Wait. She didn't know it was even a word or what it meant? So she's either talking gibberish or stupid. Let's look at her bio:

Kristi Marie Capel is a beauty queen from Springfield, Missouri who has competed in the Miss USA pageant. A native of Florence, Kentucky who later moved to Missouri, Capel won the Miss Missouri USA title in a state pageant held in late 2005.

Beauty queen? Check. From Kentucky? Check. Went to a private christian college for her "education"? Check. On a Fox affiliate? Check.

Ladies and Gentlemen! We have the moron and racist SUPERFECTA!

What's the point of even having a governor? Except for budget bills, WV only requires a simple majority to override any veto.

Which means the bill criminalizing the ACA is sure to become law. At least until SCOTUS steps in to tell the legislature how fucking stupid they are.

Prisoners at the Willacy County Correctional Center in Raymondville, Texas, started rioting Friday morning after refusing to eat breakfast or report to work.

Nearly 2,000 male prisoners took over the prison and set fire to three of the ten prison tents causing minor damage. They also damaged the plumbing and heating and cooling systems making the prison uninhabitable. Using pipes as weapons they maintained partial control until Saturday.

The riots were a result of poor living conditions that the prisoners had to endure. Problems include a lack of proper medical care, overflowing toilets and sewage that seeps into the living areas, and guards interfering with prisoners seeing their lawyers. Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) detailed unsanitary living conditions and poor medical care at the prison.

The “Criminal Alien Requirement” (CAR) facility is private immigration detention center operated by Utah-based Management & Training Corp. They are among the only federal prisons operated by private firms rather than as federal institutions under the direction of the Bureau of Prisons.

Most of the “low-level” offenders housed at the facility are immigrants who entered the United States illegally.

All 2,800 prisoners will be transferred to other facilities this week.

Would you see that as an example of the dangers of privatization of prisons, and/or other services traditionally handled by the government?

The difference between anarchists and libertarians is that libertarians acknowledge that government does indeed, however limited, have a role. Law enforcement is one of those roles. Incarceration should fall under that umbrella. Consumers can't "vote with their feet" when it comes to prisons, so the balancing action of competition and markets does not apply.

Heh, considered putting this in the Awesome Videos thread but since there are...some members of this forum that would want to make political statements on seeing this and that thread ain't the place for that it's going here instead.

Apparently there's a Brazilian politician who wants to create a "Heterosexual Pride Day". After they got done rolling their eyes Brazil's gay community decided to make a Youtube video about it.

My favourite bit,

"Would you believe there are people against our straight relationship?"

"Like...who?"

"All of your ex-girlfriends...and your mum."

Nothing about the Net Neutrality vote? I just don't know who you people are anymore.
I saw GasBandit post about it somewhere, but can't remember where. I hope the vote sticks; greedy ass companies should've been happy with what they were getting.

On another note, supposedly DHS is going to lose its funding in six hours so we can have a mini-repeat of October 2013's shutdown. To protest Obama's directive to let more illegal immigrants stay, they want to cut funding to the division that makes them leave.

So since they're not doing their job, who'll notice the difference?

To people who don't know what goes on in immigration, that would seem to be the case.
Then there are the people who don't know what goes on in a shutdown (though last year's shutdown should have educated them).

Hint - 90% of what goes on as normal, plus a heaping helping of "we went out of our way to specially inconvenience people."

As referenced elsewhere, "shutting down" a state park means they hire MORE people to make sure nobody can use it... not that they just go home and leave it to the tender mercies of whoever wanders in.

Err, is this actually another full shutdown? I thought it was just DHS.

But you're correct, this is going to cost taxpayers more than otherwise.

Since I find the whole DHS thing a huge pile of bullshit designed to perpetuate this ridiculous "War On Terror" TM, I'm having trouble giving two fucks.

That'd be fine, except DHS doesn't exist in a vacuum. It has tendrils in other aspects of government.

I'm just noting the weird contradiction for the Republican party. At the same time, I guess it's to their benefit. 2013's cock-up was their fault, and then they did well in the 2014 mid-terms. Maybe they're hoping another stall out against Obama will win them 2016. Stamping their feet and shouting "No!" is a lot easier than taking the time to analyze where their party is going wrong to avoid putting out another Mitt Romney.

And I think that's the case as well. Wednesday's Daily Show had the perfect opening to illustrate that.

I may have jumped to conclusions--apparently even Republicans in Congress don't like Boehner.

Though now Congress is passing the buck to itself from one week to the next. Eventually they're going to be proud of themselves for passing April 13th's budget on April 12th, with April 14th still up for debate.

We haven't passed an actual budget in almost 10 years.

Passing the one week stop gap happened with the help of the democrats based on the agreement that the full funding bill would be voted on in the coming week. Basically it was just to get the time for an actual funding bill and prevent even a partial shutdown which I'm actually okay with since it isn't meant to be an actual funding measure.

Because they couldn't do it now, because of all the bickering and bullshit. I'm not saying they shouldn't do a temporary movement of the deadline; it's just pathetic that it keeps coming down to the deadline.

It definately is unfortunate that they couldn't just pass a clean bill but unless Boehner goes and does something cute the clean bill will pass next week and the system worked without a shutdown.

I say shut it down. Useless shits don't even enforce the laws. I guarantee you, if you take them off the leash (without the federal government getting its panties in a twist and coming around with lawsuits), the border states will police the border just fine.

Well, not counting california. But they're wide open by choice already.

So since this is the political thread, @GasBandit what do you think about hb910 and sb17 which are both making their way through the house and Senate (in Texas) and have a decent shot at getting passed
