I'm horrified by this. But I'm just as horrified by abortion. I know many here support abortion, and the horror you are sharing in your posts to this thread smack of gross hypocrisy. Yeah, the thread isn't about abortion, but the hypocrisy overflows and I seem unable to resist the temptation to rant. So here it is.
I have a narrative that will flip this story around, causing ardent pro-choice supporters to feel sympathy for this woman, if it were true. This should soothe your conscience until the facts about this situation are known.
1) Third trimester abortion is generally not available in Canada. There's no law against it, but few hospitals, clinics, and doctors are willing to perform them.
2) This woman came into contact with many homeless people through her volunteer work.
If you assume the babies are from third trimester abortions this woman was providing to the indigent then she would find a lot of support among those who follow the "abortion on demand and without apology" crowd.

Canada has no limit on when an abortion can performed. However, most all doctors stick to the 'only before 20 weeks' thinking. The only time a doctor will allow a woman to get a third trimester abortion is in cases of mothers being at risk or the child being seriously malformed A relative had to have a third trimester abortion because the babies brain had not formed, for example.
If this woman was performing late term abortions it is still a crime. She is not a medical professional and she would have been putting the women at risk, for one. Secondly, we have free health care in Canada. If any woman she performed a hypothetical abortion for went to any hospital and they deemed the pregnancy a danger she could have had a safe procedure.

I am not good with vocalizing my thoughts and feelings on such short notice but, damn, this really rubbed me the wrong way!
I respect you opinions...but I find their sudden placement here to be in poor taste.
We're human, hypocrisy is what we do best. Before you judge too harshly though, look at you own stance on the death penalty and the right to defend yourself with deadly force. Yes, it's a stretch, but no more than the one you are making.
Not that I agree with it, but the argument can be made that babies are innocents, incapable of being guilty of the crimes leading to what would have someone put on death row or attacking someone.
Either way, it's a discussion that doesn't belong here at all.
