Minor victory thread

Owed $197 to federal thanks to the ACA, but my taxes are done. A $200 tax bill is peanuts compared to the $6K hospital bill that got cut down to under $400. :p

State is a $79 refund, which will probably be offset now that that refund is fair game for outstanding student loan debt. a debt which will not be paid due to a longstanding dispute. When I'm in Florida and you tell me any appeal has to be done in person in Chicago, you can fuck right the fuck off.

Man. In the last 2 days of my option period on the house. Got the sellers to agree to a 4k concession. In this market, I'm ecstatic to get that. Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope I get my tax return in time. Really counting on that for some repair work that's needed. Exciting time. Moving into the barrio, but hey, I love me some good tamales. Also I live in Texas, in this state you either live in the ghett0, the barrio, or in boring as hell white person land.

Does that last bit refer to gated suburbs, or to ranches out beyond the horizon?

Disney reservations are evil! We booked like 5 months in advance and still only got a 3:45 pm supper at Cinderella's castle.
The secret is 180 days out (6 months) for Disney World. Also, go ahead and place the deposit on your stay with Disney, that allows you to book 180+10, 180 days in advance of first day, plus you can make reservations for the next 10 days at the same time, so you could end up making some ressies as early as 190 day out. That's how you get the good times.

Suburbs. Boring boring suburbs with boring suburb houses and boring suburb people. I get the value of those if you have a kid in school, I really do, but for now I want excitement. This house isn't boring in the least. For one it has asbestos!

And break-ins! Those are always a laugh!

Over the weekend, got our airport parking for the trip to Disneyland reserved (two free days!) and the hotel for the late arrival night at LAX taken care of. Now to get the rental car for the last day reserved (we have a free upgrade) and everything is set in place for the whole trip. Oh, and make the final payment on the park tickets and hotel through Disney by the 19th. It's all coming together.

Grandfather just got out of surgery. They removed his bladder and prostate, but fortunately they say no sign of cancer outside of that, and he seems to have tolerated the surgery pretty well with not a lot of blood loss. He'll be in the hospital for a couple weeks recovering.

While I was writing a response to the weekly discussion in the classwork part of my internship I started to really feel like I knew what I was talking about. Everything in this answer came together like I have been working in the field for a while. It clicked and felt so damn good to know that I am not just regurgitating theory or what's written in a journal article.

Hey buster, "regurgitating theory or what's written in a journal article" is my bread and butter!

You're a grad student?

One of my least favorite things about grading graduate tests is dealing with the smarty pants who don't know the answer to the question. "I have no idea how to answer the question, so here's a wall of text about the question in a vain attempt at partial credit."

Grad student tests are the political news interviews of the scholastic world.

Nope, I'm a permadoc. I was guilty of those offenses, but more so as an undergrad. As a grad student, I realized that you can't bullshit a bullshiter.

So tonight, I was the only one who showed up for no-gi grappling. That was kinda lame, but what wasn't was that I got to roll for an hour straight with my teacher/coach/sensei/whateveryouwannacallhim. :)

It was of course a great lesson in humility, as he controlled me for pretty much the whole time, but it was also very encouraging, as I was able to counter stuff and force him to go to his plan B, then C, and on one occasion to his plan D, and even press my game and force him on the defensive a few times. :ninja:

I'm getting better!!! :minionhappy:

I assume if your instructor was a "her" rather than a "him" you would be posting in the Epic Win thread instead? :D

Does this sound weirdly sexual to anyone else?

No, just me? ... I'll go to my pervert corner.

Bhamv is there with you. Enjoy your grapple time with him.[DOUBLEPOST=1428794004,1428793591][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, i had a cat that went missing for a weekend. She was a wanderer and a survivor so we didn't actually miss her until well into the second day, and only really started worrying by nightfall. but she showed up Monday morning a little ragged and very hungry. We figured she got locked up in someone's garage all weekend. And looking back on it, we really weren't as concerned as we should have been, or maybe as we would have been if she wasn't the sort of cat that can take care of itself.

Still, such a close call.

Glad your cat's back.
