Dreamfall Chapters: Reborn

After replaying The Longest Journey and Dreamfall with my girlfriend, we've started on the crowdfunded sequel. Haven't gotten too far, but it looks great and has some cool things going on already.

Storytime!Zoe has superpowers and is running around between people's dreams saving them? Sweet.

Super Smash Bros Wii U

It's Super Smash. It's great. What else needs to be said?

Ran into my first dragon in Dragon Age Inquisition. It proceeded to murder 3/4's of my party in one flyby. Varric, the sole remaining party member, turned tail and booked. Good old Varric.

Is that the one in the first area, the Hinterlands? If so, he's like level 12 where the vast majority of everything else in that zone is level 8 or lower. He did the same thing to me when I stumbled upon him at level 8, just absolutely annihilated me. I waited until I was level 11 then went back and killed him, barely. Like, 2 party members dead, out of potions and at about 30% health when he finally died.

Dragon fights in this game are challenging. I've fought three so far and it's always been a close deal. They've used different tactics too so every fight feels different.

Played about 4 hours today of DAI.

Gotta say, the MMO comment are pretty much on point. Holy shit, my quest log.

They really took the comments of the sad linearity of DA2 and made huge zones.... cool....my issue though? The filled it with soulless generic crap. Get 8 of this, 6 of that. Find 29 portraits. Go see the Horse guy. Oooops! Quest hub, enjoy 5 more fetch quests. We need 8 ram meats. We need 12 dead bandits. Fill orders.

I feel this is gonna get tedious fast.

Gonna tyr MP tonight.

Tedious--that is the perfect word for this game. This is exactly how it feels just from watching my wife play. Lots to do, and much of it can't be skipped (thus lengthening the game), but it's not interesting. Game's fucking buggy too. Enemies keep vanishing, only to come walk-flying through mid-air in other directions a moment later. Game freezes on save.

On the upside, I increased the screen resolution so most of the text can be read and the game looks a little less shitty. Which means she's going to keep the game and keep going, so I'm going to stop mentioning that it seems really lame aloud to her. Just let her enjoy her crap and hope I get Shadow of Mordor for Christmas.

For starters, you can snag 3 or 4 more party members fairly soon after moving on with plot. Also learn that Cullen is a racist and won't hook up with dwarf chicks. :'(

Played about 2 hours of DAI MP.

It's pretty solid all in all.

Personally, I like ME3 MP Horde gameplay much better but it's still decent.

It only has 3 tilesets with the same type of linear dungeon crawl gameplay. The map does vary though. I hope more come out.

They still haven't learned from their mistakes from ME3. Connecting is still VERY difficult. Connect to Quick Match, you hear sounds... poof, "connection failed". THEN IT RELOADS THE GAME. WHY? No one joins my public games. Certain hosts are with Comcast and thus suck hard with lag and "host has left" "host migration failed".

GG.

Though XP/Gold still follow you, so that's cool.

I just find the combat in this game much weaker than in DAO and by thus everyone DPS anything, things just die... or if too hard, YOU. Targeting is lame.

LVLed up an archer to LVL 9.

WANT TO USE YOUR AWESOME SHOT.... OOPS, your mouse isn't on target. Aiming closest target instead.

"Vase has been blown up."

Welp.

Archer/Champion/Mage guy are the default classes of 12. Feels awkward when 2 identical archers are in the same game.

You collect cash from loot and buy from the store with it. It's random as fuck.

So far, I got a minor bow upgrade, no parts (salvaging is weak), no armors, no accessories. So if anything touches me, I blow up.

This is on easiest difficulty for 1-8.

Will try more tomorrow, along with MMO Hinterlands.

Leaving the Hinterlands opens up new areas, assignment missions, camp dialogue ... yeah, leaving there was the best move. My wife's heading to Orlais next to try and sweet talk the Chantry.

Out of curiosity, how essential is it to have played DA2? I might get DA:I someday, but I'm not interested in playing the second game.

