Random Video Game Crap

It always strikes me, whenever I hear a parody of it, that Tik Tok is actually a very catchy and musically impressive song. It's too bad the original's ruined by who sings it and the original lyrics. The parodies always sound way better.

Nintendo added a couple Majora's Mask themes for the 3DS. One is a dick move of looking like the gold New 3DS that sold out in 15 minutes.

The other is based off Majora's Mask 3D's gorgeous box art, showing a bunch of the characters, while playing the Song of Healing. I bought it and had a little nostalgia meltdown. I'm a little sad I won't be getting the game tomorrow, but I will get it later in the year and it'll be just as good then.

d'awww. I feel for them. I honestly do. Resentment, hate, mocking, glee at their coming demise, and stuff, mostly, but I do feel for them.

[DOUBLEPOST=1423842878,1423842571][/DOUBLEPOST]This guy utterly lambasts Evolve. I dunno, I'd take his opinion more seriously if he didn't sound like a complete wanker that hates everything and can't articulate a coherent thought to save his life.

I stopped the video when he start shaking his Playskool phone with a real bell inside.

I'm not going to get into why the DLC doesn't matter; if people want to drill their brains over pointless nothing content, go right ahead.

As far as the game being the same each time, no. It depends on who you're playing with, and even with the same group, it goes differently. That's the beauty of human interaction.

As far as it being the Tank battle from L4D, and being a game you'll just play sometimes? Yes, that's accurate. I played a lot this week, but I also had a lot of steam to blow off this week and I don't know that I'll keep at it as much once I've downloaded Monster Hunter. But it will be a game I'll play here and there. It's not worth $60; get it on a sale. I totally agree with that sentiment.

I also agree the guy sounds like a wanker.

I don't know what it is, but whether it's Jim Sterling, or this guy, or Last Stand Gaming, or Scott Manley, or even going back to Yogscast... there are just some accents I can't stand hearing. It seems to mostly be lower class UK accents, now that I think about it. It especially grates on me when they repeat themselves over and over again. Take that guy in the worthabuy video I just posted. Count how many times he says the exact same phrase 3 times within 10 seconds. Drives me up the freakin wall. I even made a youtube video once lampooning conservative commentator Mark Steyn's propensity for doing exactly that -

It's not even the accent for me; just the way he behaves. Maybe it's a combination of the two, actually. If he didn't curse so much, he wouldn't have to squeeze the F in fuck through his teeth with such exaggeration.

I've said before that I like Jim Sterling and honestly don't know why others find his voice annoying. I appreciate him for never taking himself seriously and that he often (not always) raises good points.

Personally, I can't stand listening to Thunderf00t, who I swear is the main source for anyone defending GamerGate. He sounds so goddamn smug in everything he says.

That's probably part of it, too. There's nothing more lower class than excessive swearing. It's can be the difference between being Ernst Blofeld and the obstreperous chav who's never been further than 2 blocks from the route between his mother's house and the closest pub.

Couldn't finish it. "You've got the Trapper, and ...ah, I'll just speak in English, use the normal terms. So, you've got a DPS guy, and...[...] he's a tank character, basically. next is the trapper, who eh, traps, and...." GAH. He explicitly says he's not going too use in game class names, then does EXACTLY that. He only doesn't mention one class's name, which is apparently a tank, and a DPS. which he explains. Either "DPS" is "normal english" now and you don't need to explain, or your review would've been better off not using that term "to avoid using the class names".
Also, his excessive swearing is a turn off...And if you're going to swear, don't bleep out every, what, fifth swear word? That's ridiculous.

Thunderfoot's accent gets to me a little bit too. Though it's not his smugness. Probably the most smug guy around is Yahtzee and I have no problem listening to him. Totalbiscuit's another one that grates on me.

This forms uncomfortable cognitive dissonance in my mind. I'm a huge monty python fan, I love Blackadder, and Fawlty Towers, and many other British comedies. Scottish accents never give me trouble in movies. I even found the chavviest of chav accents charming in Guy Ritchie flicks. But these guys? Oigh. Nails on a blackboard.

Yeah, I like Yahtzee, too. But I think he's a better wordsmith than Thunderfoot or Totalbiscuit. I can't stand hearing TB, either. I don't understand why he's so highly regarded, honestly.

Techraptor gives it a 6.5 (which is a "good" rating) They say it is "fun when it works but has a habit of being hurt by its own ambition. Play with friends to get the best out of this game."

Better than most people in general, really - and I think he puts a lot more prep work in to become so. Unlike the others who usually seem to do their commentary off the cuff and without a script, Yahtzee, by necessity of his "zero punctuation" format, must script out his thoughts and write and rewrite them over and over again until it sounds right, then goes through heavy amounts of production (no doubt) to get the final product. That's a lot more thought and energy than just rambling with the mic on. I can tell you from my own experience. Compare all the "ums" and awkward pauses in my early tutorials where I was doing the voiceover in real time as I played vs my later tutorials (or probably best, my review for Fallen Enchantress) to see what a difference scripting and producing the voiceover separately from the video makes.

What I see people saying online a lot is complaining that the other side is OP. Being new to the game means being bad at it. It asks a lot of you, which would be fine, except it's not quite giving enough back. Dark Souls, for example, is demanding on the player, but the rewards are worth it. Evolve is not as demanding, but is even less rewarding.

But a hunter group made up of people who know each other and work together? That sounds like a challenge I'd love to face as a monster. I've gotten pretty damn good as the monster, so facing hunters who know what they're doing has become more of a treat than facing idiots who split up and let me pick them off, or panic when they've trapped themselves in a bubble with me.

Sips tries out Besiege. I like Sips because he's openly not a great player. But he does make it entertaining with his genuine enjoyment. His Don't Starve Let's Plays are particularly fun.
