Just the other week I was ridiculed for casually pronouncing "trebuchet" as "tray-bucket," which was the way I'd always read it in my head.

After all the times I had smilingly corrected Pauline's english pronunciation (which was often hilariously wrong - "What's that RTS you liked to play so much, Command and Canker? Or that MOBA, Lord of Leggins?"), she was delighted when she found out I never knew how to properly pronounce "mauve." I had been saying "mwahv" up to that point, she took great pleasure in pointing out it was pronounced "Moh-v." Of course, some years ago I found we were BOTH pronouncing "lazuli" wrong... Lapis "LAH-ZOO-LEE" rings in everquest and so on. Turned out, that's "Lazsh-you-lie."

In other news, it always offended me greatly that the Trebuchet mech was not a heavier version of the Catapult.

So many pronunciation problems in the last play I was in, but I think the ones that grated on me the most were "peaked" (as in sickly) and "livery", the latter exceptionally so, because even after the actor got it right, he still gave the line an odd inflection because of how much work he was putting into not saying it wrong.

Neither is anyone else.

That said, there's been more than the usual amount of vinegar being slung around lately, and we find ourselves in a bit of a pickle as a result.

I am happy with a fair share of criticism. There isn't a demographic/culture/race/religion/creed/sex/human-group that is without fault. I am just a little worn down by the massive load of negativity lately. I think that certain topics can be debated and discussed, but unfortunately this forum isn't one of those places. I should know better to even click on certain links. I guess I will stick to movie threads and other threads that aren't so political in nature.

Apparently I've been mispronouncing mauve and lazuli wrong also. "mawv" and "la-zoo-lee" just seemed natural compared to "mohv" and whatever.

The real kicker is I'd also heard it pronounced right, and never made the connection. The Lazuli were the "rival" family on meerkat manor.