You have practically no influence on the story in DA2, so just read a summary somewhere and you're good. Your main impact there is your romance options and the fate of your sibling, and since those are things you can fill out on the Dragon Age Keep backstory generator, you're missing pretty much nothing.

I finally got off my high horse with DA:I and got onto the medium horse. Game runs much better now. Like Jay, I'm coming to realize my 2500K system is getting a little long in the tooth (especially the lack of SSHD) and I will be needing to upgrade soon.

Though never set the meshes to medium, no matter how shitty your pc is, the shiny, ultra-gel, helmet hair is not worth the slight performance boost.

The game runs like shit as well.

Crashed a few times for me. Get into MP games with nothing on my ability bar. Falling through the world.

Meh.

I played about 6-7 more hours of the MP and all in all, I have to say I like it less than ME3's MP. I don't know why but It feels very grindy. SO MUCH RUNNING.

And unlocking chests ingame and with your hard earned cash feels... I dunno... underwhelming.

There is a frame rate issue that you can resolve with adding something to the command line, and if you have up to date AMD drivers there's a crash bug because they updated the drivers right before DA:I's release and there's a workaround for that too. I can't look right now because I am driving to the mountains for the weekend.

Okay, I get why the graphics on the PS4 version would be better than on the PS3 version ... but why is the sound better? Makes no sense; there shouldn't be a difference.

They really mangled the PS3 version. Not as bad as the PS3 version of Shadow of Mordor, but I don't understand why cross-gen games have last-gen versions that look worse than most last gen-games, like they were purposely downgraded to boost attention for the newer versions. Almost like this new gen was unnecessary, but they're making it necessary by shitting up the cross-gen releases.

HMMMM.

As a PC gamer...

Yeah, then I'd have to do upgrades every 2 years instead of every 5.
My last gaming rig lasted about 5 or 6 years before I felt like I needed to upgrade. The upgrade every 1-2 years thing is a myth console peasants tell themselves to make them feel better :p

It's been the case for me. I've purchased two gaming PCs in the past; both shitted out right after the warranty expired.

The $500 AlienWare "console" looks pretty sweet, but I've made my choice. Looking forward to Evolve and No Man's Sky. We actually got the PS4 that came with GTAV and The Last of Us remastered free, neither of which I care for. Gamestop's actually offering more credit for GTAV than it's going for on eBay, so I'm going to take it with me tomorrow to trade and put the money towards Evolve for the exclusive dick in my mouth monster pack.

Don't know what I'm going to do with The Last of Us remastered. It's a download code and I just don't love the game like everyone else.

You really only need to upgrade every two years if you want to play everything at it's absolute highest settings... but really, it doesn't matter anyway because the PC version of those games will look better anyway, even on older parts.[DOUBLEPOST=1417231914,1417231802][/DOUBLEPOST]

Well there's your problem... Alienwares are DESIGNED to shit out on you after a few years. You need to build your own box... you get a much better, stronger system for less.

My old GTX 570 was still playing everything on ultra up until around this year, and even after it still looked great. And I got in around 2010.

I've never bought a prebuilt gaming rig, just parts.

Anyways, I finally fucking killed that son of a bitch dragon in the Hinterlands. Me and Dorian were both specced out as ice mages and that made...pretty short work of him. Only difficult part was some God damn templars just strolled into the middle of the fight and joined in on the dragon's side.

Also, anyone playing Dragon Age feel like the ice mages are seveeeerely undpowered compared to storm or fire? Except against dragons apparently.

Storm mages just drop upgraded static cage and watch enemies skins just melt off.

Only if you're a fanatic about 60fps framerates and maximum resolutions. My PC lasted a good 4 years before I had any games that dropped below a decent framerate at 1280x720, and a good deal still ran fine at 1920x1080.[DOUBLEPOST=1417236675,1417236523][/DOUBLEPOST]

And there are people who went through 3 or more Xbox 360s during it's lifetime. Hardware failure is not unique to PCs.

I would've quit when the second Xbox died, but some people are obsessive.
