she's a new promotions assistant that I've not met. That's not uncommon, they're extremely part time and turnover is high - basically college kids looking for off-hours work schlepping our stuff to-and-from gigs and remote broadcasts.

So anyway, this gal leans in my door and asks me "Hey, do you know anything about computers?"

I'd like to remind you all that THIS is what my office looks like from the vantage of the door.

I just kind of look at her and blink a couple times, slowly turn and look behind me, taking in the computers, the parts, the monitors, the stacks of keyboards, switches, routers, power supplies, hard drives...

I turn back to her slowly with a smile on my face, and she's turning bright red realizing how dumb the question is.

But I'm gracious and shake her hand and say, "Hi, I'm the I.T. director. What's the problem?"

Dang internet culture, and text messaging, I just mentally read the D:\ at the end of the sentence as an OMG frowny face.
I have the same sort of trouble at work whenever they announce "the new hires." I keep looking for a new monitor or something.

Sorry to dash your hopes guys, but she's also below the (Age/2)+7 calculation, so no go. I don't chase 19 year olds.
Really that's more of a guideline...

Also, she doesn't fall into the proscribed range now, but one day she will. So think of any actions taken now as a, shall we say, pre-emptive strike for the future.

Well, the killjoy reason is also I'm not ready to move on yet.

But even if I were/when I am, I don't think I'd want to get involved with someone who is still a student.

It's a little creepy-but-gratifying that there's amateur slash fic being communally written about me, replete with terrible puns.

Ooh, can I audition for the role of I.T. director?

Just let me get in character.
