What are you playing?

My last gaming PC before this one also lasted almost 7 years (though I did have to replace the power supply once when it died), and I'd still be using it if the video card hadn't died. It was still decent on most things. I expect to use the one I have now unupgraded until probably the end of 2015, at which point I'll be getting a stronger video card to make proper use of the Oculus Rift I intend to get when it launches :D

I might get some more ram before then though.. I've only got 8 gigs at the moment, and editing video is surprisingly ram-thirsty - way more than any game I've played lately.

I got into an argument about PC v console with Gilgamesh once. I put my money where my mouth was and built a sweet gaming PC. I still prefer the console. Basically, I see very little difference. The games are prettier on PC, but then I sit farther away with the console, so potato-poTAHto. The sound's an even match. The console wins for sheer convenience (I'm a filthy casual who only gets an hour or two a week for gaming) and the force feedback. I like the force feedback a lot. And, yeah, I know there's a selection of PC games that support it with the right hardware, and all I have to do is go buy more stuff.

Fade hates everything good, therefore pc is better. QED.

Yes, it's the prevalent choice among casuals to like consoles better than PCs.

Christ, did some of you move to Portland? 'Cause you're acting like a bunch of hipsters.

Also remember, you don't love music unless you listen to it on vinyl, you don't love movies unless you've built your own home theater with a projector, and ebooks aren't real books because you can't smell up the dead tree.

The right hardware is to use the controller you use on your console. Just sayin'.

Dragon Age: Inquisition: Wife is back to where she was on the PS3, so that's cool, but she's also met more people.

I have a lore conundrum though. In the previous Dragon Age games IIRC, when someone died it would be said they were in the Fade or "with the Maker." Now in this one, people in the Chantry seem to specifically say that the dead who held the Maker in their hearts will inherit the Golden City.

... except that conflicts with the origin of the Darkspawn--supposedly the Golden City is no more, now the Black City where the Darkspawn come from. I know, it's all religion even in the game, but some of it must be real since the Fade is fucked up and there are demons. So I don't know where they think this other Golden City is.

Yeah, not to mention "a small selection of games support it" actually means nearly every game. Just plug an xbox or a playstation controller into your pc and bam, it works.

Also, for people who think we're being elitists, you realize that a lot of this is just fun hyperbole, right? I don't actually care if people prefer consoles or not, hell I'm planning on buying a WiiU.

But it really is better on PC.

I think the implication is that the righteous get to fight for the Golden City to reclaim it and eventually reclaim paradise, while everyone else gets to fuck off.

It can be for being silly and still be hipsters. Hell, I can do it in the discussion on people not knowing Smash Bros characters. Speaking of which, yeah, Wii U games are totally better on PC. :p

Well, that's ass, they don't tell you that even after you die you still gotta work for it.

I'm going to admit one thing, DA:I is nowhere as exciting storyline wise compared to the Grey Warden's/Darkspawn shit.

As far as I care, the Templars, Seekers, Mages..... can all go shove sticks up their collective asses.

I said a "small selection of games" because that's what a quick google showed me. Also the console controller works if your console is an Xbox. If it's a PS3 you can use a buggy crash prone driver like MotionInJoy, which I have. It doesn't work right out the box. I mean, it's not like that wasn't the first thing I tried.

I know you guys are playing around and so am I. I'm just telling you the pros of a PC don't do much for me and the pros of the console do. I acknowledge and am fully aware that you can force a PC into the console mold.

I don't think anyone is keeping accurate track of that. Most console ports these day have rumble for the controller, if you're using an Xbox 360 pad at least. In fact, I can't think of any games I've played that I've expected rumble, but not had any. (Short list: Lego games, Saints Row 3 & 4, Costume Quest 1 & 2, Bastion, Brutal Legend, Darksiders, Trine 1 & 2)

I was wracking my brain on how to get a final shard in the Forbidden Oasis in Dragon Age (by the way, fuck this zone in general). No matter what I did, I could not figure out how to get a single shard high up in the middle of the zone. I ran around looking for any way up. There was no where I could jump that could reach the ledge. It was getting infuriating. Then I remembered my mount can jump further than my spindly little mage. Fuck. FUCK. There's so little reason to use the mounts that I forget that I even can.

Another legitimate gripe is the amount of quest related items that just get chucked into the random sell shit section of your inventory. I have liked 12000 quests going at once and I fucking HATE it when I end up selling a bunch of the items for some obscure quest I've forgotten about and only realize it much later when it's too late to buy them back.

Also, Freddy Prinze Jr. is the Iron Bull. Good for him, this time he's an interesting character in a Bioware game and he does a good job.

The Binding of Isaac: Fun! I'm liking all the weird power-ups and visible changes as you progress, but I keep taking too many chances.
BoI is all about taking measured chances. Pills can make you stronger, but can also completely fuck you over. Devil Deals are usually worth it, but only if you can survive having fewer hearts and Holy Artifacts have no downsides (but you can't get them unless you don't take deals). Ironically, gambling is usually worth it because you really don't need more than 15 cents at any given time but you can always use the hearts, keys, and bombs.

I recently learned that I am more of a gamer than a pervert.

For my latest playthrough of Skyrim, I decided to go all-out pervert, and installed a few sex mods from a site called Loverslab. (Just in case you're not aware, googling and visiting Loverslab should be considered highly NSFW). After about 10 hours in, I decided to remove them. They're interesting enough, I suppose, and honestly they're not just titillation material, they do add some new gameplay elements to the game. But apparently the QA at LL isn't as high as, say, the Nexus, because I kept getting crashes and bugs. It wouldn't be a problem if the player's objective is simply to go around boinking all the NPCs they can find, but I actually want to play and make progress in the game, and the sex mods were getting in the way of that.

So in the end I decided that playing Skyrim is more important than mindless sex with NPCs. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I learned that I am more of a gamer than a pervert.

Still keeping all the stripperific armors though.

This is my entire hour and a half experience on Dishonored so far:

Okay, I'll just sneak up on this guy and FUCK EVERYONE SEES ME KILL ALL THE PEOPLE!

I've managed two knockouts amongst a sea of death. Hopefully I'll improve at that.

Got Mario Kart 7 at Nintendo World, beat two ghost trials. Feeling pretty cool about that. Also I LOVE The customizable kart system, I will be experimenting with it FOR ALL ETERNITY! Especially to figure out what is the best combo to get a triple star in 150cc , DOUBLE STAR IS THE RANK OF SHAME!

Yoshimickster's kart logue, figured out I need 40 points AND 50 coins to get a triple star rating. I did this unconsciously in the 50cc and 100cc tracks, but now as I know what to do it is all I think about. Kart madness is setting in.
